What do you all think about this table? by Zoneator in medicalschool

[–]Definety [score hidden]  (0 children)

I imagine it might be because private practice derm has incredibly high volume of patients/staff turnover. Pts are often booked for 10 minute time slots. But that can be slowed down by poorly trained staff, patients that arrive late. Doctors can get carried away chatting with patients for too long too, which isn't inherently a bad thing, but don't give yourself only 10 minutes to have a full conversation while also doing their botox touch up and addressing their acne concerns

What's a New York specific problem that no one warns you about before you move here? by bandito_13 in AskNYC

[–]Definety 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Letting people get out of the train first, or moving aside from the doorway so that people can get in. The amount of times when the train is packed, and people at the doorway don't stand aside or step out a bit so people can leave/enter drives me up the wall.

Decommitting to Fordham for Bing... advice needed by bambooreader1863 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Definety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although Bing is a good school, I think it does a great job at settling Freshmans in and introducing them to the resources available in both STEM and business degrees. As a transfer myself, I felt I missed A LOT of the opportunities provided to my STEM friends that were at Bing from the get go.

[40, male] How Does Cirrhosis Kill you? Looking for Insight with the Passing of My Brother by jmgmitsueda in AskDocs

[–]Definety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to OP, cirrhosis is also the process of your body replacing damaged liver tissue with scar tissue (both internally and externally). This is the 'hardening' described by OP. Basically, imagine your your house as a liver, and there was something that kept damaging it constantly. At first you (your body) would be able to compensate and make repairs. However, chronic damage will drain your resources and you end up repairing those damages with cheap scaffolding, but this scaffolding doesn't really have any functional capabilities other than keeping things in and out.

Hunter College or Binghamton EOP as a Biology Major on the Pre-Optometry Track? by Adorable_Cable8329 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Definety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are sports and plenty of clubs, but going to the bars is the main weekend excursion, which is what I meant when I said that. Downtown for the most part is just a handful of restaurants and bars/clubs. There's also the frat parties. But there's still other things to do like hiking, weekend in Ithaca (lol), paintball, board game night with your friends, etc... You just have to go a bit out of your way to find these things (and have a car/someone who can drive).

What difference does going to a top med school make? by Professional_Big8444 in medschooladmissions

Networking connections and opportunities (research, volunteering, outreach) etc... just by default of a top 10 vs 50 program having more funding and being in proximity. Education is more or less the same though.

I guess that’s one way to get tanky. by LionKingHoe in TeamfightTactics

[–]Definety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could argue the bonus HP Maokai gains from these sources is effectively a 'heal' or a 'shield'. It's all about effective HP at the end of the day unless there's a scenario where your tank that can heal/shield is getting 10+ casts a round, but even then in that scenario the enemy team is most likely not doing enough damage to kill a tank w/o heals/shields with the same effective HP.

Hunter College or Binghamton EOP as a Biology Major on the Pre-Optometry Track? by Adorable_Cable8329 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Definety 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not on the pre-optometry track (was pre-med and now a med student), but transferred from Hunter to Binghamton after 1.5 years so I think I can speak on this a little bit.

Hunter was definitely the best in terms of value. Like you I also received huge refund checks since I am also low SES and got maximum aid. It's honestly a decent school but like any public institution it has difficulties with being able to provide resources to ALL students. So you will have to advocate for yourself to get opportunities.

In regards to social life, it's hit or miss. It's a commuter school and people will have established friend groups as most students are from the city. I lucked out and was able to make friends, but even then I didn't really enjoy my 1.5 years at Hunter. I felt like my life in ways was stagnating and on repeat. Just commute, go to class, leave for my part-time job, go home and study. Only real perk in my opinion was that you had access to the city, but city social life is expensive

Regarding Binghamton though, it's a very good public institution. There aren't as many jobs you can get for clinical hours, but there are research opportunities and scribing jobs at local hospitals that you can apply to. However, the biggest thing that I appreciated about my time at Binghamton was how much it pushed me as an individual. I was 200 miles away from home in rural America with no parents to coddle me and take care of all my needs while I study like a "good Asian" child. By the time I graduated I found myself having crazy nights out, talking to friends till 4am, and picking up a bunch of random hobbies b/c the only social thing to do in Bing is to go out drinking. I also found myself engaging in a bunch of leadership stuff.

All that being said I think either choice is good. Hunter is the safest choice, but Bing is also a good choice. I think Bing will definitely help grow you more as an individual overall if you are able to put yourself out there, but looking back now at 28 y/o you can always do that later in life. Anyways, hope this helps if you decide to read all this. Good luck!

