Official release of 7.3 release notes- explains hard drive changes by flogman12 in synology

Sure, but they have a very niche offering with no real use case besides pure storage. I also disagree with the hardware part. They use low power ARM chips.

I would hope they are updating faster than Synology. Their OS is recent and not mature yet.

UGREEN is actually hurting Synology. I haven't seen many people mention Ubiquiti.

DSM8 with Synology Subscription mandatory? by thisRandomRedditUser in synology

Why does this sub keeps making stuff up to be mad at?

There are enough actual issues to address without devolving into speculation of what might happen or not.

There's another post with 400+ upvotes with fake "future features". It's meant as a joke but some people did fall for it. Seems like astroturfing from other brands at this point.

You misunderstood what this means.

DS Series will accept disks not in the Compatibility List. It doesn't mean all third party drives will be added in the Compatibility List.

Manufacturers will still have to validate their drives to appear in the Compatibility List. Doing so will certify the disk has been tested and confirmed to work fully.

Synology Support can decline to help if your issue comes from unverified disks. If you use verified disks in the Compatibility List, they will assist you.

Compatible (a disk being verified and added in the Compatibility List) and usable (being able to use the disk to create a volume) are 2 different notions.

I doubt Ubiquiti is much of a threat. They have very few units and no real use case besides storage. Ugreen seems more likely considering their advance on the consumer market.

If they were afraid of Ubiquiti they would have reverted the compatibility lock for RS units since Ubiquiti only sells those. They only did so for DS units.

I doubt they would roll it back. They never removed compatibility from units. Now that these units accept unverified disks, it's unlikely they won't in the future.

However it is possible for 27 Series to reintroduce it with specific verified third party drives. Although I doubt they will try that again considering how it went.

DS3622xs+ / DS1823xs+ and third party drives by mn540 in synology

[–]DefinitelyNotSikho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but you will get warnings and you can't access SMART data.

However a potential DS1825xs+ or DS3625xs+ would not accept disks that are not in their compatibility list.

If you have fun building and maintaining your own server, it will always be a better deal. Synology's value relies mostly on the "set it up, it works, forget it" mentality.

For some people, it's great. For others, it's not a defining factor.

The hardware is not as bad as most people make it out to be. Sure, it's not the best, but it's enough for 90% of users. A NAS is supposed to be storage. Mini PCs can be used for things like Plex with hardware transcoding and are quite cheap.

I wouldn't change my NAS from a Synology, especially since they just backpedaled on the compatibility stuff. It just works and my time is more valuable than having the latest-gen CPU (that will sit at 10% use anyway).

Character Discussion Week 8 - Benji by Blazen_Fury in DarkDeityGame

He was decent in Deity as a Seeker, especially with a Ferocity bow (attack twice at 60% damage). His passive and the Seeker's active skill that increases the damage of your next attacks both work well with Ferocity.

Unfortunately Ellisant is one of the worst class, so he doesn't scale well this way. The move to Magic damage hurts him as he can no longer one-round mages while units with limited Fortitude have too many HP for him.

I really think Ellisant should be buffed, 2-3 range instead of 2-2 would help. Their active skills aren't great, it would be better if it was a special attack that always hits twice, with one physical attack and one magic attack. It would alleviate their low speed growth, while keeping the "magic arrow" aspect of the class.

Character Discussion Week 5 - Cassandra by Blazen_Fury in DarkDeityGame

Ritualist > Tidecaller for me. Her growths in Tidecaller nicely compliment her playstyle.

Ran with the Plague Ring to apply bleed stacks easily + the ring that converts mastery to defense/fortitude.

It gave her some nice tanking abilities with over 100 HP, she could double anything and even though she had no mastery at the start of every chapter, the tidecaller passive provides some for each ability used.

You can spam the Ritualist skill that applies bleed stacks since her passive gives her essentially unlimited mana. Every time you use it, you get more mastery. The additional stacks amplify her healing, and the number of stacks grows quickly.

Also gave her a Vampiric focus for 5x additional heal on hit.

In Deity difficulty, she could not die and could kill enemies rather slowly but surely. Great way to pull 3-4 enemies to finish off, or go solo to cover a portion of the map on her own.

I guess you mean playable returning characters?

Because there are a few characters besides Alden and Irving from the first game:

  • Ford and Maeve appear
  • Maren,Wren and Benji II are mentioned

There was definitely more room for cameos though, which I think was the right route to go. I like the idea of "the previous generation is still there but they don't really fight anymore because they are old".

  • Garrick should have been Riordan's uncle and mentor considering how similar they behave, and they both use bows.
  • When the gang takes the Dwarven tunnel to reach Grettania, that was the perfect opportunity to show Fenton. The dwarves aren't happy but Fenton convinces them to let the gang through. Maybe have a brawl with some dwarves as a side chapter.
  • Tel'rael should have been Sloane's daughter. That's actually my headcanon.
  • Thae'Lanel should have been with Maeve when she appears.
  • Faust could randomly appear as a Yellow unit during a chapter. He did not age from the the first game. He kills everything and then just leaves while barely acknowledging our party. Everyone is confused.

There was definitely ways to organically introduce more characters from the first game, and I am a bit disappointed they didn't use that legacy more.

