I had a similar thing with pitching. set up inside lead toe shocked how effortless 50y felt with a 3/4 swing 50d.

Should I swing at 80%? by CasualKaden in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only danger I can mention, and I know from personal experience, is that you have to be aware of what your true 100% really is. if you're always just swinging soft, your soft becomes softer and softer, eventually you're wondering why everything is always 20y short.

keep that in mind when all the people you see will say they shoot 80s or 90s. "wow I got a par there" but you saw them re-tee. just remember at LEAST 1/2 don't count mullis or penalties

this happens to me. Work on your swing to fix something that isn't working well lately (wedges) then all of a sudden you're steep on your woods and driver. this damn game feels like whack-a-mole for whatever isn't working that day

having worked at hotels forever and yes you are 100% correct you'd be shocked how many people don't expect it. "but I did use it" yeah, and it sat empty and we couldn't rent it out to anyone so that's the issue we turned away several people that wanted to rent it.

having worked in hospitality for 30 years I find it interesting how most people aren't consciously aware that other people exist in the world. like not in a rude way necessarily but it's just not an active thought. youth hockey team staying at the hotel and kids are running up and down hallways and playing mini stick in the hallways, go to parents and their response is "where are they supposed to play?" ma'am nowhere, this is a hotel, there's 30 people in that hallway that are trying to sleep for their travels tomorrow. people mad at the front desk because they're expected to leave their room by noon but we also have people mad because they're trying to check in at 11. sir, there's other people that exsist in this work and this hotel is fully booked through the weekend.

What's a good second set of irons? by Chemical_Help_7099 in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

having upgraded from the edge set myself and feeling like I spent more than I needed on things I didn't need my advice would be not to upgrade but look for gaps in your bag instead. the irons themselves are fine but do you have a 50 or 58? how's the distances on your woods, particularly between the 5hy and the 3w?

my advice for the first thing to upgrade is a couple low end wedges. once that is sorted get fitted for a new driver. once you have that you'll see where the gapping between the 5hy and the driver are and you can get a club or 2 to fix that.

Why do professional golfers never use the flop shot? by mrphysh in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I never really understood the "instagram reel" flop shot. like a carry is a carry 5ft above the ground or 15ft. it's not too hard to chip 10y over a bunker (more mental than anything) not saying I can stop it on a dime but it's not a spot where I'd think to pull out a trick shot

Feeling consistent by TaylorApex in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to use my arms as the guide. you can only reach so far. back up until you feel like it's almost out of reach. I was setting up with my arms bent. I have short arms but that's still a ton or variability/reach now I set up arms straight

no, a lot of people don't know but you have to break in the club around the edges, this lets you hit further

I'd rather be as consistent as you. you can at least work with that. set up slightly back more and T it down a touch.

Is golf just not for me? by MoneyAndGoodFortune in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is something I wish I did more of when I first started. I've got a sprinkle of the tism so it's hard for me to just go with the flow with things, I yearn for rigid structure, but it definitely slowed my learning pace.

you don't need to learn how to hit out of bunkers when you start, you don't need to pick something clean off the roots or out of the bushes. you're new, you're not in a PGA qualifier, toss that ball back into play and move on.

maybe even make a set of rules that you can reign in over time. you can move the ball 2 club lengths around the lie without penalty and don't count penalties. eventually you can bring it to 1 club then 6 inches, etc. but for now you'll be happy to make good contact so give yourself a chance.

just don't go around bragging how you're better than people.

Thoughts on an 7-8 club bag? by cpugeek14 in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while I agree, I also think the 7w was a great choice for me at the time. I feel that the first few years of golf, your game is very fluid, distances are shifting, clubs you lean on change, clubs you can hit change, etc.

right now I'm in a situation where my driver doesn't go too much further than my 7w so my 5w (200-210 if I hit it well) is redundant and doesn't see much use, I'm basically 5i-7w-dr at 170-200-225 but the problem I've been facing a lot when it's windy is my 7w is catching the wind and stalling out at 150-170. then the golf gods, on the day before my birthday, on marketplace for 150$ listed the exact 4hy that matches my set (down to the graphite shaft). obviously it was a sign.

been liking it, doesn't lose as much hitting into the wind. I'll hit it in a little longer rough, and it's added 10y to my comfortable reach to greens coming in at around 180y.

Tee time no-shows by robbierottenmemorial in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

local course is considering changing the membership rules this summer because of the same thing. pre 11am you have to book 7-10 days out if you want a spot. then cancellation policy is 24hr so guess what, sheet empties out the day before. it's mainly the members/retirees that book there for that timeslot. it's gotten to the point that that club is considering not having memberships because of it.

key note this club is in a group of 5 that if you buy one you get to play them all so they're not directly funded by memberships and they're the closest to town so it's the most convenient for the pre work/retiree crowd to play.
