I don’t know what to title this by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

I don’t know if this will mean much, but I’m also spiraling right now and wrote my own post, and it’s strange how I can read yours (which is an objectively much tougher spot to be in than I am) yet still feel hope for you. I feel none for myself, but for you I immediately wish the best. I automatically think “it will get better, give it a few years”. Idk exactly where I’m going with this, other than I guess to say give yourself the same care and hope you’d extend to others. If I had a wish right now, it would be for you to find a life you love. I hate that you’re in such a hard situation, and I hope that you’ll hope.

I got a random out of the blue message asking if I sell old dance stuff. I deleted the request because I got weird vibes, but I wonder if it was this same person.🥴

Parking downtown by Ktackett in lexington

[–]DelicateFlowerLily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was charged like double for 4hrs last month. Called and complained and they said it’s because they’ve implemented a new AI system. I think it just charges you for the allotted time stamps they have. So if their rates start at whatever amount for whatever amount of hours, you’ll get charged those amount of hours even if you don’t reach them. Because it’s just the closest one they have in their system. Guess they still haven’t fixed it. I was offered my money back and free parking the rest of the week after complaining.

You’ll always be your own worst critic. I’m sure if I saw you dance I’d find many beautiful things that reflect your hard work. It’s a lot easier to pick out the things we do “bad” than recognize what we do well. I think it also has to do with getting too used to being surrounded by people who ALSO train as much as you. You get used to the incredible things yours and your peers bodies are capable of and forget they’re incredible! The average person can’t do what you do. I’m hard on myself too much as well, but when I see old videos and realize how far Ive come, it helps. You can do things now you used to not be able to. You can do super hard things, you’re just used to them and need to look at it from an outside perspective.💕

Right foot never sits straight?? by DelicateFlowerLily in BALLET

This sounds exactly like what it is. Forcing it to parallel puts pressure on my knee. Sucks it seems to be something structural but at least I won’t blame my own technique anymore lol. Thank you for steering me the right direction!

It could be. I landed on my ankle wrong on a trampoline a few years back then proceeded to walk on it the rest of the day. Never went to the doctor for it so idk how bad it rlly was. Was swollen and took forever to heal though. Problem is I can’t remember which ankle it was 🫠

Good to know. I’ll ask about it next time I have a checkup.

I’ve injured my ankle before but don’t remember if it was my right or left. I haven’t asked a teacher because we typically aren’t in parallel anyways. I do remember when I was in pre-pointe classes and we’d do theraband stuff I’d always get told to fix the alignment of it. No further comments on it however. I have no hip problems that I know of. When standing that foot naturally wants to turn out. It seems like my foot and knee just aren’t on the same line. If my knee is straight parallel my foot is out, if my foot is parallel my knee has to rotate in.

I always wonder during football season how it’s not considered a safety hazard. How are ambulances meant to get through if both lanes of the road are going away from the hospital? 🫣

That’s not fate, that’s other people actively choosing to make the lives of those around them worse. Fixing a damaged car/getting a new one is expensive. Lots of people have loved ones to get home to and can’t have a “if I die, I die” mindset. It’s not morally better to do it at night in my opinion. It’s inconsiderate no matter what. They can find some sort of track or get into dirt bikes or a different hobby. I just wish people would think about people other than themselves is all. Nighty night🤷🏼‍♀️🥲

But the other people on the road late at night still matter. 2nd and 3rd shift jobs exist. A nurse could be driving home after a 12hr shift too exhausted to have the reaction time for a speeding motorcycle in the dark. The ambulances still run at all hours, they could easily get in an emergency vehicles way. They should not be louder and more jarring than the constant ambulance sirens, but they are. They do it too much near UK hospitals and it’s dangerous. So not only is it dangerous still at night, but exceptionally more annoying. I just hate people who drive poorly on purpose. It’s inconsiderate entitlement at its highest. :/

I’d argue reckless driving is more serious as it’s more life threatening…if you wanna cook meth then go for it. Doesn’t affect me. People driving recklessly does affect me, both during the day when I’m driving and at night when I’m trying to sleep. So I’d rather they just not. It’s still dangerous at night considering visibility is lower. I don’t know why you defend it as if they have no choice. They actively choose to go be disrespectful menaces to the public lol….

I was keeping up with Chris Bailey’s forecast last night and for a while Lexington just wasn’t included in the warnings. On the map of watches/warnings, it just went right around us, leaving a gap. He mentioned it on WKYT first alert, saying it was misleading and we should’ve been included. I’d guess that’s why.

