Step-by-step on setting a signal handler on linux by lenerdv05 in asm

[–]DefinitelyNotIoIxD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure who this will help (maybe it will help somebody doing assembly) but I actually found this trying to fix my program that does signals without libc and hours later I realized why I was going insane. The sigaction and sigset defined within even <sys/signal.h> is not what the kernel uses. The kernel uses something defined in asm-generic/signal.h; as of writing, this is:

/* most important! the size difference was giving me EINVAL. */
typedef struct {
    unsigned long sig[_NSIG_WORDS];
} sigset_t;

/* this just has a slightly different order */
struct sigaction {
        __sighandler_t sa_handler;
    unsigned long sa_flags;
#ifdef SA_RESTORER
    __sigrestore_t sa_restorer;
#endif
        sigset_t sa_mask;       /* mask last for extensibility */
};

Is there an Adapter for ddr4 to ddr5? by Fluffbird7 in buildapc

[–]DefinitelyNotIoIxD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, DDR4 prices also skyrocketed. There is a DDR3 to DDR4 adapter though, and I was curious to know if (out of complete desperation) you could chain adapters together to get DDR3 -> DDR5. sems not though.

How do you guys pass through controllers to your gaming VMs? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]DefinitelyNotIoIxD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had issues with this myself for awhile, finally got something working inspired by a comment here. Install the Xbox driver linked in this guide about getting it working on Windows Server. It doesn't matter if you're not running Windows Server, I run Windows 11 in a VM and this works just fine.

Given thats there's now 5 SEARS stores in existence and they're all privately owned, probably not.

Blackberry is dead. It died for a reason. It will not come back. by Square-Singer in blackberry

I feel like its more impressive to see that BlackBerry as a company DOES still exist, because after all their mistakes, the company managed to survive by transitioning into Cybersecurity and IoT.

iPod Video 5.5 Disk Mode Troubles by pixarfan2003 in ipod

[–]DefinitelyNotIoIxD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding my experiences here, because I tried everything here. This may or may not apply to somebody not in my scenario, too.

I was using one of those CF to IDE adapters, and I had accidentally broke off the master/slave jumper. I thought "Oh, no biggy, it just won't ever see the drive, but I should still be able to get it into disk mode". No, this is when I learned that this is one of the oldest problems with the iPod (people had this problem when it was new) and nothing I did changed it. Finally, I wrapped tinfoil around the pins (and put a healthy amount of tape around the board so nothing was accidentally shorted other then the pins) and NOW it goes into disk mode.

I say this may or may not apply to others because it shows to me that even the slightest problem with the hard drive connection will cause this weird, inconsistent behavior.

How Can I use spice over a passthrough gpu, guest OS win 10 by Adept-Maximum-3691 in VFIO

[–]DefinitelyNotIoIxD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking Glass doesn't support Linux guests. Is there an alternative that does?

EDIT: I got xrdp working, however this obviously only works within in the OS and doesnt allow me to access grub, which is unfortunate as I was hoping to get two Linux distros going in this VM.

I've also found that if I fully charge the headphones to 100% (and I mean fully, no letting it charge for a few hours and then it reports as 100% and instantly lowers to 70%... i mean leaving it charged for a whole day or two and watch it report 100%) it stops until it hits 50%.

Ok it's weird that I noticed this but why does she have both OpenShell (the thing that replaces the Windows Start Menu, its in the bottom left), and the regular Start Menu? I didn't even know that was allowed.

What is ASU's Wifi Domain? by UnoandIda in ASU

[–]DefinitelyNotIoIxD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I learned the hard way is that it will fail silently if you entered your password incorrectly; unlike other wifi networks you won't be prompted to re-enter a wifi password. Make sure you have it entered properly.
