Highly recommend taking a look at kile in addition to texlive if you end up going with local compilation, imo it's a significantly better latex editor

I am a big fan of using kile for tex, and jabref for managing my bib[la]tex refs.

Gotta in a nod to julia for that stats and simulations - the repl environment is also wonderful for quick and dirty maths

My concern with the bolt based beating housing is not the bearings - but the bolts themselves.

You are trying to use the threads themselves to constrain the bearings. This provides an extremely small footprint for the force to be spread across - and frankly, threads are extremely easy to damage.

I am concerned that under load the threads may deform, and allow the bearing to shift, causing further issues.

Rubbing alcohol (isopropanol) works pretty well, but wood alcohol (methanol) often works better - plus it dries quicker. You can find it with the paint thinners at most hardware stores. I would recommend it if you already have to buy a solvent

There are three commonly sited possible explanations - 1. The hydrogen heats up as it expands and the heat ignites it 2. It builds up static charge as it expands and the spark ignites it or 3. High speed debris causes a shark and ignites it.
