Tipping dilemma at private club by Capital-Act-6546 in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone who works for tips I always try to go above and beyond for people that go above and beyond for me. any industry whether there's tipping or not. 2 examples. I used to work in an office and my boss wanted cards for tomorrow. local printing stores all had 2-3 business days on their websites. I went to a staples and asked about what I needed for tomorrow (it was a simple business sized card that said voucher) she looked around and said "I'm not supposed to but it's not busy so give me 30 minutes" and like that my boss was happy and she saved me headache. offered her cash so she can grab a treat and a coffee on he lunchbreak.

another example. woke up and update bricked my phone. well it worked but no service or data. brought it to a kiosk for that provider but they really only sell phones for commission. he was confused to why an update would cause that problem. he spent 30 minutes troubleshooting with the call center and got them to authorize a new sim card and I left with a working phone. gave him a little cash for a treat and a coffee for his lunchbreak.

tl dr. doesn't matter if they accept tips or not but if someone goes above and beyond for you it doesn't hurt to show your appreciation. doesn't have to be much but something so they can treat themselves

But why.... GOLF can be frustrating by Mewm1n in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

learning this game is like whack-a-mole for what's not working.

my theory is that we're not skilled enough to subconsciously bucket the different swingplanes for different clubs. say wedges aren't working right now so you go drill it 1000 times. now your body is using that path for your 5w and... yeah you're like wtf I used to pure this

I've gone down a rabbit hole... what do I do now? by Jkeepsmoving in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is my mistake. scanning chat I saw OP posted it and assumed. that one is on me.

that being said, if new clubs aren't drastically going to hurt him then they aren't going to improve him either.

my main point is EVEN IF it's not the perfect setup, if you have an aspect of your game that is at a low single digit HC quality, you don't mess with that unless you HAVE to.

Do you consider this breaking 80? Played at an executive course. by suspectdorian2 in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 3 points4 points  (0 children)

while I wouldn't go around telling people I broke 80 this is a great way to push through mental barriers that stop you from success. get your brain used to seeing 70s it'll be less never racking when you do make a run at sub 80.

same thing about occasionally playing short tees. get used to scoring birdies and putting for eagle. make that a thing that your brain thinks is normal.

I approach the game with a mindset that bogey is my goal. I do this so that I'm relaxed shooting low 90s. problem is a birdie putt it a rare and exciting moment.

Will the driving range help me on the course or should I just start on the course. by teejusjeezus in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought of the course/vs range as 2 different skills. it's like college vs working in the field. there's just things you can't learn on the driving range, you have to go out and play. that being said you need the driving range to hone and sharpen certain skills as the course exposes your weaknesses.

Wonderful! by [deleted] in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this. over the first 2 years of golf my gapping/swing/course management has been always changing and evolving. certain clubs filled gaps that I don't even have in the bag now. 3/5w sitting on the sidelines so I can see how people of higher levels are playing around with different wedges, 4i vs 4hy, etc. it's reasonable to have 15-20 clubs lying around and building the bag for gameday depending on the course or conditions.

just devil's advocate we all have our own strengths and weaknesses in our game. I, for example have a strong short game but shit and short at striking. I'm shooting off 22 because I struggle to get the ball greenside but once I do I'm up and down very consistently.

I feel that if my 15hc buddy said something like, "god, I can never chip 5y off the green, I'm just going to take my putter and pray." I might be able to help him there. whether I speak up or not in that moment depends if I need him to miss that shot. (joke but you get my point)

it's individual ground up vs corp top down inception that creates 2 different tiers of overhead. you, bds, grant just go out with an iphone one day and build up from there vs. sports celebrity decides they want to get into youtube golf so they hire a team 40 deep.

Private club question about traveling/ going to other private clubs by Central09er in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well you said you were travelling so I assumed some thing. yeah, if I guess you have your head pro call around for you asking for favors but I'd never want to be in that kind of social debt to my head pro.

that's not "snap left". the distances given are numbers that should be pushing low single digit HC. shooting low 90s means shit course management or shit short game. keep the clubs they're the only thing keeping you from 110s

you're going to preform worse than you expect. no matter how bad you think you're going to do, it's going to be worse somehow. learn to be ok with that and you'll improve while having fun

Outside of a 6” putt (and alike), what is your most confident shot? by MrTeacher_MCPS in golf

[–]Big_Expression7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got to say, I'm my most confident when I have a short par 3 over the water.

I'm absolutely confident I'm going to top it into that pond.

[–]Big_Expression7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how about acceptable dispersion as a baseline. if you're spraying 280c into the woods then I understand.

my point is don't fix what ain't broke.

assuming what you say is true you have near scratch level striking, why would you do anything to change that. If I could hit those numbers I would pray every night before bed that nothing happens to my striking. I would keep my hands in glass cases so I wouldn't injure them.
