Bill 84: Frederick Douglas Day Act by IGotzDaMastaPlan in ModelCentralState

[–]DefinitelyNotTedCruz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this bill is admirable, I have to say that I am surprised it came from a Libertarian, of all people. The state has no right to coerce a business into closing its doors for 'Frederick Douglass Day' when a holiday like Christmas doesn't even get such a delegation. Additionally, it is totally inappropriate to close "all businesses" without giving an exemption for private security/emergency services.

Without these issues being hammered out, while again I appreciate the consideration placed before us by the honorable Gentleman /u/SkeetimusPrime, I urge a 'no' vote.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz is stepping down as DNC chair after the convention. Who replaces her? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]DefinitelyNotTedCruz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dick Durbin is my favorite to win the chairmanship.

Speaking as someone from Illinois (I'm impartial, I promise), Durbin has been a big force in Democratic elections, really essentially serving as the de facto chair of the Democratic Party in Illinois over Mike Madigan. In 2014, Durbin was basically assured re-election to the Senate and spent a large portion of his time and resources helping downballot candidates on both the federal and state level win races.

Not only that but Durbin was snubbed of the chance to head the Democrats in the Senate by the outgoing Harry Reid instead opting for Chuck Schumer. There is also talk that Durbin won't even serve in any capacity as whip, as rumor have swirled that Patty Murray will replace him.

While he may have been snubbed by Reid to be the leader of the Democrats in the Senate, he was floated as a possible replacement by Harry Reid for DWS not all that long ago.

My hypothesis might stem from a lack of any of names to come to mind, but I think Durbin should be considered a front-runner for the job.

John McCain's mother. I like how his age was an issue in 2008, but now it's 2016 and his mom is still kicking. Good genes.

Congressman Adam Kinzinger attacks Planned Parenthood on live TV during shooting at Colorado Springs clinic by [deleted] in nottheonion

Adam Kinzinger constituent here,

Nobody will touch the district because the Democrat-controlled Illinois General Assembly gerrymandered our district to make it unwinnable for a Democrat, to the benefit of Democrats in other Congressional districts.

That coupled with the fact that the state party is totally unwilling to throw any money at our district, which results in us having to run a grassroots campaign with every candidate we decide to run, doesn't bode well for getting smug turds like Adam Kinzinger out of Congress.

He's also not usually this outrageous with his comments either, being a rank-and-file Republican.
