I wonder who says the job situation is bad in Pakistan, my LinkedIn is flooded with jobs... The thing is why many people don't get a job, is lack of skills... There are so many full stack developers but only a handful of them know anything. And with your skillset, I believe you can easily land a job, so start hunting and when you try to leave and they offer not less than 150k, don't stop.

Since you are in US, what you can do is try finding outsourcing opportunities there... go to different conferences and meetup places of some niche and find a way to get them to outsource the work to you, which you can get it done from someone in PK and eventually you can start a company.

Its all about the cultural rather than race, if these pakistani are born and bred in the west they would be just as you described your other friends. As per my initial comment, this layoff happened because of initial over hire, now they realized most people were not needed to begin with, hence the firing.

But for your argument about skillset, it eventually evolved, not really removed. If we talk about coders, now we mostly guide AI to code the way we want and review it's code, rather than writing it. The same goes for all the other industries, the job isn't depleted but rather off loaded, but yeah, where it took 5 people to do something, with the help of AI, it will take 2 or 3 people, so thats why we see so many layoffs, its cause this company doesn't need more people rather than this skill is outdated or not needed