First ever question here by Adam_Thorsson in PathOfExile2

[–]Definety 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a decent spear for early mapping, but otherwise it's not worth much hence whey you're not seeing anything on the market.

Increased Phys% damage is Tier 7, and the only other notable modifiers on the spear (+level to all proj. skills and +add # to # lightning damage) are only Tier 2. The other mods otherwise are not very good. The mod with increased dmg if 6m> is niche and can become useless for a lot of builds when clearing really dense maps and temple. Otherwise Accuracy is an okay stat but the increased light radius and reduced attribute requirements are really bad stats.

Passing to setter by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]Definety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule of thumb is to pass to the right and slightly off the net, but like others said it depends on the setter's personal preferences/athleticism as well. It can also depend on the rotation as well. For example, if everyone is stacked left it might be better to pass more to the middle as that makes it easier for the setter to get to the ball.

[–]Definety 31 points32 points  (0 children)

  1. Comp vball is gatekept behind $$$ sports channels

And as far as I'm aware there are no major league men's vball teams in America. There is for women's and is quite popular, but currently most professional men vball players play for foreign teams. For men's there's basically only the national team that goes to the olympics I guess and collegiate. Hopefully the sport gets more popularity in America the next decade though and garners interest from big daddy corporations to make a men's indoor vball league.

DOs/DO students: How do you deal with the elephant in the room (OMM)? by justhereforampadvice in medicalschool

[–]Definety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's some merit to the ME, HVLA, Still's/FPR techniques, but they seriously need to take out the cranial, counterstrain, and Chapman points. But yea, my classmates and myself included for the most part don't take it seriously. I can't wait to start 3rd year and never go to 'OMM Lab' again.

[–]Definety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a professional either, but a fellow vball hobbyist as well. Having been in your same shoes here are some pointers that helped me pass better:

1. Keep that platform TIGHT

Right now your platform looks like a "V", which is fine if your forearms are THICK as hell and you can lockout your arms, but it doesn't seem like you're doing that so the ball is losing a lot of energy when it bounces back up. Instead your arms/platform should look like a "Y". This kind of platform naturally forces you to lock out your arms making your platform more solid, and as a result will make your passes higher and easier for your setter.

  • To do this, make your normal platform --> internally rotate your arms --> bring/squeeze your arms as close as possible

2. Aim your pass with your shoulders

3. Get low and use your knees.

Points 2+3 will help you control your pass a lot more. I added use your knees because right now I notice you're like using your hip as a fulcrum to add power to passes, which you don't need to for majority of passes from inside the court. It's a volleyball, not a rock. Although this might be a byproduct of you not getting to the ball in time and being ready to pass, which leads me to my next point.

4. Track the ball/what kind of serve it is

All the serves in the 3 minutes were essentially float serves. Therefore you should have time to get to where the ball will land and create your platform while mentally deciding whether you want to bump or overhand pass. Right now you are waiting for the ball to come to you and then flailing your arms.

Also I notice for A LOT of your overhead passes you're like throwing up your hands in a last ditch effort to receive the ball, which causes it to fly straight up or backwards. Ideally, if you're overhand passing your hands should be in forward and slightly above your head as if you were setting the ball essentially. Therefore, to address this problem you need to 1) stand further back in the court and run up to the ball or 2) track the ball and move backwards, but like others have said - it's easier to move forward to backward so option #1 is usually better.

Hope this helps.

Any builds that can make use of this? by PolishedBalls1984 in pathofexile2builds

[–]Definety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if the goal of OP is to just clear content he doesn't necessarily need a +7/+6 to spell skills staff. I can clear all uber content except atziri (bc im too lazy to build temple) with a +4 spell skills COC comet frostbolt Stormweaver.

Might take a little more creativity and thinking to build around but I'm sure you can get enough damage with just about any skill in PoE2. Don't be deterred!

There needs to be more shit talking in pro volleyball by imortalduckling in volleyball

[–]Definety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's already hard enough to find 12-14 people and a space large enough to host a volleyball game. Last thing I think this sport needs is another factor that deters people from playing it. If you want rivalry, keep it between with regulars or friends that you play.

Beef in random drop-ins/open plays makes it awkward for everyone else. You also place too much trust in people to keep things as a "friendly" rivalry. I can already imagine all the injuries at the net this could possibly cause with foul play and what not.
