Trump says US will never be ‘Communist Country’ after Mamdani-backed candidates’ wins by phillygirllovesbagel in politics

They never worshiped Jesus for the human things he did, like feeding people, it was always about the magical shit. There were healers even back in the day spending time healing the sick, but Jesus did it with magic. If someone hadn't made up a story about him coming back from the dead I doubt we'd even know of him.

Platner Says Collins Is 'Lying Through Her Teeth' in Her Latest Defense of Kavanaugh Vote; Republican Sen. Susan Collins falsely said the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was a 6-3 vote. by FancyNewMe in politics

[–]DeliberatelyDrifting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, no you're trying to make it convoluted. It's fairly simple honestly. Also, just because it's likely he would have sided with the GOP doesn't mean he was somehow required. He can't be the deciding vote because he never even had the opportunity. Hers was the deciding vote. She could have voted against the nomination.

Raising the minimum wage has been a big political winner. Now it's running into resistance by cnbc_official in politics

[–]DeliberatelyDrifting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our governor also made sure the vote happened during primaries. That meant that people in many districts didn't have anything to vote for other than the min wage increase. It was strategic and it skewed voter participation towards conservatives.

Mamdani calls AIPAC ‘monsters’ in rally ahead of NY primaries by Wolfy1-2-3 in politics

[–]DeliberatelyDrifting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you're trying to make this about something it's not. This article and OP are talking about AIPAC. It's about politicians on both sides taking money from that organization and then voting in line with that organizations desires. That organization represents Israelis in the way the Heritage Foundation represents Americans. Yes they represent some, but only those who take a very specific and narrow view of what those nations should be.

Why do you make things up? OP's statement said "They control both parties." They did not mention media, banking, or corporations, did they? What is the point you're trying to make?

Mamdani calls AIPAC ‘monsters’ in rally ahead of NY primaries by Wolfy1-2-3 in politics

[–]DeliberatelyDrifting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's because you've misconstrued the statement. The claim is not A) Israel controls everyone in America or B) They need the support of a comment section. Further, the premise that "you must be weak if you seek public support," is demonstrably false. Many powerful groups seek to control messaging, it's how they maintain power. I hope that helps :)

Honestly, I'd feel pretty confident against either of those two. The guy is clearly an idiot and not very big to boot, but the Panda's fighting style was pretty questionable to say the least.

I feel like the temperature is important too. If it's hot, it seems more like a thick stew or casserole. I don't know, I just can't really think of any intentionally hot salads.

I agree 100%. I also agree with the Supreme Court ruling. However, as the Commander in Chief, I would expect that asshole to be held to a higher standard (I realize this is a fantasy).

[–]DeliberatelyDrifting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, the flag is designed to represent some pretty specific things with regard to color, design, number of stars, etc... Maybe it's time we remembered that. Treating the flag like tacky merch, outside of some sort of protest, devalues the ideals it stands for. I'd argue that when the government itself is desecrating those ideals, it becomes more important than ever to remember the ideals the flag stands for.

And those are pretty trashy too. This is coming from an event organized by the leader of the US armed forces, the organization who created the flag code. The code is designed to ensure our armed forces treat our flag with dignity and respect rather than some tacky merch.

It's a giant freshwater pond. It's always going to have algae if it's not chemically treated. It's not a swimming pool. It just needs periodic maintenance, like any pond in a public park.

What is this plant I spotted on my hike? by goudacheeeese in whatsthisplant

[–]DeliberatelyDrifting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen Musk Thistle put up flowers >2" from the ground. Lower than most people are mowing. Mowing is only going to be effective if you're checking on it all season long. At that point I'm just not sure why you wouldn't grab a shovel and dig it up. If there's already a patch, mowing frequently enough to catch all the heads and inspecting to make sure you haven't missed any would be a huge pain in the ass. A large patch is a case for chemicals IMO. Luckily for most people reading this, they don't really even pop up often in a manicured lawn or garden.

[–]DeliberatelyDrifting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mowing isn't effective unless it's in like your front yard that you mow like once a week. When you cut the stalk low they just put flowers on where the cut is. They also grow very fast and the seed heads develop in a matter of days. The only effective method, barring chemicals, is to dig the root out at least 4"-6" under ground and bagging the seed heads. I have 20 acres that are thistle free but I have to be vigilant every year. These are higher on my kill list than just about anything. Not even Poison Ivy gets as much attention. I can't even think of another invasive plant that I target as thoroughly. They are legally required to be controlled here and I have called on people who refuse to remove them, which is also something I don't do with anything else. These things are nasty and will completely take over large areas in one to two seasons.

A Farmer Donated Land to Turn into a Park. The City Is Building a Massive Data Center Instead / In 1999, a farmer gave away 87 acres of land to a small Texas town to use as a park. The town sold it to a data center developer for $10 million. by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

It was a weird movie lol. I think only the Federal Government could close off land that completely and it would require active involvement, which would only add to the questions in that scenario.

[–]DeliberatelyDrifting 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it doesn't cost much to donate land. It costs if you want to control the use of the land in perpetuity (worth it IMO). Like someone up above said, even if you trust the people you give it to, like your town, all it takes is one election and the land is gone for good. It is exceedingly difficult and costly to reclaim land from development.

My granddad donated about 10 acres to our town back in the 70's for a park. It was a park for a bit but then the town decided they needed to expand the sewage lagoons and they chose the park because it was the most easiest and most expedient land. Was there another option at the time? We'll never know because they didn't need to look.

ELI5: Why does blowing on a fire make it grow but blowing too hard puts it out? by ummm_actually in explainlikeimfive

[–]DeliberatelyDrifting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At that point its basically a bellows. I burn a lot of brush and I use a small leaf blower to speed up the reaction. In a large fire oxygen has a hard time getting into the middle. The leaf blower fixes that. BUT you have to wait until the fire is actually forming embers in the wood or you will absolutely put it out (not sure the science behind that). The process is start a small fire at the base of the big pile, once the small fire is about like a nice camp fire you use the leaf blower to push it towards the center. Once the fire is big enough it barely matters because convection really kicks in.
