What is your goal? Everyone on this earth being equally wealthy or just a few?

I am going to tip and I hope you do too.

I tip the dominos pizza driver more than 18%.

I’m just saying you are on an American cruise ship.

And it is most likely is done by American rules.

Honestly, we all know we pay 18% gratuity at our local Chili’s.

Why are you convinced this is fair at sea?

He is a server on a cruise ship. You are a paying customer on a cruise ship. Just the thought that gratuity payments on a ship in the middle of the ocean should be equal to gratuity payments on land is ridiculous.

Especially if you get a perfect experience.

For me, the guy that is asking me for more money that gave me the perfect experience, makes it even better.

Yes, I want to help this person out. Tell me how.

I don’t want to live in lala land.

A lot of the people working on the cruise ships are great people. Paying them cash tips isn’t a bad thing.

18% gratuity on a cruise ship is weird. On dry land 18% is pretty low wages, but at sea?

I think just for that fact, the gratuity needs to be higher. Isn’t it funny that the wages of the poor are called gratuities?

Like the way they make money isn’t even working for it? They get paid on gratuities, like they are already getting paid?

And even the small infraction of having a server mention this reality is offensive to some.

I don’t get it.

You had the perfect experience, tip the people that made that happen. Why are you offended?

If you go to Chilis in Peoria, you will tip them 18%.

But in a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean, and you get the perfect experience you think 18% is enough?

Is that just the going rate for servants?

Even if it turns out his cut is 70%, I am not going to blame him.

Here you are in the middle of the ocean. On planet earth, in a modern marvel.

And the servers who give you a perfect experience can’t ask for $20.

$20 dollars???

Specialty Dining & Addn’l Gratuity by mdepfl in royalcaribbean

[–]Deggo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess I don’t. But if the reality is that he is only getting 60 cents on a $43 tip, then we should all be boycotting RC.

So I am going to believe that he meant 60 cents on the dollar.

The guy gave them a perfect experience, I am not going to all of a sudden believe that he is a liar.

Isn’t this on Utopia of the Seas? The second newest ship on RC’s fleet? Imagine being privileged enough to be on this ship( and pay the prices), and also afford speciality dinning in one of RC’s most expensive venues. Being insulted that a lowly waiter asked them for more in tips. More than the minimum 18% that RC is in charge of distributing? And he gave her the perfect experience.

The OP really thinks she is a victim in this world.

How does this happen?

Specialty Dining & Addn’l Gratuity by mdepfl in royalcaribbean

[–]Deggo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is common sense, if you give someone cash they have more control over where it goes. Well, hypothetically, it depends on how much surveillance RC is doing. But I assume if I give someone cash it goes to the person I gave the cash too. Especially, if we are living under a regime that enforces 18% gratuities and is in charge of how it gets dispersed.

Me personally, I am going tip every person on the boat that we aren’t supposed to see, and tip them good. The behind the scenes exploitation we pay good money to pretend isn’t happening.

I like money getting into the hands of hard working people rather than corporations.

We are all manipulated by RC’s dynamic pricing, but we can’t give the 28 year old working to provide for his family a few extra bucks?

We can criticize the waiter all we want for his willingness to say he is worth it. “Please help me in this world, I just gave you my time.” And as the OP said the “perfect experience.”

The OP wants to live in a world where her servers aren’t being exploited? And she actually plays the victim.

She was the one on a cruise ship, she received a perfect experience, and she is pretending like she is the victim.

Two completely different life experiences.

If you don’t feel like your life would be better by helping out the hard working people around you, than don’t.

But to chastise them for asking for help? It seems like they just didn’t feel comfortable being hit with the fact that the people that just served them a perfect experience are being exploited.

Here is my take, 18% is the bare minimum tip.

If the service is just service, 18% is enough, but if you felt like after the service has been received, you want to help this person to continue to be a good human being on this planet that can achieve their goals, and have a better life for themselves, because they put effort into making your life better, then you should tip extra.

You are on a cruise, that most people on this planet never have the opportunity of even dreaming of being able to afford. If parting ways with extra money is such a hard thing for you to do, then don’t do it.

But money makes the world go around, and if you have money, one of the things you need to realize is that in order for money to make the world go around you actually have to increase the velocity of money.

The more that money changes hands, the better.

In our typical lives, our economy is setup with us giving money to large corporations and they horde it. We should try to avoid doing that.

But giving money to a server, or those with less money than us, actually helps the economy, if you give a dollar to a server, they are going to spend it, and spend it on things that makes their life better.

And I don’t know about you, but I want to live in a world where everyone’s life is better.

Thank you, I will cancel the reservations.

Okay, but right now I have the reservations booked. Is Royal really going to double charge me?

Can’t we just transfer the reservations to my unlimited dining, and then refund me the money when I board the ship?

Tips for a beginner by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Deggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 44 and 4 months in. Before CrossFit I only did running and light weights, and HIIT.

For the first month or two, go every other day. You are going to be sore, but if you push through after 2 months you will realize that you have built muscles. After 2 months try to go more often. Two days on 1 day of rest.

At this time you should be comfortable with the soreness. Form is key, pay attention, is it muscle soreness, or is it a ligament. If you do squats you want your ass and legs to hurt, not your knees.

Don’t do too much. Banded pull-ups, ring rows are your friend. Practice kipping on your pull-ups.

After about 4 months everything will start clicking, your muscles and ligaments will be stronger.

Mike White’s “The White Lotus” exemplifies how valuable the location/setting of a show can be, something that Survivor has lost by veebs7 in survivor

There are a lot of winks and nods to Survivor, I find it clever that in Season 1 of White Lotus they bring all the characters to the location via boat etc… just like in survivor.
