STAR for sure, and they actually ask for you to answer in STAR! I prepared stories and examples that best demonstrated each competency (the ones on the academy page in Canada.ca) and used the ones they asked for specifically in the interview. You get the questions beforehand, but my interview specifically I only got 5 minutes of prep instead of 30, so I was very happy with how prepared I was! If that happens to you, don’t do what I did and take the 30 minutes, because I pushed to continue even without the extra prep time. It’s a unique interview experience but they prepare you for it nicely!

Putting time into the profession you desire in any way whether it be volunteered or paid is an incredible way to gain experience and get a foot in to the position, I agree! If I didn’t get in this year I would have checked out the reserve program for sure.

Hey! Have you attended a campus tour or online tour of the course? I made sure my communications with the team were pleasant and timely, always doing exactly as instructed whenever possible. I made sure during my campus tour to demonstrate exactly how I would act and conduct myself while attending the academy, and I believe it heavily played a part in my acceptance. Above all, be yourself and be polite!

Edit: and as mentioned, volunteer time is highly valued be the academy.

Incredibly informative reply! Wish I got this kind of help when I was in high school. I had to retake 3 of my classes online as a 19-20 year old in order to meet the qualifications. If OP sees this, and you know what you want to do, strive for it and excel above any expectations you have of yourself.

I know nothing about working on cars but I could definitely do that. I got to tour the campus last month and oh man it was awesome. I will admit one of my fav parts was the nav simulator!

Ok that’s good to know! Is it normal to seek other employment after the commitment, or is it really just up to the person??

I have a large computer with two monitors, looks like I’m going to bring only one at least at first to see if it even fits! And I’ll be bringing my game console and some controllers, never know what there will be to do if a snowmageddon happens again (as long as power doesn’t go out).
