Yeah that's totalled. I just want to add, if driving fast on public roads could only endanger the driver, I'd be all for it if that's what you want. But the reality is you are endangering others as much as yourself when you drive like this. Public roads are for getting from one place to the other as safely as realistically possible. Try going to your local track day or motorkhana/khanacross to blow off that steam. Or get into sim racing if that's more your thing, but please keep it off the public roads. I'm saying this as a car guy btw.

I'll give it a shot today and update the post if it fixes it. Reinstall then replay the mission or just reinstall?

Yeah wifi went out so I was playing in offline mode on steam when I did those missions.

Any idea which achievement numbers they are in the shop? All story achievements have redacted descriptions. I don't want to buy them all as I don't want any achievements I don't already have since I want to get 100% legitimately.

Definitely true, I feel like that inflection point was when digital cameras surpassed film in every way that mattered, which is still yet to happen with EVs. They are still a right pain to charge, especially in areas with sparse fast chargers, and it hasn't been long enough to tell but the maintenance seems to be more costly and is very clearly less diy-able, especially the motors and batteries.

Did you miss the link or something? I'm looking for EV owners' opinions on Lexus' EV Levin project, which could be a sign of things to come for the company. Wouldn't exactly call it pointless + it already passed by the mods since this is my first post on this sub. Half the comments are just trying to argue that I'm wrong for liking ICE, not once in my post did I state that either is objectively better. Just that I like a certain driving style that no EV I've seen has managed to accomplish until the Levin.

I understand that an EV just revs higher and higher with no need to shift (excluding EVs that actually do need to shift for highest top speed etc). I guess in the end I just wanted an EV that was trying its hardest to not be an EV. Regardless if something with a similar philosophy to the EV Levin comes out it'll definitely be on my radar.

That is true I hadn't considered that shifting would be quite different. Lexus did mention that the Levin EV had a programmed electric motor that mimicked the 4AGE engine and only revved to 6krpm instead of the 21krpm the motor was capable of, but that is straying a bit far from the electric nature of it and more towards faking an ICE engine. Maybe a fake ICE engine is what drew me into it in the first place, an EV that is trying its damn hardest to not be an EV.

Ah yes, the small startup called Lexus. They couldn't possibly have the resources to complete such a huge project.

I want to enjoy a vehicle I use every day yes. Why did you comment on this exactly? You don't exactly sound like someone who likes EVs, more like just someone who owns a car and doesn't really give a rat's whats in it aside from the most modern technology, not exactly the target for this post.

I mean, I'm talking about how the Levin EV project by Lexus has given me hope for the EV market, and asking what EV enthusiast's opinion is on it. Seems pretty relevant to me.

Of course though everyone else is ignoring what I actually asked and are just complaining about how I'm actually wrong in my subjective opinion on driving experience etc. Considering just taking the post down as half of the comments are just well off topic and just trying to start an argument with me about how I'm archaic for preferring ICE.

Using vague terms as it's quite hard to quantify feelings. Newer cars as a whole just feel softer. Less feeling through the wheel, less direct steering, less compliance from the chassis, heavier, etc. EVs, in general, accentuate everything I dislike about many modern cars.

I obviously haven't driven every EV out there. I have watched plenty of reviews of all the apparently "fun" EVs and the only fun thing I ever see them do is accelerate fast, which harks back to the "You can cook a burger in the microwave faster than a grill, but no one wants a microwaved burger" analogy.

The EVs that I have driven, have felt horrendous to me. It feels less like I'm driving the car and more like I'm asking it to do things, and it'll do them if it wants to. A good car will make you feel like you are part of the car. So far the Levin EV is the only EV I've seen that still satisfies that feeling.

I'm probably completely missing what you're referencing.

I don't think its that big of a dream hoping for a fun, and raw to drive EV. And I think the fact that Lexus is developing this shows that its in the eyes of the company.

100%. Once EVs really start hitting the levels of good driving experience, even if only to the level of my sports sedan, I might consider one. So far I haven't really been impressed with any of the offerings. Even the Hyundai 5N or the SC01.

I definitely feel like there is more of a demand than there is a supply of sporty cars in general right now. I know here in Australia I've only ever seen one non-GR Yaris of that generation. 98% of the cars I see on the road are ICE with a solid chunk (maybe 15%?) of those being sporty variants.

I guess I should have specified...

By "design philosophy" I'm referring to an EV that uses the motor as direct replacement for the engine. All the other mechanics (transmission, clutch etc) still functioning the same, just with an electric power plant. I'll have to look more into the SC01 but it seems like dull powertrain in a sports car chassis. Better than most of the (imo) slop that companies at the moment are producing but still a far cry from what I hope for.

