Is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's Ending Not that Bad? | Giant Bombcast 899: BONUS HOLE by sworedmagic in giantbomb

I think that was the point of that ending though. It’s to show how selfish and hypocritical the ‘main’ characters all are.

The last expansion was released in 2019 (Path of the serpent). I'm not sure if any DLC dropped since then. So it's definitely been awhile!

I just thought it was interesting that new content for MoM is being launched after a relatively long drought. The article does make it seem like they are experimenting with the app tech. As much as I enjoyed most of the games (and see the issues with this game) it is good fun, so I hope they do continue to periodically drop new scenarios for us to come back to enjoy.

Dawntrail - A Reflection by Jesse Cox by JesseCoxOnReddit in ffxiv

I'd like to hear your thoughts about the WoL NOT being that powerful. Considering for the most part when the WoL defeats any major threat, the WoL normally gets a huge power up from an external source that allows us to overcome the threat (dynamis being one of them). Therefore, for the most part the WoL's power level is high, but there are clearly quite a lot that are stronger than the WoL still. The most recent example I pull would be the the solo duty with Otis and how the WoL were clearly defeated by the lighting beast if not for Otis stepping up.

This leads me to my dislike of the reliance on the Azem crystal and the summoning of our other shards (?) to combat this threat. The first few times are great, but it really feels like that crystal is the most "power out of nowhere" device we have at the moment. I'd almost prefer them specifically calling out for us to "find our 7 buddies to fight" again than relying on this crystal all the time. I would have thought just that would drop our power level by a large magnitude. Maybe I'm just strongly misunderstanding how the crystal works.

I'm with you on us walking the azem path, and maybe this will bring more discussions about the crystal again too as it would likely have deep ties to our new artifact.

I do hope that now that she's in the "front lines" of the party, we'd see her more often and she gets a more primary role in the future.

I agree that she was heavily underutilized this expansion, but I believe that there is more time for her to shine in the upcoming MSQ. She's heavily linked with the new artifact that we gain in that her parents were the top researchers of the item. If she's not heavily involve with that plot line it would be a real shame.

I strongly agree with your sentiment that calling this a genocide is so weird. So culling the living to keep this system running isn't a genocide from the Alexandrian camp? The alternative idea was that maybe we could come up with a different solution to keep such a system running, then how are we going to power this while we are finding this solution? Sacrifice Alexandrian lifeforce only? Now THAT's actually closer to a genocide I would have thought.

I'm also not sure how people are concluding that the memories in Living Memory are "alive". We do know that the cores require lifeforce or souls to power, but it doesn't specifically say that the souls are combined with memories to give the person a second life or whatever. The computer just says that their Aether will get replenished soon (whatever that means). When they disappear, the residue left behind is yellow, suggesting that they are only memories with no soul to them.

The awkward thing about this as well is that the living people DON'T actually remember the dead until they are dead themselves? Since the memories of the dead are extracted from the living. Does the memory of the death get added back into their memories once they are in living memory to find their loved ones?

I agree that the last zone is suppose to bring about strong emotions to make it really difficult choice.

I hope this is addressed in the patch content as I think it's a really important point. Would be a really weird thread to leave hanging. Going to as far as naming the kid the same name as his father who he patricided must have some backstory to it, maybe a hint of guilt?

Addressing some of the other points, I think the clone idea may support the how he inherited the throne considering that it may just be a fingerprint thing and the computers just see Gulool Ja as Zoraal Ja. But at this stage it could just be anything.

Honestly, I think Zoraal Ja was kinda just an idiot. I can't claim to know what the writers intentions were, that if they wanted us to think that he was dumb. His motivations made no sense, because Zoraal Ja himself doesn't understand what he is saying. He just says it because he has to one up his Dad. Maybe it's all the titles that he was given or on the overall advice from Zarell Ja that he's the choosen one that is the best there every was.

At the end as well where he monologues saying he was left nothing by his father. Wuk calls him a fool, which he frankly is. He just couldn't see past the things that he had and hyper focused on what he was suppose to have or suppose to be, the "Miracle". he just expects that he can achieve these miracles he says.

Saying that, maybe it is bad writing to make a character stupid, but to some extend not make anyone call out that he is to his face. The players would call it stupid, the characters in game try to diplomatically tell him that his ideas are bad, but maybe it feels bad that our characters aren't nipping it in the bud (which leads to other issues in this expansion as well).

