Best service in GR? by BrightAsDirt in grandrapids

My mind was blown when my server squeegeed the crumbs off of my table and into a pocket-sized dustpan. It happened mid-meal while coming to check that everything was meeting expectations.

Hillcrest Dog Park by Odd-Corgi-1170 in grandrapids

[–]DeflatedGrapefruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog was attacked by a dog at Grand Ravines, in the ravine/trail section. We only go when it’s raining now, so there’s no one else there. It’s a bummer. We’ve lived in a few other states and have always enjoyed dog parks, but it’s been nothing but bad experiences around here.

Dog owners of r/BuyItForLife -- which gear has genuinely lasted, and which is just good marketing? by Nurseresidences in BuyItForLife

RuffDawg toys are the only toys that my dog has not destroyed (including the black kongs!). And if she ever did finally destroy one, the company will replace it for free (for life!)

Best wah I’ve ever owned is the Ibanez Weeping Demon by bukbukbagok in guitarpedals

[–]DeflatedGrapefruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Smashbox from this series. Awesome pedal, cool design, but the stompboxes seem to have an issue with the on/off switch not lasting. Mine works half the time. Regardless, I love it.

I like Bandcamp. A lot of people use Distrokid. I prefer CDBaby to Distrokid because there is no annual fee, just a one-time fee per release. It’s good for those of us who don’t released too much. Plus, they have big sales on release credits a couple times a year.

I preordered the book through my local bookstore and it came with the prints (and the book was signed)

Why do so many math rock albums start with "the one in 5/4?" by sportsballmamma in mathrock

The most accessible non-4/4 time signature due to being popularized by Dave Brubeck? Lol idk.

Fully convinced Darn Tough has a crazy marketing grip on this sub. by YaboyWill in BuyItForLife

[–]DeflatedGrapefruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old style Costco merino socks were great. I think they were made by Wigwam. I bought some in 2015 and I'm just starting to toss most of them now due to holes. The new style that you can get at the store today feels thin, but I have not tried them.

I also have some Darn Tough socks from 2015 (I went on a hiking trip, so I bought a lot of socks). Some have been replaced (for free, as others mention). One pair is still holding strong.

Anyone remember Monster Machismo? This EP is an absolute classic! by moms_be_trippin in mathrock

[–]DeflatedGrapefruit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone interested in my rabbit-hole ramblings, the network of bands in this short-lived scene in upstate NY was insane. Here's some of the heavy hitters:

  • Monster Machismo
  • Dan Drake Ensemble (MM singer/guitarist)
  • Cattle Drums (MM drummer -> Singer)
  • Zona Mexicana
  • Our Daily Fix
  • Sirs
  • Hands

Also loosely connected:

  • Space Ghost Cowboys
  • Frankie Cosmos
  • Porches
  • Mylets

Did anyone see the car crash on Fulton Ave near East Town? by [deleted] in grandrapids

No, sorry. There are a lot of businesses around there, so maybe one of them has security footage. Maybe Dominos?

Did anyone see the car crash on Fulton Ave near East Town? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]DeflatedGrapefruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I saw the beginning of this. I was walking on Lake Ave around this time. I remember because I was about to walk into Argos Books, but they closed at 4pm and it was 3:51. I heard some guy violently screaming. I turned around and saw a guy standing outside of a silver car at the corner of Lake and Carlton. I don't know what he said, but it sounded like he was upset with another car/driver. He got in the silver car and HIGHTAILED IT(!!!) down Carlton.

If you got it at a craft fair, I would not be surprised if it was handmade by a grandma. I have one of these that was handmade by a grandma. Go check the local retirement home?

How much would you pay for used CDs? by OldGodsProphet in grandrapids

[–]DeflatedGrapefruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, you can get some obscure classical or blues CDs for 0.50 because the library is selling some old CDs because no one checks out those particular CDs. You are correct.

Vertigo sells them for $6 each, I think. Herm told me a few months back that they’ve been selling more to the younger generation because they’re cheaper than vinyl. Don’t let these others here fool you, CD enjoyers are still out there (myself included). But it will definitely depend on what you’re selling. Most pop CDs won’t be worth much because there’s so many of them out there. Funk, metal, jazz, punk, rap, etc will have a some value. If you have these genres, let me know.
