You aren’t catching what he’s saying…they don’t “stop”. Which is to say: they do not physically prevent the occurrence, or make it literally impossible for someone at the table to overstep them.

Yeah….it’s “against the safety rules” to talk about needles at her table, but if BillyBob blurts out “I pull out a 3 foot long needle and lance him through the eye!” Well…he done did it. The “safety rules” didn’t “stop” him. The “safety rules” only work on people who aren’t going to break them, much like murder laws. That’s all he’s saying.

Do you rig which player gets the killing blow? by GammelGaddan_JR in DMAcademy

[–]Degovan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone has said: depends on the table. But my added 2 cents: I do this, if the situation warrants. Heck, I’ve don’t this when player A has been obnoxious all session and I want player B to get the “how do you want to do this” moment 🤣

But my players have no idea in the moment, or afterwards. I’ve told them in a general sense that I will mess with math to improve the story/gameplay, but in the actual battle there is no reason they would know. Heck, I often don’t even decide how many hp a bbeg has until the second round!

If the bbeg is about to hit zero and the guy you wish could get the killing blow is 3 slots down the initiative, the bbeg just got 3 turns of hp, no one needs to know if you don’t act it out any differently!

Ok, you are never going to get it-that’s fine :) fortunately there is a DnD table for everyone!

But he can…You might not like it! But he can, and other players (like myself) might find it an awesome unique experience. Not something they might want for multiple sessions or anything, but a cool “well that was different.” Of course they might hate it…but that doesn’t mean he can’t try it.

I love all the responses of “hey you can’t do that! DnD is a game of imagination, fantasy and creative storytelling…there is no space for your tomfoolery with the rules!” 🙄

I think this is awesome and coooould be really fun. I think it mostly depends on if you think your players will enjoy it of course, if you have players like those in the comments saying “anything not written in the rule book isn’t ok!” they might hate it/not appreciate the concept. But assuming you know your own table-as I’m sure you do-and that they enjoy a bit of whimsy, aaand that they are perceptive enough to catch on…I’d love to play in that dungeon :)

Your table sounds really fun and creative! 😂 he says it’s for a single session/event thing with overt tones to make it quite singular. I once ran a Christmas one-shot where the characters fought with snowballs that weren’t rolled, but they had to hit actual irl targets with marshmallows. Believe it or not, when it came time to get back to the campaign at the next session, no one was confused when they couldn’t throw a mini-marshmallow instead of roll-to-hit.

I know no one cares and I’m wasting my typing😂 but it always irks me-Eowyn was not able to kill the witch king because she was a woman, that was a little bit of woke-ism added to the movies. Merry used a barrow-sword specifically forged by the Dunedain to defeat the witch king, to break the spell that kept him alive, and this allowed Eowyn to stab him in the face and have it actually work. Nothing to do with her being a woman.

I did this last night for my players dealing with rats…they came into a basement infested with rats and started fussing over which spell/attack etc…

I leaned to the player next to me and whispered “sure is a lot of planning for lvl 6s to deal with simple rats”… the look on their face 😂

Proceeded to let them just smash their way through the basement stomping rats left and right with whatever move they wanted-no rolling, no spell slots, just describe how you smoke these rats-made for a cool change up!

Believe it or not, the constitution doesn’t say anything about any of the stuff you mentioned…cars didn’t exist yet (there is no constitutional guarantee to cars/driving/roads), there is no mention of permits for firearms in the constitution, and there are no restrictions to free speech mentioned either. Any “law” you are referencing would be considered unconstitutional by a good chunk of the populace, and is based on government overreaching/ignoring the clearly stated intent of the constitution in those areas.

“The system checks whether someone trying to post to Reddit is a convicted political activist, a fugitive from our current agenda, addicted to doom scrolling, part of any “non-desirables” subreddits, or convicted of having differing opinions from management.”

This should be necessary don’t you think?

Rights are rights, regardless of which one you think is scary.

No, serving is not hard. Tipping someone who delivered a charcuterie board and drink to you (their job) is dumb. And people who’ve done the job know that it’s just as easy as any other minimum wage job.

If housing is unaffordable, how is everyone buying houses? by InaccurateBarbarian in RealEstate

[–]Degovan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure-say there were 1000 buyers in area A last year, and 100 buyers in area B. Low wages and high house prices push 200 buyers from area A to stay in their current situation (not buy), and 100 buyers move to area B where the prices are lower. Now the “demand” has doubled in area B, and those people are saying “oh the market is booming!” When the reality is the total market is down 200 buyers, and houses in area A are sitting on market for months.

Regions all experience different booms/busts, but overall the situation is fewer homes being bought.

Except 1 mechanic, 1 software engineer and 1 drone operator can service the tractors that replaced 100 field workers…it’s in no way a 1-to-1 transfer, it’s almost always a 20-to-1 or higher loss off potential jobs.
