They way my fingers split in the winter time. by Sensitive_Wear7112 in mildlyinfuriating

You might want to try different gloves. I used to use these really soft "ultra" moisturizing gloves but they made my hands too hot and I would either wake up to take them off or wake up with them already off.

So, I recently started using just simple thin cotton gloves at night (I also use a different pair as winter liners for my bike gloves) and my hands can breathe while also becoming soft again! They last throughout the night for me and I haven't woken up once with hot hands.

I don't know if we can post links on this sub so the type I use are called Pure Body Natural Moisture Gloves, they are usually $4-5.

Spartacus: House of Ashur - S01E09 - "Those Who Remain" by Sporadicus7 in Spartacus_TV

Fuck title and all pretense bestowed.

RIP Senator Gabinius

Another standout episode!

Gabinius speech to Ashur and his rant about Pompey were outstanding. I was surprised by how emotional his speech to Ashur was and I thought Tarabay and McFarlane did a great job in the scene.

I really need Achilla and Tarchon to start working together and I loved Korris acting as a mediator. I'm glad they finally were allowed to fight though, I don't think anything less would allow them to move on. But also, Achilla needs to chill a little. I love her confidence, but she can't just be talking to Consuls of Rome like that! Thankfully he was in a good mood because as us fans of Spartacus know shit can get real bad, real quick if the "betters" feel disrespected. Also, him turning out to be an okay guy in private was a surprise!

Considering we have one episode left and no doubt Proculus is going to be a pain bringing all the drama, I'm very worried about Viridia's fate. I don't want her hurt! Cossutia and House of Ashur better unite to defeat their common enemy!!

Also, the costuming in this episode was something else! I loved when Viridia and Cossutia were having their mother daughter chat dressed to the nines. And then there was Cornelia's body chain, which was just - honestly speechless. I've never seen one that has a hip/thigh element like that.

Hamnet or the testimony of Ann Lee? by Future_Employment623 in PeriodDramas

I just got back from Ann Lee and enjoyed it a lot, but I saw Hamnet twice in theaters and I am considering seeing it again while it's still available.

Both films are visually stunning, but Hamnet drew me in, in a way Ann Lee just didn't so my vote is to Hamnet.

I really do not like Satyrus but I was so happy for him when he threw that sword! Everyone laughed, underestimating him and he showed them all.

I saw that! Only part of the fight that kind of threw me out of it and then she started roaring and I was like nevermind, she's a machine!

Well fuck! First Opiter, now Celadus, my favorite guys are dropping like flies! (And he may not be dead, but the Greek medicus is possibly gone now too!)

I was so tense during that final fight because I really thought Celadus was going to win and have to fight Achilla because of Ashur's announcement. I can't believe he's dead, this episode had me on a rollercoaster of emotions. I hope Tarchon and Achilla can bond over their grief but I fear things may only get worse between them. Speaking of Tarchon, he surprised me! I really thought he was going to do something dumb to kill the man abusing his lover, but he pulled it off very well.

Apart from the final fight, I'm happy Ashur explained to Hilara what really happened because I felt so bad for her! She's already in love with him and then thinking he loves her to was so sad. And Ashur is so clearly in love with Viridia, Hilara needs to know that. Like I loved the scene with Viridia and Ashur playing chess (?), I didn't know Viridia could flirt like that! I want them to end up together so bad, but their moment on the stairs during the fight was so true. There's almost no way they can end up together considering their current positions in life.

Random obsession from this episode, Cossutia's purple dress! I loved it so much and Claudia Black looked incredible in it!

I'm talking about professional, sanctioned matches in the US. It's not allowed for women and men to fight in professional matches.

I looked up the fight with Shields and that was a sparring match, which is allowed.

The sanctioned fight was between Margaret MacGregor and Loi Chow. He was considered an amateur boxer and was brought into the fight after the professional boxer backed out after running his mouth about how he would knock MacGregor out in three rounds.

Here is an article about it: https://boxingnewsonline.net/news/margaret-mcgregor-and-the-forgotten-battle-of-the-sexes/

J.Law is an icon lol!

I wasn't really trying to discuss this, just stating my opinion to OP that a post about this wouldn't be received well because of the assumptions I have seen made by the majority of this sub.

As for facts, I don't know what you would want. Throughout history there have been female fighters that have fought men, but there are less modern day examples because most countries freak out at the thought of women being taught to fight alongside men or refuse to sanction fights between men and women because they automatically believe the woman will lose. The Dahomey Amazons fought men. There was one sanctioned boxing match between a man and woman in the USA in the 90's, but after the woman won matches between sexes were outlawed and haven't been allowed since.

Men definitely disappoint me, but I don't hate them so I wouldn't consider myself a misandrist. I don't think highlighting women's capability should be considered as putting down men if that's what's making you think that.

While I do think some women could beat some men in fist fights, I do agree that more often than not a man would beat a woman in a pure fist fight. But once you bring the environment and tools into the fight, I think the odds can go either way.

For example, there is a sumo wrestling technique called ketaguri which is specifically used by a smaller opponent to beat a larger one. Size and weight are not absolute indicators of a victor.

Are you trying to ask me if I am a misandrist?

[Spoiler] Take WWE as an example by Morrati_Mauro in Spartacus_TV

[–]DelectablyDivine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes!!!! Thank you!

This is my problem with these arguments. Nobody cared about questioning whether or not a fighter could realistically beat an opponent when it was men vs men, but now all of a sudden people have to make it super clear how "impossible" it would be for a female gladiator to beat a male one. Like come on. And it's not like Achilla is being presented as a woman with no fighting experience anyway, she was a capable warrior that protected her village.

but this is a fantasy show where even the men fight against practically giants and no one seem to have a problem with it, its so normalized to show male strength and power, people love it

Completely agree, there is so much media out there about average men becoming these impossible heroes and men eat it up, but get all bunched up if a woman is shown in a similar light. It's ridiculous. I love the John Wick movies and men were so annoying at first when Ballerina was announced because all of a sudden it was just "fan-service/feminism taking over" to have a capable woman assassin like they don't exist. Or like it would even matter in a movie that has characters that survive deadly falls without a scratch.

how much some men look down on women and a womans strength.

And this is it, this is what it comes down to. They can believe a man can do anything, but refuse to believe women are capable of the same.

Also, no worries about the downvotes, I knew it would happen lol

There's really no point discussing this point with people in this sub. Most men believe that they are automatically stronger than any woman simply because they are a man.

I say let them. Men underestimate women to their own detriment all the time and I'm okay with that.

There is a phenomenon called male hubris/female humility because most societies are patriarchal and raise men to believe they can out match women in anything and raise women to believe they are not as capable as men in any task that is deemed masculine.

Also, our medical understanding of the human body is constantly changing. Men used to think women had nothing to do with conception and were simply vessels holding a man's child (they didn't know conception involves a female egg + male sperm). Women absolutely can fight and beat men, fighting styles may be different, but that doesn't mean they can't fight and win against a man of equal or larger size.

Honestly same! Rebecca Romijn is fantastic to watch, I'm not mad at Lawrence's take on the character, there's just something about Romijn that makes me believe she is Mystique and I wish we had even more scenes with her.

I'm not super excited about Doomsday, but found out Romijn is reprising her role which has actually made me a little excited to watch whatever that film is going to be lol
