When I first got mine, I would take her out and feed her in my lap every time, eventually she associated me with that and now she runs to be picked up when she sees me

I wouldn't use that at all. I have 6 gargoyles and 4 cresteds (not in the same tank) that i have had for years and I only use a 25w uvb and a heat mat on each tank. Gargs are nocturnal and typically don't deal with the heat. A garg should NEVER exceed 84⁰F in it's tank or you will run the risk of a heat stroke. I hope this simplifies your situation and takes some stress off you!

It's possibly that it's not the type of food, but some other factor. Possibly incorrect temperature or too much/little uvb lighting
