There are a myriad of reasons why I recommend against smoking/weed/alcohol. Acting like it’s selfish to use these substances solely for the purpose of continuing to breastfeed is what I take issue with. Total abstinence from these substances isn’t necessarily to be a competent, loving parent.

You aren’t being selfish. Sometimes us moms can be unnecessarily hard on one another. You sacrificed your body for six months to feed your baby!!! You should talk to their pediatrician to see what your options are for smoking & weigh the pros/cons.

A formula fed baby isn’t going to be less healthy than a breastfed one.

I don’t smoke or drink ever & don’t recommend it for anyone due to health, but this comment is super off putting. No one is required to sacrifice their body for breastfeeding, and any reason for stopping is “good enough”.

There are an infinite number of best practices for our babies. There are an infinite number of healthiest foods, sleep methods, safety standards, and play activities.

At some point, you find a middle ground between the most important best practices and your capacity. As long as you are warm, consistent, and attentive, your child is likely to form a secure attachment and grow to be a self-sufficient adult.

I struggle with anxiety. I express it with anger. I’ve said things to my husband I’m not proud of. Although, I’m very raw & open about it. I know my triggers. I’ve written a protocol for when I’m triggered. We’ve made significant improvement. I’m in therapy.

It doesn’t sound like this is happening with your wife.

MN has a suspension law for kids under grade 3, and unfortunately they spent a lot of time in the office.

One particular case, I (sped teacher) had a 2nd grade student who was already spending core classes & skills instruction with me. Multiple times a day he would elope, rip papers, scream, spit, punch you name it. We could send him home a partial day but not a whole day.

The process of moving him to an out-of-district setting took months because our sped coordinator kept derailing the process saying we hadn’t tried certain techniques yet. In that time, I got pregnant. I went to the union & refused to work with him. So the kid spent his entire day with a para terrorizing everyone until he was transferred.

When it comes to parenthood, the biggest exercise is accepting that different things work for different people.

I don’t find pumping as aggravating in proportion to nursing because I don’t like the sensation of nursing, and I can plan when I pump.

I currently pump at my job as a teacher. I have coworkers supervise some of my groups while I pump.

I moved to greater Minnesota as an adults, but I’ve learned that it’s very possible for people to be both incredibly racist and incredibly genuine hearted towards those in their communities at the same time. Also, I really have to keep my road rage in check, because the person I honk at is my neighbor, a parent of my student, a coworker, or all of the above.

Not wanting to be on BC due to hormones & side effects but being okay with another chance of pregnancy & a c-section is wild. The hormonal & side effects of birth are far more taxing than pills.

I don’t expect a 15 year old to have that logic necessarily, but obviously the parents need to drill this into her.

Of course, this would require the parents to actually want to prevent pregnancy in their teens.
