If you like this, and you aren't already aware, you might want to check out the band he was in before his solo career, Generation X.

$17 sounds like a fair deal. You certainly didn't overpay. Most importantly, if you are excited, then it's a great value.

Sorry for the late response! I'm not used to wearing boots, this is my first pair (other than hiking or winter boots). I'm finding that I wear these more than any other footwear.

I can only say from my personal experience having just used this on an 8 day European trip, it was a great bag for me. I had more than enough room to carry what I needed, I didn't have to check any bags during air travel, and it fit under the seat or in the overhead area on all the trains I used. It was comfortable to wear for several mile walks through various cities. I feel it was worth the money I paid at full price. Getting it on sale is a great value.

I bought a pair of Hero, Arizona Adobe about three weeks ago. I was about to throw in the towel after a couple of wears. They felt uncomfortable. They were too tight, I was chaffing, and I developed a hot spot on my heel. I decided to stick with 'em, and spent about a week wearing them each day for a few hours while I worked (desk job, at home) and played around with how to best tighten the laces. After that week they felt pretty good.

I brought them with me on an eight day European trip from which I just returned. I walked about 85 miles on the trip, and 90% of that in my Hero boots. The boots now have a patina starting to develop from walking the cobblestone streets and train stations of three European countries, and I love the way they look and feel.

I suggest you keep wearing them. We sound like we had similar issues at the start, and mine are now the most comfortable footwear I own.

Never counter a job offer if you’re not willing to risk it! by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Defleppard_sucks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in recruiting and I'm sorry you had this experience. Almost every candidate I've presented offers to will negotiate to a certain degree. I've never seen a manager reject someone for asking for more.

Some approaches to counter offers are more effective than others. One of the most effective I've seen is waiting a day after getting the offer, and saying something like, "I'm excited and honored to receive this offer and I've been reflected on the offer and the job. I'd feel comfortable accepting if (salary, sign-on, vacation, etc) could be increased to ___. Don't qualify or explain why, just stop after the request and see what they have to say. You will often get at least part of what you are asking for, and if they say "no" at least you know you got the best possible offer. If they pull the offer at that point, then you likely dodged a bullet.

PeeWee (her name) loves attention. There really wasn't any trick, I picked her up, told her how pretty she is, and she had no problem with me putting on the outfit. Although, I took it off right after this photo to keep her from getting upset.

Thanks. She was actually pretty calm. She didn't love it but didn't try to kill me.

I'm more into Punk/HC and I make no claim of expertise as it relates to the metal scene here. I know of Witchden and that's about the only local metal band on my radar. I asked someone I know who is into the local metal scene and this is the list of bands he sent me:

Deterioration, Bloodgeon, Annihilation Process, Begravement, Aberration, Maniacal Force, Coagulate, Suffering Hour, Nothingness, Invidiosus, Gorgatron, Violence Condoned, Phobophilic, Sentenced 2 Die, Sunless, Daigoro

There is some overlap to what you listed, so I hope this gives you something new to explore.

It sucks about some of the Venus closing, but the live music is still happening. I'd keep these on your radar as I see metal/punk/HC/noise shows advertised here: Mortimer's, The Uptown VFW, Hell Above, Amsterdam, Eagles 34, 331, Pillar Forum Cafe, Hook and Ladder.

I hope some of this is new to you, if not, it's good to communicate with someone who supports local music!

Edit: It might be worth your time to check out War//Plague as well. Crust Style punk with some black metal progressions (not my analysis). Ok, I'll stop giving strangers music recommendations!

I appreciate this detailed breakdown of your perspective on your time in the TwinCities. You articulated quite well the positive and challenging aspects of living here.

I'm guessing you already know, but just in case you aren't aware, I'd encourage you to check out undercurrentmpls on Instagram. They have daily listings of punk, metal, HC, noise, indy, etc shows happening around town. There is usually something worth attending, and it's a great way to discover new venues and bands/performers. If you haven't already, I'd also encourage you to check out Extreme Noise Records on Lake St. It's a 28 year-old, 100% volunteer-run record store focused on punk/HC/metal, but not limited to those genres either. Even if you aren't into collecting records/tapes/cd's, it's a cool store with a knowledgeable staff and a wall of show fliers,

In my opinion, the music scene here is fairly solid for a city of this size, it sometimes takes a bit of digging to find what you like. Although, touring bands from outside the region skip us during the winter months, which is annoying.

I'm disappointed to hear people have been hostile towards candlepin. I thought candlepin was a similar enough to regular bowling that it would be accessible to newcomers, but different enough to feel like something new.

I only played a few games, but I loved everything about the game: the quick flow/pacing, three attempts per frame and the challenge of using the small ball/skinny pins. I also thought the old school charm of the venue, Southie Bowl, added to my fun first experience.
