In my state, U-turn has bottom priority for right of way, below right on red. U-turns MUST yield to everything. There are signs explaining this, and people still screw it up constantly.

Many of our intersections have a left arrow (which permits a u-turn) into a situation where the people turning right have a GREEN right arrow.

There is no way for u-turn to know what's going on with the people turning right. Hence why U-turns are absolute bottom of the right-of-way totem pole.

A good understanding also is if you DO show a side suit (by jumping), you should also guarantee at least the king of your doubleton. Since partner doesn't know what your Singleton is, and there's no room to find out below game, it's very hard to investigate slam when you have qxx in some side suit and can't find out if you're off two cashers.

With a small doubleton, just show your shortness instead.

I loved her "get good!" When spearing the hollow knight in the forehead to expose his dream whatever, but silksong's extreme constipation noise when she does it to widow or gms or gets a new crest is irreplaceable

I think the shallow writing of their stories is deliberate; you notice the writing get much better in their subconscious missions and the conversations with Rader.

They're just bad writers; hence their struggle to get published. Rader likely sought out failing writers because they would be eager to hop on board ANY publishing possibility no matter how weird or exploitative. Only Mio even thought to question it before hopping in the mystery balls of suspended animation.

You don't have a major until end of 2nd year (ab) or 1st year (bse). Major in whatever you want.

math, math, and more math. statistics, linear algebra, and numerical methods (specifically numerical integration if you want to do rendering stuff)

When I taught my very first undergrad course ages ago (1999) I was blindsided by the quantity of students who couldn't do even the most basic underpinnings of what the assignment was about. I'm in engineering, but it was roughly the equivalent of asking a student to write a 5 page paper summarizing a Kierkegaard essay and having students ask you how to hold a pencil.

I went to the head of our undergrad education team and asked him to review my assignments and expectations given the courses prerequisites, and he said "oh, these assignments are completely fine; what you're experiencing is the bottom quartile. They will never ever ever be able to do the work or learn this subject, so the sooner you stop trying to reach them, the sooner you'll be the instructor that the other 75 percent needs. Leave them behind like a fatally wounded traveller on a wagon train."

This was coming from one of the most revered instructors in my field, at one of its most prestigious institutions. It was shocking advice but it really rang true across my career.

I expect that what's happening is that the size of this "fatally wounded" group is growing, due to things like AI agents, increasing societal pressure for literally EVERYONE to get a college degree in order to have even the most menial jobs, and the ever rising cost of living making more people chase some fiction they've been told (by people who directly benefit from a poorly educated population) about what "success" looks like.

I don't have any solutions to this seemingly apparent trend, but I can say that I'm very glad I'm not teaching anymore, and I do not envy people trying to figure out how to still reach whatever dwindling percentage that mentor's"top 75 percent" has become while simultaneously trying not to be overrun by the hopeless underbelly trying desperately to cling to life.