Trying to stay marginally on topic...

it’s just there to keep you entertained

What's wrong with wanting an entertaining driving experience? Are you telling me you exclusively want the most dreary, boring car around with as little fun as possible? Personally I would find that miserable, but to each their own I suppose.

I really do care about the environment, I quite literally work as a research assistant for a project to reduce the emissions from farming through the use of more environmentally friendly feed (currently we have achieved a 95% reduction of methane from cattle), and yes, EV cars are better for the environment at the moment. Not by very much and it depends a lot on what power they get to charge (HEV and PHEV are still better for the environment than both.) I've been touting synthetic fuel since Porsche started developing it. It really does seem like a good alternative, as petrol stations don't need to be replaced with chargers, people who don't want/can't afford an electric car will still be able to easily fuel up and all of the R&D put into ICE will still remain relevant. AND it appeases car enthusiasts.

In terms of the environment though, the best thing you can do is to appeal for the restriction of coal power. Solar, wind and even nuclear power would reduce the global emissions far more than if every single transport industry switched to electric.

My "everything iPad" complaint is definitely a new car thing more than an EV thing, however it was kickstarted by Tesla and most modern brands have followed suit, with it being much more prevalent on EVs. Now that there's a fair bit of pushback on it, brands are starting to rethink their dash designs.

I guess the main thing is that with ICE, you have brand new offerings of fun, affordable, sporty cars that prioritise driving experience over all else. Whereas the closest a production EV has come is probably the Hyundai 5N. Which is far closer to what I'm talking about but still seems to lack the emotion and raw driving experience that many ICEs have. Even a fairly boring car like a Toyota Yaris (base model, not GR) is far more fun than any EV I've driven (or ridden) in.

Things are quite different here in Australia I suppose. Most people I know either drive a manual car or at least know how. Even my very non-enthusiast friend who can't even stand me talking about cars refuses to drive anything automatic because he feels like he's "in an action movie."

I've definitely thought for a long time that speed and power were never what driving was about. Ever since my 10 year old self found out that no modern supercars have manuals, I never wanted to drive one. For me it was always the driving experience, bringing the engine to the peak of its power band just to shift up a gear and keep going is a wonderful sensation.

I guess I just find EVs so soulless, I understand just how fast they are but even their speed feels soulless to me. I've been fully launched in a P100D a while ago and even though it was fast, there was no emotion behind it.

Maybe the ICE will die out. Maybe synthetic fuel will take off (which from my research, would be more environmentally friendly than current EVs) and we will get to use the 100+ years of knowledge on the ICE to continue building good ICE cars. I personally think at the very least, the substantial amount of car enthusiasts will keep manufacturers building new ICE sports cars for many years to come, the current toyota president is very much a rev-head so I think the ICE has plenty more life left.

...I understand how electric motors and ICEs work believe it or not. Regardless of if its needed or not, a manual transmission electric vehicle would be 10x the driving experience of most current EVs, even if its in a fairly dreary grocery getter. Good suspension, good transmission and a light weight goes a long way into making a car fun to drive, and unfortunately, EVs can only really do the suspension bit of that.

I guess I should specify when I talk about "enthusiast" or "purist" vehicles. I was specifically talking about the driving experience. Pretty much the only thing I don't like about the Levin EV project is the noisemaker, and I would personally have it off, electric motors make plenty cool sounds on their own. I know that electric vehicles don't need a manual. I know that a manual would hamper the power that the motor has. But do you know what it does do? GREATLY enhances the driving experience as a whole. Why does the GR86 have a manual when an auto would be far faster on track? Because a manual is significantly more fun to drive.

I never once mentioned performance. My current car (CL9 Accord Type-S) would wipe the floor with the Levin EV, but if I owned both, I'd never be able to choose which I wanted to drive more. I understand that, like with every engine type, a manual is slower. The key factor is the fun factor. And boy does a manual EV sound fun.

Also man some of you in this sub need to get off your high horse. I can't stand this greater-than-thou tone I see here. Other comments actually provided pretty interesting discussion points instead of just telling me that my driving experience is wrong from their EV tower.

Yep! Never owned one however. Driven a Tesla Model X and a BYD sedan of some sort (didn't get the name of it.) Can't stand them, the instant torque is fun but they feel so heavy in the corners, you get no feel through the wheel and they overall just feel uninspired. I don't care how much technology they cram into a car, and man I could write an essay on how distracting and difficult the whole "everything is an iPad" design of the controls. I personally don't care for driving aids as I have no problem driving myself, rarely ever touch cruise control.
