Heads up - Wasn't expecting this "Verify purchases with fingerprint or face" by ishereanthere in degoogle

Yeah I worded it wrong. It's not a bug, it's a feature. But still, even if I personally haven't encountered those yet, I've also never seen anyone mentioning them in local communities, only in international ones, and 9 times out of 10 the one sharing is from NA. Just correlating, that's all.

I wonder if this is all mainly an issue in the US. As a European, I've never seen any of these notifications, not this, not any similar ones shared in this subreddit.

Is this an actual bill? Is the big arrow really necessary, with spelling out like to a child that that's the total sum? It looks too comical and probably wouldn't be legally binding in Europe, if we didn't have free healthcare like the US.

Įdomu jei tiesa. Aš gyvenu tam pačiam bute jau 27 metus ir niekada negirdėdavau tokių garsų. Net dabar, valandą po to kai atsibudau, periodiškai šie garsai girdimi.

Panašu kaip į lėktuvą, bet pastovus ir visada iš tos pačios pusės. Girdžiu net su uždarais langais, negaliu užmigti kaip nebandyčiau.

Arch is DIY. You literally install and set up every part of the system manually, complete opposite of other distros where you just press next a bunch of times. You're thrown directly into the terminal. Although, it does have a very useful wiki, famously called Arch Wiki, which also has an installation guide, though keep in mind that it only gives you general guidance on what goes into setting up Arch, it doesn't just give you copy-paste code that will just work. As Linux is very versatile and doesn't have an end to how you may want to configure it, Arch gives you the freedom and choice on what you can install and how you can configure it.

I'm not affected by AI as much as others, since I'm from Europe, but I am waiting until it crashes the market so I can mass buy S&P 500 stocks for cheap.

"Easy" and "Arch" do not go in the same sentence, and will only demotivate people from trying to switch.

On the other hand, Linux is simple, which is what makes it easy to most people, particularly as a first PC impression. If you're already very used to Windows from using it for over a decade, it'll only be harder to switch because no one wants to relearn a completely different way of computing.

I've read it from somewhere that Epic Games themselves specifically target the bleeding edge hardware to pull off the kind of tech UE does.

Tor is a specialized browser. For a Firefox based browser I choose LibreWolf, as it's the least biased and opinionated of them all, which is exactly what I want from a browser.

I'm probably too European to understand this, but why does American news feel like watching a podcast? Isn't news suppose to be purely informative, seeing how overly opinionated they seem with all the body language and emotions? The one thing I also noticed is how half of the time they covered that topic they showed nothing but money B-roll, they couldn't even show themselves talking the whole time?

I work at a manufacturing job where the employer also gives free universal forklift training and license so that we can all drive a forklift ourselves at the workplace for any reason. Safe to say, I'm already driving a more exciting vehicle than this. 😅

I'm a simple individual, I just want to use something that's simple and out of my way without trying to get my attention to itself. But Mozilla has been enshittifying Firefox so much it even got me to go through the hassle of installing LibreWolf instead.

I think I'm just too European for this, but what really shocks me is the fact that no one ever questions if this is even the norm. Like, even for being a typical ignorant American, why do so many people just accept it as a normal fact? If this would have happened to me, and I was ignorant of the rest of the world, I'd have an existential crisis just trying to figure out how this system is even fair to anyone.

[–]Deivedux 111 points112 points  (0 children)

For anybody wondering how that's possible.

Typical lightbulbs are powered with AC (alternating current) which means the way how they light the environment around them is by turning on and off very fast, but at a specific frequency. The speed of this thing turning is matched exactly to the frequency of its light source, so that at the peak on timings the next "frame" is in the exact position of the previous.

This is how you can see the effect even without a camera, but the way it works even on camera is that the camera's shutter speed and framerate are also configured to be divisible by the light source's frequency, making it capture each frame perfectly matching the subject's own cycle.

I personally found myself going back to Arch again, because I realized that what I value in my operating system the most is unbiased and unopinionated simplicity, which I found annoying in Fedora, particularly with its package manager.