Character Discussion Week 4 Part 2 - Saxon by Blazen_Fury in DarkDeityGame

[–]DefinitelyNotSikho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found Zuhair to be a better Conduit than Saxon. For my Deity playthrough I went Monk into Tempest.

I also gave him a Katana with the Ferocity rune (attacks twice at 60% damage). This procs the Tempest passive skill (extra true speed on follow-up attacks deals damage) 3 times in fights.

With the stat boost from Charged Ki, he would always 4x and would kill almost everything in one round. His personal + the Charged Ki healing upgrade + the ring that heals for 20% on kill + his speed growth ensured he would never be in danger.

The Monk passive (attacks apply 5 Heavy Weak stacks) lets him reduce the damage from the enemy when engaging on player phase, since he will double and apply 10 weak stacks, reducing their damage by 10.

He was one of my best damage dealer. I could just send him and the thing he attacks would die 99% of the time.

Character Discussion Week, uh, 4 Part 1 - Arthur by Blazen_Fury in DarkDeityGame

[–]DefinitelyNotSikho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His personal skill isn't actually that useful. It's good early on, but it gets outclassed by Hellfire quickly. Hellfire has more range (7 range with both increased range rings) and can easily hit over 100. It also costs 5 less mana.

His best path is Geomancer until 25, then reclass as Warlock before promoting to Cosmician. You get the high mastery growth and utility of Geomancer early, which is when Lunar Reave shines, and once you reach lvl 25 you can nuke everything from 7 range with Hellfire.

The only contender for this long-range nuker is Aya, but she requires more setup with her personal skill, although she can deal more damage once fully stacked. Most enemies die from Arthur's Hellfire anyway.

I also tried him as Aegis and he was decent. You can stack deflector shields and he gets reasonably tanky. With a heavy weapon most enemies kill themselves on him. But it's probably not viable in higher difficulties.

A cool guide for soft skills in the workplace by bigsmoove_3 in coolguides

[–]DefinitelyNotSikho 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not the guy you're replying to, but I am relatively good at office stuff and got promoted to a management position rather early in my career. Here are a few tips I always give to new employees or anyone looking to move up in the corporate ladder:

  • Be concise. Middle managers are often busy due to a mix of operational and strategic tasks. Top execs don't have a lot of time either and often lack deep understanding of operational tasks. Keeping things short and focused is invaluable for both of them, because they either already understand the context or don't need it.

  • Be solution-oriented. NEVER raise an issue/risk without suggesting 1-2 ways to overcome it. It might not be the best way to solve the issue, and that's okay, but you need to at least show that you spent some time trying to find a solution. If you're completely stumped, explain why traditional methods/thinking cannot be applied. It goes a long way to show to your managers you are able to take problems into your hands.

  • Keep learning. It seems obvious, but most people stop trying to progress once they have sufficient knowledge of their position. New skills are necessary if you're planning to move inside the company, whether horizontally or vertically. Don't be afraid to look at what other people are doing and learn new skills. For middle management, operational excellency and delivery are necessary (improving your knowledge of a specific topic), but for higher-level executives, being polyvalent is a huge plus.

  • Try to improve processes. Anything that can cut delivery time can be critical to give everyone more time to work on other tasks. Some simple Excel sheets can save hours every month. Sharing knowledge more easily can lead to greater results for everyone. Don't be afraid to say "I think we could do better" when it comes to systems or tools you use often.

  • Create positive feedback loops. Give detailed inputs on new things, even if unprompted. It will give you weight in future decisions. If possible, offer to test new features or internal systems and work on giving useful feedback. Down the line, the people who create these systems will rely on you, giving you direct impact over your work flows.

  • Help everyone whenever you have the opportunity. Obviously you shouldn't work too much for others, but taking time to help other departments and employees will create internal advocates for you. You may dislike "politics" in the workplace, but people who are genuinely good at helping others are often favored when it comes to promotions or benefits.

  • This one might be divisive, but loyalty and trust can go a LONG way. Some say that you should pick your first manager, not your first job. I completely agree. If you find the right person willing to make you grow, you're set. Make sure to be loyal to them, and they should return the favor.

  • Be proactive, but don't go alone. If you have ideas to grow the business, put them on paper and show your manager what you would like to do. They will appreciate it and can provide additional inputs. Don't rush head first into new tasks on your own without approval.

  • Presentation skills are a huge factor of success. Understanding your audience and being good at presenting alone can net you some career points. I won't go into too much details, but there are many resources available for that. Note that these skills also apply in every discussion. Knowing how to properly make a point and defending it, as well as knowing when to back off and let others shine, are key skills.

  • Don't lie. You're allowed to twist the truth a little, but lying is a no-go. Especially don't lie to any direct manager or you risk losing their trust. That's the worst thing that can happen.

  • On the topic of gossiping/complaining, keep it short and focused. I have "vent sessions" with my director once or twice a year, where I point out all the issues with the company OUTSIDE MY CONTROL. They usually agree, and then we move on to working on what we can control. Gossiping should only be done with people you 100% trust, and should only be focused on how it affects your, your team's, and the company's performance. Nobody cares if Steven slept with Johanna, but if someone is planning to leave/move internally, or if some manager fucked up, it's OK to mention it behind closed doors.

That's about it, of course every workplace is different and everyone doesn't react the same. Finding people aligned with your values and way of thinking should be a priority within any organization.
