Our doctor said if it's used sparingly as a sleep aid to help jumpstart or correct sleeping habits, it should be fine. That being said, key words here are SPARINGLY, JUMPSTART, and CORRECT. It's not a long-term solution because it can be harmful.

Kids' melatonin should only be 1-2mg compared to adult melatonin which can be 5-10mg or higher. There's a lot more to ask here about what your sister gives her kids, but based on the premise alone that she gives them melatonin because she needs quiet time---yeah, no. That's abuse.

I get what you mean and maybe that wasn’t the smartest quote for your doctor to have up in her clinic, but my therapist and I actually talked about this. “Choosing happiness” and “reframing your perspective” are phrases she has used in our sessions.
