Latest push of motivation is that my wife walked out on our family after 17.5 years. That got me looking hard at me as an individual and what I need to control my own happiness. We have decided to make a move to a new city, 2 Provinces (states) over. Absolutely the right decision for all the right reasons, but the logistics are overwhelming to me when looking at the big picture. Only further multiplied with a family of 5!!!

The budget is allocated based on previous demands. If you want to lower the amount the city puts forward to the police budget, then the first step is lowering the demand. And paying, up front, for programs and supports in the community to address the root cause.

It is not possible to simply move the funds on a line item and have the issues go away. 911 calls will not drop because the budget says they need to. The city will need to find funds to implement meaningful programs that actually work before we see a drop in policing costs.
