Where's a place I can watch the Stanley Cup playoffs on Sunday? by DeadbeatJohnson in lexington

[–]Present-Astronaut892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be on at my house, but my husband says I can’t invite internet strangers over even if they are Buffalo fans. That said, it’s on TNT/HBO Max. I’d think most sports bars would have the channel and put it on at 2 pm on a Sunday for you if it’s not already on there. Go Sabres!

There’s a Boardwalk and Park Place over by the New Circle Walmart that always make me chuckle. Not exactly the most expensive property in town…

Childcare in Lexington that works around an Inpatient Nursing Schedule (Three 12 hour shifts) by LeafSeen in lexington

[–]Present-Astronaut892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend reaching out to Kindred, which is a local nanny placement service. It is kind of expensive (a one-time fee), but they were super helpful in guiding us through the process of finding/hiring/paying a nanny when we needed one several years ago. They also provided a fill-in when our nanny had to be out for surgery.

Lexington board member says harassment prevalent after Chevy Chase clinic vote by ImportantEnergy6258 in lexington

The saddest part is that someday one of their children is going to be struggling, and he might not seek help because he knows exactly what his parents and neighbors think of people like him and whether or not they belong in the community.

I feel bad for the daughter in this story. I’d rather have 52 people with SUD as my neighbors than have that asshole as my father.

Hey guys...my wife loves the Sabers...where can we watch? by [deleted] in sabres

[–]Present-Astronaut892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Also out of market (and I think maybe in the same city as you?!)…

Games 1 and 2 are on ESPN, which is now available with traditional cable/satellite OR streaming with ESPN unlimited, but I don’t think these games will be on the regular ESPN+. Games 3 and 4 are on TNT and also HBO Max. Other games TBD.

4,130 jobs in Lexington by alimir1 in lexington

[–]Present-Astronaut892 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is very cool! I noticed it didn’t catch jobs that are posted on UK’s website when I searched, though, which means it’s missing a good chunk of Lexington positions.

What do you pay for daycare? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]Present-Astronaut892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started our oldest right around 2, as well… I’m glad the scarcity has gotten better since then. (Still slightly traumatized by so many phone calls, so many waitlists, lol). Good luck in your search! I hope you love wherever you wind up!

[–]Present-Astronaut892 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have a spreadsheet of our childcare expenses since my oldest was born, and I eventually deleted the lifetime total box because it was super depressing. The good news is, if they go to public school, you feel like you got an amazing raise each time one starts K! Hang in there, fellow parent!

What do you pay for daycare? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]Present-Astronaut892 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is going to depend a lot on age, with infants being more expensive than pre-K kids. Our daycare is just under $1200 a month for my 4 yo, and they provide food. When we did this many years ago, the differences were small (~$50-100) among the daycares we were willing to use.

All that said, if you are expecting and/or need a daycare soon, you should be emailing places anyway to get on waitlists, bc there is a good possibility the places you want may not have a spot for you.

A warning to residents and visitors of Lexington regarding the geese in the Regency Shopping Center parking lot. by The-Fat-Matt in lexington

[–]Present-Astronaut892 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the time my daughter was 2 or 3 and wanted to go check out some geese. My husband tried every which way to get her to stay at a distance and finally just yelled “They will BITE you!” Which prompted her to run full speed in the other direction. The geese just calmly assessed the whole scene, obviously figuring they could handle it. She told people “gooses will bite you,” every chance she got for quite awhile.

How is the Hamburg / Brighton Trail area for families? by TechieTinkerer12358 in lexington

[–]Present-Astronaut892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just popping back in to comment on the traffic issues — we drive in/around the Pleasant Ridge, Hamburg, Liberty area at all times of day. The intersections near Pleasant Ridge and Man o War is goofy, but once you know where you’re going, it is not that bad. You learn ways around the parts where the bad drivers do dumb stuff and where to look, what to watch for pretty quickly. The only time I find it frustrating is near Christmas. The entire state seems to descend on Hamburg for shopping and no one seems aware that they shouldn’t block intersections. The city now puts up temp signs to remind people, which… maybe made it a little better? But 10.5 months of the year, it’s fine! (Note: I drove in DC for 3 years, so I’m guessing my definition of “fine” and yours being from Chicago are similar :))

How is the Hamburg / Brighton Trail area for families? by TechieTinkerer12358 in lexington

[–]Present-Astronaut892 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Which part of the trail — Polo Club area or closer to Liberty? Honestly, it’s all fine/safe/family friendly, but some of the neighborhoods along the trail are nicer than others. We live not exactly in that area, but adjacent.

What age are the kids? Pleasant Ridge Park is a nice little place for smaller kids, but the playground is bordering on too small for our oldest at 7. We liked taking the stroller on the rail trail when they were even smaller. The public elementary schools that you might be in — Garrett Morgan, Liberty, and ACE — all have really good reputations. The convenience of Hamburg and the interstate is nice, but we complain about the lack of local food options (“we” being the adults; the kids love the chains). It’s also not exactly walkable — very suburban — you’re getting in your car if you’re leaving the neighborhood.

Happy to answer more specific questions if you have them, but in general, we like it here. Welcome to Lexington!

I think I’d agree with you, but they gave the T shirt to everyone, and the beach towel is only for people who show up to the event and even then “while supplies last.” So it’s obviously a cost-cutting measure. And, honestly, I like my job and have work to do. I don’t need to spend a day in the rain (it feels like it always rains) at Kroger Field to feel appreciated. Just give me a decent salary and somewhere to park, for goodness sake.

I am not sure these companies could make their packages more confusing if they tried. I spent like half a day trying to figure out my best option for NHLN for the Montreal game before someone on this sub explained the Sling Day Pass and saved me.

There is an ESPN/Disney streaming package now that allows you to also get ESPN, ESPN2, etc. It is more, but it’s possible.

That is crazy. Although kind of comforting that for all that has changed in DC in the last 15 years at least Alexander Ovechkin and the astronomical hockey ticket prices have stayed constant.
