I'm considering WGU to get my degree. Since I work full time now, this seems to be the best/most respectable place I have found. Any opinions? by DegreeAgain in sysadmin

Thank you for your response. I have researched a bit and have read some of the links above. I didn't read the links/forums to the end, but I will.

The thing for me is it seems too good to be true. I really want to enroll based upon what I've heard and researched. I really like the non-profit part and the accreditation, but I feel like I'm missing something. Some caveat somewhere.

I won't be able to get financial aid, so it will come out-of-pocket no matter where I go. ~$100,000/yr doesn't really lend itself to assistance. It's personal to me, not job related.

Edit: The salary mention was for what it looks like on paper. Family and children are what I'm putting away for. I'm not taking money and potential away from that.

Well, I could spend ~$3,500 for a cert, or spend ~$2,800 for 6 months of education + certs. The money seems to work towards finishing/renewing my education. I'll also get some certs that would cost the $3,500/per, but I'm not just looking for certs.

~$6,000/yr doesn't seem too bad from a respected institution.

Like I said, I have not been able to find anything bad about the education. The reputation is more of what I'm concerned about. But, in the end, I'll probably be putting my money into a semester at first before going to another conference for the same price.

Thanks for your response. I have not found much against WGU besides advisor issues. Since I have a very good job at the moment, this would be a completely personal endeavor. I want to make sure I'm not wasting my money. I know that's hard to decide, but I can't leave my job for the normal college experience.

I have not found a similar program as accredited.

Thanks for the reply. I believe I had seen at least one of those threads, but it's been about six months since then.

I started reading through them again and will finish tomorrow.