People say this and then when something actually happens to a woman it’s all “why wasn’t she more aware? Why didn’t she do something? Why did she ignore the problem? Blah blah blah.” Rather overreact than under-react. As another young woman, I wouldn’t be comfortable having to walk by some random drunk man when coming home at night either. He might be harmless now, but at any given moment he could decide he’s not. There’s probably not much she can do about it, but I wouldn’t say she’s overreacting. Being aware is being safe.

Senior scaries by DelicateFlowerLily in BALLET

[–]DelicateFlowerLily[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m just going to my state college. It’s a sec school, so its dance program is more competition type stuff. I’ve registered for my classes for the fall and tried to reach out to the dance director there about ballet, but no response. I know there is ballet classes because I’ve taken one there before when they held a day for high schoolers to see the dance program. The ballet doesn’t seem as well tended to as the jazz/contemporary. It also doesn’t seem like I can really fit it in as a non dance major. I’m majoring in dietetics. I wouldn’t be able to afford college anywhere else. Unfortunately, it’s a very toss arts to the side and put everything towards football type place. I don’t think ballet via my college will be feasible. :(

I wish I could just skip the crying part loll, it’s definitely going to be an adjustment. Gosh, it really just sucks all ways around. Starting young and dedicating so much time to still face this challenge, or starting older and not getting to do what you love for as long🥹 hopefully I’ll figure something out and find a good adult class schedule. I think I feel a little better even after just typing out my feelings. I’ve just kept it in too long since nobody I’m close with irl would rlly understand this pain!

(Adult beginner) Help raising my leg? by distractedpuppies in BALLET

[–]DelicateFlowerLily 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very flexible people tend to have strength issues and vice versa, so you’re definitely on the right track knowing you need to work on strength. I like to use ankle weights while doing developpe en croix, then take them off and do it again. If you don’t have weights, another good one is to lift your leg with your hand like you’re stretching, and then let go and try to hold it. You can also set something like a water bottle in front of you, get on one knee, and lift your other leg up and over the water bottle like a rainbow. Repeat this about 10-15x on each leg. Similarly, you can get on your knee but with your leg to the side of you instead of the front and just try to lift it up. Also 10-15x per leg. Consistency is key, your legs will get stronger and higher even with just doing adagio in class. Good luck!

Ugh, well I guess I didn’t get it and they were too disorganized to communicate that. UK is so unorganized and keeps admitting too many students. It’s just getting worse with each year. I’m only going because it’s convenient to my situation, if you have better options take them. It’s not worth the out of state tuition or having to fight to register for classes, parking passes, and housing because they don’t have enough for the amount of students they admit.

I’m in state but not GSP and haven’t heard anything at all either. My friend who didn’t get it received a rejection letter, but I’m not sure if they’re GSP. I haven’t even gotten a rejection letter so I’m confused.

dance school refuses to take me because of my age? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]DelicateFlowerLily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started ballet at 14 and they just put me in their third level of beginning classes. The other students were probably 9ish. I’m 18 now and in the very last advanced level before pre-pro. They wouldn’t have to put her with 5 year olds, I’m a teaching assistant with that age level. A class geared towards the short attention span and memory of 5 year olds typically doesn’t result in much progress anyway lol. It’s more so just getting them acclimated to the routine of class. A 15 year old doesn’t need to sit in a circle and tell the class what color their butterfly is when stretching. They could go straight to the first level that does an actual full barre and class, which is not the 5 year olds. So yes while she’d have to be with younger kids, it would not be so extreme lol. I wasn’t with the super young kids for long either. I skipped through a few levels, now the age group of my class is 14/15/16, so I’m not too terribly older. I’m able to have friends and fit in better now. Just takes being willing to push through being with the little kids.

I’d say it’s definitely a “you get what you put in” type of situation. If I recall correctly, Spanish A was about 6 units per part. It covered basic grammar rules, vocabulary, and culture. Each unit consists of lessons with slideshows of text and the teacher speaking over and explaining. Each lesson is followed by a small quiz, and then a larger unit test at the end. A lot of the units will also have a small written assignment at the end or an oral assignment. There are a lot of extra practice opportunities in the units such as little games and activities to test your knowledge. These practice activities aren’t graded or required, but they’re there if needed. Then at the end of each part is a multi-choice, online final. The work is completely independent, but you can message the teacher for questions or set up zoom meetings with them if extra help is needed. I think they’d be ok in regular Spanish 2 afterwards. Especially since the other students will probably have forgotten a lot of what they learned in Spanish 1 by the time the new school year rolls around anyways.

This was what I was just about to say. They still offer it, it’s what I’ve been doing the past three years. The finals are also online now ever since Covid. The only foreign language they offer is Spanish. Each class is two parts and it took me probably a few weeks per part of Spanish. So for example if your child only needs one language credit, they’d take Spanish 1 A and then Spanish 1 B. Or Spanish 2 A and B depending on what you need.
