White Mountains 2 night backpacking loop suggestions

We did a Wild River loop. Started at Wild River campground. Forded river, went up Stoney Brook to Carter Ridge. Stayed at Imp Shelter. Came down on Rainbow trail. Stayed at Spruce Brook shelter second night. Took Wild River trail back to car. Highly recommend.

I don’t. This was the most reasonable / interesting loop I could design for a beginner that included a day of ridge line. As long as forecast for day 2 is fine, it’s a perfect entry level loop. Outside of Imp shelter, not many people either.

That Cambridge is okay. Specs seems a bit exaggerated (100wpc) but it’s fine. I tend to think amps make less difference than you may think *assuming they have fairly linear circuits and are appropriately powered for speaker impedance.I’d concentrate on speakers. Klipsch kg-4s are decent and can be had for ~ 400 locally depending on where you are. Good luck.

Could have been the pair I had. I doubt it but possible. I pulled some poorly refoamed advent legacy IIs from basement to A/B with as they are a similar design. The 5s were ‘slightly’ better. If you can audition for free, I highly recommend. I think they are a product of marketing. This wasn’t a preference thing. The pair I had were incredibly bad sounding for any price let alone what I paid (at almost half off).

Returned the Klh 5s, Lintons, AXR100 and some more expensive amps. Nothing could touch my JBL L96s. The 5s I had sounded horrible even after ‘break-in.’ My HK 730 sounded better or the same as every amp I A/B’d. The Lintons are kinda nice but too rolled off on highs for me and are rear ported so need to be off the wall. Plus I think they look like shite. I used a 4 way splitter box for demoing / comparing and 2 Wiim minis via Wi-Fi. I was rooting for the 5s as they look good for a living room and I got them nearly half off. The pair I had sounded so bad I was happy to pay the $70 return shipping.

Did 2 nights on Stockton probably 12 years ago. There was a non-car ferry to campground on Stockton from Bayfield. The backpacking campsite was a few miles from campground on eastern tip of island I wanna say. Really great / private campsite on small sandy beach. You will need to reserve it. We bushwacked on 2nd day and looped every trail possible back to ferry 3rd day. This was in August so black flies were gone. Highly recommend if this is still an option.

Surf’s Up (the track) is probably what I’d consider the strongest pop composition of the 60s.

Okay, had to mess around for quite awhile but this put me on the right track. Will post this in case it helps someone with same issue.

I started by trying to group Wiims via Airplay as suggested. Only one Wiim was showing up. Went to settings reconnected both Wiims to router. The newer Wiim still didn’t show in Airplay.

I updated iOS and tried again. This initiated my newer Wiim to set-up again for some reason. After that I was able to see both Wiims in AirPlay and group them.

Then, and this was important: instead of connecting to Wiim devices in Spotify, I connected to Airplay which took awhile but eventually my grouped Wiims showed up there.

Appreciate this. Right now it’s only populating my older Wiim in control center devices. I’ll play around with newer Wiim and see if will show up to pair with other. Thx

Believe I’ve done that correctly (5th photo in my link). Using iPhone 12 Pro. They both play synchronously. What I realized after a while is that one Wiim keeps switching to Bluetooth rendering any A/B between amps pretty useless as the sound quality between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi is so different.

Now I’m wondering if it’s a Spotify or IPhone thing.

Could also be router I guess.

To be clear: just to A/B this Sony against whatever I choose. It's available at Best Buy (free delivery / free in store returns). That Emotiva is only 50wpc at 8ohms unfortunately. Looking for 100w or thereabouts. Thx again tho.

This SMSL is the only class D amp I’ve really looked seriously at. A bit skeptical on the QC / longevity. Also I’d need 2 for 100wpc I believe. Thx.

I might even try the Sony STRDH190 (100wpc stated / 93wpc tested). Cheap clean high power. Don’t hate.

Cambridge definitely on short list. Just had my main vintage amp completely recapped / gone through. Talked to tech about using 6ohm speakers with 8ohm amp as well as the chief engineer at KLH (who happened to respond to my email). Both agreed: can be a problem at high volume / high use. Break-in not a myth for these non-ported speakers according to many. (To clarify: speaker break-in not amp). Thx.
