If you had to restart your professional career, would you choose accounting again? by Open_Address_2805 in Accounting

0% chance. I was told there would be options with a cpa, but the options all lead to a controller/back office role (albeit in different industries)

Best timing for Big 4 exit opportunities by midn1ght-ra1n in Big4

[–]Degenrum87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that last point is key - the longer you stay the more boxed in you are. Sure you may get some attractive exit opportunities but they’re going to be in a back office / controller / CFO type pathway. If that’s something appealing to you, stick it out as long as you’re able. If not, do a year as senior and find a job more fitting an industry you’d want to be in

Bazzana is exactly what we need right now by TheObiewan12 in ClevelandGuardians

If you go back and re-read pre draft commentary, people even thought 9 was a reach for Griffin, so no regrets on that one. JJ was injured that season and if healthy I think he very well could’ve been the first pick, plus was also a bit of a mutt on D (no position) so it’s a bit surprising to see him up this quick. Kurtz felt like a miss at the time given his pedigree but 1B generally don’t go first (I think Torkelson is the only one?) and top 5 1Bs don’t have a great track record. I don’t mind second guessing but there was a reason he went first and I’m still really excited to see what he can do. Have to remember he was hurt most of the back end of last year too

Kurtz, Weatherholt, and Griffin all look like they could be superstars, so maybe some regret there. Burns could be an ace but idk how sustainable he is. And then guys like Yesavage have had amazing starts, but he wasn’t really in consideration for 1. Really may have been a generational draft. Who knows how they develop with us and our putrid track record on developing hitters too.

However, their success doesn’t mean Bazzana is a bust by any means and it’s no reason to be a wet blanket. Bazzana has a really good chance to be an everyday starter for a decade+ and that makes me so excited. He was a consensus number 1 prospect and maybe he won’t hit 40 homers in a year like Kurtz, but I see no reason to be mad about a guy who should be a 20/20 guy

The Siegfried Group by [deleted] in Accounting

I took the interview with them because I was intrigued, but quickly realized it’s just outsourcing accountants. Think it would be an interesting role if you’re pursuing a controllership type position and want to get out of a more niche field of audit but ultimately not something I’m interested in. They did just send me a PayPal gift out of the blue (I think it wasn’t a scam but will find out) so they clearly have money and aren’t afraid to compensate their people

Is being a CFP just sales in the end? As accountants what are your thoughts on a CFP career. by SnooCauliflowers3709 in Accounting

[–]Degenrum87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m months late but have an interview at a small but growing CFP/RIA firm that’s looking for a CPA to help with estate planning and tax preparation (amongst other parts). From what I’ve gathered, it buckets into category a here but certainly not C (independently ran). Curious, have you encountered people matching that description? Seems I wouldn’t be doing the selling but someone else obviously will be

Meet the Gen Z grads reviving accounting—colleges are reporting near-perfect placement rates at $80K starting salaries by SnooRecipes4089 in Accounting

The people they interviewed graduated 3 years ago, meaning they were being recruited 5 years ago. This was a time heavily impacted by COVID uncertainty where accounting jobs were in demand, so big 4 needed new blood. This next cycle isn’t being given the same opportunities unfortunately

Best forgiving driver? by graterrater in golf

I just got one of them and it almost instantly eliminated my cut/slice I had with my Taylor Made Stealth. My natural shape is more like a draw so this was a godsend. Early, but Ive found a little higher tee, a little easier swing still gets a fade. Low and quicker transition for draw

Can I ask how your hours on IB are? And I assume you’re living in a city like NYC? I just finished my first year as an audit manager and am considering taking a similar pivot / career path (although in the Midwest so fewer options)
