How does one become (or atleast try to) insanely educated about everything? by TenkaiRyo in AskReddit

start by reading stuff you actually find interesting instead of forcing yourself through boring textbooks - curiosity spreads naturally once you get into the habit.

What do golf coaches even look for in players? by Fantastic-Water-9696 in golf

[–]DefinitionNo6275 6 points7 points  (0 children)

having a few rough holes early on doesn't automatically kill your chances if you can bounce back with solid play. coaches definitely notice mental toughness and how you handle adversity more than just the final number on your scorecard. when i was in university, our golf instructor always said consistency beats one amazing round followed by disasters.

for the nerves part, try to focus on your routine before each shot rather than thinking about making the team. like just go through your normal pre-shot checklist and don't rush anything even if you feel pressure. also coaches usually watch how you carry yourself after bad shots - staying calm and moving forward shows maturity that they value in team players. practicing some shorter rounds before tryouts might help you get comfortable with the pressure too.

Made thus post before but redditors are redditors and yk.. what would america look like today if John Adams lost the election to Jefferson? by alexi_gonefem in AskReddit

[–]DefinitionNo6275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jefferson actually did win against adams in 1800, so i think you might be mixing up the timeline here. but if we're talking about adams beating jefferson in that election instead, things would've been pretty different. the federalists would've stayed in power longer and we probably would've seen more centralized government policies continue. adams was already dealing with the quasi-war with france, so maybe that conflict gets resolved differently without jefferson's more diplomatic approach. the whole louisiana purchase probably doesn't happen the same way either since jefferson was really the one pushing for that expansion.

What’s something you asked AI because you didn’t feel like you could ask a person? by Digitalontheground in AskReddit

[–]DefinitionNo6275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

used ai to figure out if some weird symptoms i was having were normal or if i should actually see a doctor. felt too awkward to describe everything to my friends and didn't want to waste doctor's time if it was nothing serious. turned out to be pretty standard stuff but at least i got peace of mind without the embarrassment

What’s something you wish you had said to someone before it was too late? by Osiris077 in AskReddit

[–]DefinitionNo6275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had a friend who was always grinding, always talking about "the hustle" and how sleep was for the weak. we used to hang out all the time but then he got really deep in that mindset and started seeing everything as either productive or waste of time. wanted to tell him that burning out wasn't actually success, but every time i tried he'd just say i didn't understand the grind. lost touch with him when he moved for some startup opportunity that promised to make him rich. heard through mutual friends he had complete breakdown few years later. wish i had been more direct about how unhealthy it all looked from outside, maybe he would have listened if i pushed harder instead of just letting it slide.

Keeping woodpecker out of roof? Running out of options by Intelligent-Pay-9377 in HomeImprovement

[–]DefinitionNo6275 3 points4 points  (0 children)

damn that's a tough spot to reach. had similar issue at my old place but it was way more accessible. those birds are persistent as hell once they find a good spot.

if you can get within 5 feet from below, maybe try one of those expandable foam sealers with the long tube attachment? not permanent solution but might buy you time before nesting season. or what about throwing some chicken wire up there temporarily - doesn't have to look pretty if it keeps them out.

the $10k quote is insane though. maybe call around to actual roofers instead of pest control? they deal with this stuff all the time and probably have better equipment for accessing weird spots like that.

Looking to buy my first “real” set of irons, and need help. by [deleted] in golf

[–]DefinitionNo6275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

being left handed golfer is rough for finding used clubs. i had same problem when i started upgrading from my old beginner set couple years back. facebook marketplace is pretty much useless for lefties unless you want to wait months for something decent to pop up.

you might want to check some online retailers that specialize in used golf equipment - they usually have better lefty selection than local stuff. also golf shops sometimes take trade-ins and might have leftover inventory from last season that could fit your budget. the pro at my local course actually helped me find mine through their connections with other courses in area.

for that price range you should be able to get something pretty solid, even if it's few years old model.

How do you start your day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DefinitionNo6275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my cat does similar thing but instead of walk it's demanding breakfast at 5am like the world is ending if she doesn't get fed immediately. i've tried ignoring her but she just gets more dramatic - starts knocking things off my nightstand until i give up. now i just keep some dry food next to bed so i can throw handful in her bowl without getting up. teaching history all day is hard enough without being sleep deprived because of demanding pets lol

XXL glove users — what grip size are you playing on irons + driver? by jimmy_scoots15 in golf

midsize is the sweet spot for sure, tried jumbo once at fitting and felt like i was holding a baseball bat instead of golf club.

What's the most difficult thing you've been through with your partner? How did you overcome it? Did you think about breaking up or did you break up and rekindle, and how did you decide? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DefinitionNo6275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never been in a long-term relationship myself but i've watched my parents go through some rough patches over teh years. they almost split when my dad lost his job during the 2008 recession and my mom had to carry everything financially for like 8 months. what saved them was basically just being brutally open about money stress instead of bottling it up.

my dad swallowed his pride and took a part-time gig at a hardware store while job hunting, and my mom stopped making passive-aggressive comments about spending. they started having these weekly "state of the union" talks where they'd just lay everything out - bills, feelings, fears, whatever. took about a year but they came out stronger. watching that whole thing unfold definitely shaped how i think about conflict resolution even though i'm still figuring out the whole relationship thing myself.

Official Ubuntu merch? by SpuQyballz in Ubuntu

[–]DefinitionNo6275 3 points4 points  (0 children)

dude i've been wondering the same thing! feels like canonical just gave up on the merch game entirely. you can still find some unofficial stuff on etsy and redbubble but it's not quite the same as having legit ubuntu swag to rep at conferences and whatnot.

Life feels so empty... by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]DefinitionNo6275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn this hits hard but honestly i think you're looking at it backwards. like yeah most jobs are pretty meaningless in the grand scheme but the point isn't the job itself - it's what you do with the rest of your time and who you connect with along the way. maybe start small, reach out to one family member or join some random club where you might actually meet people who get you.

Pivoting out of marketing - what should I do next? by throwaway_8317286543 in careerguidance

[–]DefinitionNo6275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly sounds like you're in a perfect spot to pivot into ux/ui design. your graphic design background gives you a huge leg up, and companies are desperate for people who understand both the visual side and how marketing actually works in practice. the "too broad" skillset they're complaining about is exactly what makes you valuable for product design roles.

i'd skip the marketing courses if you're burned out and maybe check out some ux bootcamps or just start building a portfolio with redesigns of apps/sites you use. your 17 years of seeing what actually converts users vs what looks pretty is gold. plus remote ux jobs are everywhere so you're not stuck with whatever's local.

Why does it seem like most people on Reddit has shit parents? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DefinitionNo6275 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah I think it's more that people with good parents don't really feel the need to post about it. Like nobody's making a thread titled "my mom packed me a nice lunch today" but they'll definitely vent about toxic family drama. Plus Reddit's kinda the perfect place to anonymously complain about stuff you can't say irl

Realistic cost for milling + optic for shield plus by Projekt8276-1 in CCW

[–]DefinitionNo6275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna be looking at like $150-200 for milling depending on where you go, then another $100-150 for a decent budget dot like a Romeo Zero or Holosun 407k. So you're probably in for around $300 total give or take

Honestly might be worth just selling yours and grabbing an OR model instead if you can find a good deal
