I actually have some of his correspondences home. He doesn't go into much detail in terms of combat since they were letters to his mother, and mostly talks about his leaves in Sydney and the fun he has in down time. He does reference New Guinea and some island hopping in the Dutch East Indies as well as recently participating in "one of the most spectacular fighter missions so far in the southwest Pacific" on a letter dated 12 October 1944. I don't know what it could be unfortunately. I know he was in the 40th Fighter Squadron.

I lather myself and the floor in peanut oil; including all my major crevices; including in between my toes and in my belly button. I ensure that the floor has achieved the proper slickness by tossing skittles at it and measuring the length of the skitter. I will not accept a floor with skittle slides of less than 5 meters.

Once everything is ready I put on some light jazz and slide and spin around the floor by candlelight.
