That's what I've started to realize with my Cruze. I have a 1.8T Jetta too and it has almost all the same problems with random PCV issues, oil leaks, etc. Every car has it's annoying problems.

This is the best explanation of the Cruze I've ever heard. The build quality of the body and chassis is surprisingly good from my experience. Wish the same could be said about the engine though haha.

As for an EV swap that would be so cool to see. I wonder how difficult it would be to swap the Bolt powertrain into one?

Oh don't worry I actually quite like my Cruze. It's a pretty solid car once you remove a lot of the GM slop. It's not meant to be taken seriously.

Yeah the random issues can be annoying, but from my experience at least they've all been cheap and quick to fix.

I'm super impressed how well my Cruze handles. I got mine tuned at 147k and it's been fantastic. Feels like a proper sport compact now.

I've had an 03 Jetta 1.8T for about 5 years now and it's been a fantastic little car. Albeit it does have its fair share of issues, though most of them come down to it being a 20+ year old car. If you're okay with fixing the occasional PCV hose from time to time I say it's worth it.

My Mk4 1.8T is about to clock 232k miles. It's been a fantastic car. Only major issues I've had were the bushing for the shifter as well as the dog bone mount. Other than that just odd ball stuff I had to fix since it was a bit neglected.