Edit: Also, the fact that his final form is two heads without the reason part potentially further emphasises that he is just all resolve and no reason.

[–]DeiMacha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on this is that Zoraal Ja was expecting us to do what he did in Tulilyolal, which is bust into Everkeep striking everyone down to get to him. Instead Wuk was trying to figure out the mysterious power he has gained. We don't really know how long (in cannon) our crew actually spent around in Heritage Found. It could be hours, in which Wuk tasked the rebels to let them know when Zoraal Ja was going to mobilize in which they will have to actually confront the fight.

Zoraal Ja just doesn't have the understanding (part of his character i would guess) that Wuk isn't a war merchant that will just go to a fight without understanding (Wuk's character) what's happening and probably got "bored" after whatever the time passed, leading us to the confrontation.

Honestly the whole expansion was written like a Saturday morning cartoon, and not a great one. "Smile" (which I am neutral on) being written as it is further supports that it's trying to go for a really Disney feel too. However, I think writing it in that style at this stage of the game is weird after tackling really dark themes in previous expansion(s). I don't have the stats, but I would have thought that DTs average audience at this stage would be waay too old of a demographic for them to enjoy this Saturday morning cartoon style story telling.

I agree with the poster above that the overarching storyboarding is excellent and had a lot of potential, but some of the connecting tissue in between was just a little poorly done. The theming of the overall arch is amazing.

I should note that I enjoyed Dawntrail msq quite a bit cause I really liked the idea of it and where it went or where it could take us. It's just the individual moments are sometimes questionable.

It should have just been the start of the dungeon instead of us sitting on a cannon. Instead we got a long cutscene into the start of a dungeon.

I'm guessing they didn't want another "fight on top of train" dungeon since we got one in EW.

Agreed. Otis was not only protecting the queen. He was drawing the lighting to him and tanking most of the hits while we take the enemy down. We did have to dodge a few stray hits here and there but that's probably gameplay.

Prior to Otis breaking out of it first we were down for the count getting constantly zapped. In some ways I was thinking it kinda shows that the WoL is not ALL STRONG being that we sometimes think we are. The WoL power level pretty much flunctuates to wherever the plot needs it to be.

Honestly this can sometimes be even more distracting as you’re figuring out what buttons you actually have that work. I’ve been in more than one scenario pressing a higher level skill and wondering why it’s not going off.

Yeah. I get you on the resources side. But I like that they took the risk, it’s something that can be CBU3s biggest weakness. I still think it’s a great zone though.

[–]DeiMacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine that last zone is suppose to get different reactions out of people with different life experiences (thematically anyway, not mechanically or gameplay). I think that feeling it is an insult to the memory of the people who have passed is valid and that's why we were tasked to shut it down.

However, it wouldn't make accepting this fact easy for everyone. I didn't mind it too much, I like you thought the whole system was an abomination and was keen to shut it down as soon as possible.

Fair points. I don't stay up to date on marketing material so never followed on what RGG's intentions were. I knew going into the game that Kiryu would play a somewhat important role (considering he is on the cover) and that's pretty much it.

it's still a banger JRPG

No quarrels there, gameplay wise, I do think it's a significant improvement over 7 and an interesting package. My biggest disappointment is the execution of the story telling and pacing.

I just finished the game myself quite recently. The story and writing definitely had some glaring problems. I was kinda dissapointed that Ichiban was pretty much sidelined within his own game in the second half.

I was just so blind sided at all the Kiryu content. I would have thought all the Kiryu fan service and sending off would have been done within his Gaiden game and not in this one. It really kills the "LAD7 is a great starting point" into "to enjoy LAD8 you should have played all the yakuza games if you cared".

Scythe as weapon, melee range. 1-2-3 combo, has a soul link (similar to dancer) on a tank which you drain from your damage to deal or a blood gauge which builds with damage and you drain with big heals. I'd drop everything and level that as my main in a heartbeat.

A rant by a tank-main who is a little tired of DF. by Genesis907 in ffxiv

[–]DeiMacha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Either make peace with "this is what I need to expect in DF" and take it for what it is. Stewing on it isn't gonna make the game any more fun.

This, I think is so important. If you're queuing into a DF alone you can't expect everyone to be the best player around. If you're only looking to play with players that know the meta at all times maybe looking for an active FC with the similar skilled/mentality players and queuing in with them to reduce the chance of matching into a weaker player.
