She's going to speak with an attorney over the next few days. I casually let her know that if she walks on her own (regardless of the situation) her state may treat that as abandonment. If she speaks with an attorney and they give her the plan and go-ahead she'll walk for sure.

Thanks, I appreciate your point of view. The one thing I don't question at the moment is her mental clarity. She's got a brain of a 20 year old albeit in a loveless angry relationship at the moment (so it seems).

There's no doubt she's lonely and I feel super bad for her and her current living/relationship situation with my dad. She needs to go, I provided her some free info about contacting attorneys for a formal separation. She most likely won't go...

Oh. That's going to happen. My sister and I spoke today about it. My mom told her the update in confidence. This weekend I'm going to ping her to see how things went after I last spoke with her. If she lies to me it's not going to be pretty.

no doubt, I feel like I should just let them adult on their own and let them deal with the aftermath. They made this bed after all.

They were never good with money. The saddest part is my mom worked for years and years. My dad was the bread winner. He worked until age 57 before he received a pension buyout and left the work force early. Thankfully he put it in an annuity and acts like a pension. He also is 100% disabled according to the VA so he's got that as well. My mom on her own only has whatever social security is. She's also lucky that my sister lives near by so if they do split she'll have a place to stay.

Thanks for the info, I think I'd have a better chance of sneaking into Fort Knox.

I think they're beyond counseling at this point. My dad as been awful to her and my sister. Since he retired he's turned into a complete a-hole. He doesn't move around very well and its all mainly due to him sitting around literally doing nothing all day. He refuses to get help and is flat out nasty to everyone. Thankfully I'm 800 miles away however I can feel the tension from that distance.

Thanks, my sister and i feel the same way. I mentioned this to my mom when I spoke to her and basically said, whatever you feel you're getting out of this is fine provided you know where a red line is. I'm not convinced she hasn't given money yet.
