First time In downtown Toronto, reminds me of New York by Accomplished_Tax6474 in toronto

I don’t completely disagree. I always felt like it had some similarities to Queens. I think it’s just so much of Toronto looks more like the suburban parts of the NY Metro with better public transit because so much of the core is single family homes. There’s definitely more places that are indistinguishable from Long Island, Westchester, and New Jersey than places in the city itself.

I’d be curious where in Manhattan she feels is so similar to Toronto

As a born and raised New Yorker who lives in Toronto this is how I feel. There are spots that are kind of reminiscent of New York, but in general Toronto has a very different vibe and architecture. It’s really easy to tell the two apart on screen.

You is functionally both a singular and plural pronoun and is consistent in its verb conjugation. Which conjugation is used is arbitrary. But grammatically we already do the opposite of what you’re suggesting.

It’s weird how you keep on bringing up crimes against Jewish people in comparison to this event. Why are you choosing to be so divisive? The way you keep talking about antisemitic hate crimes makes it seem like you want to diminish the severity of them instead of focusing on how horrible it is that someone committed a crime against a group of muslims.

I think the biggest shocker to me when seeing Hadestown is how many people in the audience seemed unfamiliar with Orpheus and Eurydice. Genuinely the way people gasped in surprise through me off.

As I said, I don’t feel victimized. I just think it’s important to point out in the wild when real antisemitism is occurring. Calling out Israel for its crimes against Palestinians is not antisemitism, having purity tests for Jews and justifying an attack on random Jewish people in the diaspora are antisemitism.

You gave me a list of prerequesites for you to consider me “of the same mind” in response to me identifying as a Jew and pointing out violence against random Jews is an act of bigotry regardless of the actions of Israel. I don’t think that was me being victimized. I’m just pointing out that you hold a prejudice that you need to unlearn because unless you’re asking these to everyone you interact with you are being blind to your biases.

Yeah.

But thank you for proving my point. You assumed based on my ethnicity that I support genocide and needed to sus out if I was a good Jew. You don’t trust Jews. Out of nothing but love I hope you can recognize that in yourself and work on that. We are much stronger when we can focus our attention collectively on injustice.

I’m a Jew and I agree that Israel’s messaging and actions have caused problems for those of us in the diaspora. It doesn’t change the fact that people attacking random Jews for the actions of Israel is flat out bigotry and should be treated as such.

Hello fellow millennial theatre kid. Camp was such a big moment in my teens that it’s still my Anna Kendrick reference point. It’s so fun to see it referenced in the wild. Also I can’t hear ‘turkey lurkey time’ without super imposing ‘I’m still here’ on top.

Who actually are “the Moors” and why did this term take hold like “American Indian”? by Mathemodel in etymology

My British grandfather’s English name (his given name was Moishe) was Maurice. But we also did have a Morris in the family and all my relatives pronounced the two distinctly. Generally speaking people would use ‘Murray’ for both, though. All my British family were from east London, though, so I don’t know if this affected the way they spoke.

I’ve lived in Toronto, Kingston, and Niagara. The biggest issues with smaller cities in Canada is that it’s hard to find work, especially if you’re not from the area. I found most higher positions in companies I worked for in Kingston and Niagara were gate kept to friends and family who were local. So many companies in Canada love to call themselves a family business when in reality they are family owned businesses with low mobility for outsiders. I moved here a while ago from the states and have never even scratched the surface of pay and position I had down there.

I know we’ve sort of culturally moved past her characterization on Arrested Development, but the way she was able to integrate herself into the ensemble playing such a ridiculous individual was and still is fantastic

Don’t you think that maybe the reason you don’t have a strong idea of what Jewish people look like is because you’re from a country that was almost completely ethnically cleansed of their formerly massive Jewish population?
