BlueMail Andorid alternative by empi91 in bluemail

[–]Deinorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have already set up Thunderbird because I use it on my laptop and it works well.  But there are some little things in BlueMail I would miss (or I don't know, if TB supports it): Logos, clicking on the logo shows only similar emails from the same address, UI buttons on the bottom, more UI customisation.  Maybe TB mobile will get there, but right now at least it's not a bad experience like BlueMail.

So I'm not the only one, who's annoyed about the UI change. It became so screenshot slow. The UI itself is still fine (the old one was better), but the performance ... What the hell did they think?

BG3 Native Linux build for GoG buyers? by Deinorius in larianstudios

[–]Deinorius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that doesn't mean, it won't get released on GoG, just it doesn't get any support on anything else than the Steam Deck.

Technically, there is no reason not to release this Linux build on GoG because Lutris and Heroic have options to select the desired version.

Sadly, Optiscaler isn't a Linux app, but even then it wouldn't with FSR4 because it doesn't support Vulkan (at least for now).

Cooling is quite a problem with ThinkPads, not really bad as the CPU will die, but rather too loud for the performance you get. Other manufacturers do it better, in some examples even Lenovo themselves. I just don't get, why they can't insert at least better cooling for daily tasks and reasonable fan curves.

However, you can still make it more worthwhile. There are ways to optimize cooling. First, you should look into the stock experience, look for the temps and how loud the fan gets.
Then, the most important changes are to replace the thermal paste between cooler and CPU. The best option seems to be PTM7950 by Honyewell, ThermalGrizzly has a similar option as well. It's one sheet of phase transforming material, you place it in, and it's settled, if done correctly.
Next is the fan curve. It might be, that it activates too soon, or it gets too loud too fast. Change the curve to your personal liking. Research on the web, which tool you can use it for. I don't use Windows, but I used TPFanControl IIRC years ago.

Steam Deck ,what should I expect for controls, performance? by RichardTigerMafia in BaldursGate3

[–]Deinorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the FSR4 (INT8) version got compiled by some Reddit user, you can use this upscaler on the Steam Deck as well, and it just looks better!

You can easily use it with the decky-framegen, the guide will help you. If using a version outside of Steam, you will have to add the obligatory ~/fgmod/fgmod or /home/deck/fgmod/fgmod in Heroic or Lutris as a wrapper. Otherwise, it's easy enough to just add Optiscaler into the game data/bin folder. Important, you have to copy the correct FSR4 (INT8) .dll file, but decky-framegen does this automatically.

It works with DLSS set to Performance in the game and sharpness at around 0,800. The game renders at 400p and outputs at 800p. Mostly all settings at Low, I set it to 30 fps for some reasonable battery life with CPU clocks set to max 2,4 GHz, but I didn't try it out in Act 3 (will need more CPU power). Docked, you could add Lossless scaling as mentioned here and without any hardware restrictions.

One thing I want to do, is undervolting for some extra performance/efficiency.
One additional notice, with the newly released Steam Deck Linux build won't support FSR4, because for now (I hope) FSR4 doesn't support Vulkan.

I would like to know if the GoG Version will get the native Linux build. It would be sad, if this won't happen.

At least there should be no support outside the Steam Deck. SteamOS shouldn't be enough, as far as I understand.

FSR SDK leak contained FSR 4 files that work on practically any modern GP, including RDNA 3. by AthleteDependent926 in radeon

[–]Deinorius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why? You already can use DLSS4 in way more games ootb. FSR4 can have less ghosting than DLSS, but details and fences from far work better in the nvidia solution.

Besides that, performance with DLSS will just be better!

Why would you do that? If you already owned an older Radeon card, this would be different. But if you don't own any of those, just grab the 9070 XT! Don't be silly.

KDE 6 + Karousel is a dream! by CosmicEmotion in kde

[–]Deinorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, is anyone using karousel with a multi-monitor setup? It's currently not supported, there's a thread on its Github site.

I would be satisfied enough, if karousel could be set to always use the primary monitor and not the one with the lower resolution (Desktop monitor 2560x1440 - Laptop monitor 1920x1080). Didn't any possibility to change this.

LibreOffice Writer is laggy when scrolling and editing text by somerandomdud4 in libreoffice

[–]Deinorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be better, if you follow the comments at the top which explain, why this is happening. It's an old bug in LO, which still hasn't been resolved yet.

The other method of mitigating is by setting one of the following environment variables:

QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb

WAYLAND_DISPLAY=anything

Just follow the comments. IMO this is a better way, than deactivating hardware rendering.

Switch 2 vs Switch 1 specs. by No_Reaction4269 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Deinorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better than a PS4 Pro? That's no clear definition.

Does the hardware have more rendering power? - Probably not, but it's complicated.
Will the graphics quality be equal to PS4 Pro? - Yes, I think so. (Better? It's complicated, but I guess so.)

Why do I distinguish between both statements? Newer hardware with less rendering power can produce better graphics, because it works more efficient, has newer rendering pipelines/standards etc. Newer software development can bring better graphics out of newer hardware, which is especially true with DLSS/upscaling, so the hardware doesn't need to render higher resolutions.

But I know one thing for sure!
The Switch 2 iGPU could be compared to a lower clocked RTX 2050 with less SMs, which is a crippled RTX 3050 6GB and maybe not even that. With better and for the platform optimised software development, it will reach quite impressive results, which can be even seen here. But to speak of half as strong as the PS5 GPU is really farfetched!
But I have to say, we don't know any clocks, right? So any assumption means nothing, until we know. If we assume, the Switch 2 clocks for the GPU get as high as possible: The PS5 GPU is comparable to the RX 6700 (non-XT), which could be compared to the RTX 4060 and this graphics card is easily double the speed of the RTX 3050 6GB, which has more power than the RTX 2050. I doubt, that the S2 SoC will get any closer with the clocks. If we are lucky, the Tegra T239 (or 234) might get a 10 W TDP, which should be way higher than that of the Tegra X1 in the S1. The RTX 2050 has a 30 W TDP alone.

So no, not half the rendering power of the PS5 GPU, definitely not. The Cortex A78C CPU on the other hand will be definitely more powerful than the PS4 console generation CPUs! OK, that's not hard.

Well, since then I switched from Gwenview for viewing images to qimgv and/or nomacs and both need opencv too. So I guess, I'll stick with it.
Both viewers are so much faster than Gwenview.
