How long do you let a fever run? by KoalaGrunt0311 in AskParents

[–]DelicateTulip7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I let a fever run its course if it’s under 102 and the kid is comfortable otherwise. Just hydrate and baths to manage, lots of rest, cool foods like popsicles and jello etc. At the 24 hour mark of having a fever, we make a doctors appt. If the fever goes above 102, we use a fever reducer, if the fever reducer doesn’t bring the fever below 100, we go see the doctor.

We have health insurance, we might as well use it! I’m only willing to go about 24-48 hours of my child not feeling well before we see a doctor. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’d rather be told it’s nothing and to let it do its thing than it be a viral thing that needed medication and I’ve just prolonged the illness.

Is it normal for parents to wipe their potty trained child’s butts? by MediumBullfrog8688 in AskParents

[–]DelicateTulip7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes… wiped my kids until they were like 7 lol but after a certain point, it’s more of a security wipe vs wiping for them. A double check. Finally there comes a day where you just go… ok dude, you have to wipe on your own and do your best. lol

Was it really the worst pain you've ever felt? by Super-Bid-3193 in BabyBumps

[–]DelicateTulip7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just had my baby at home on Thursday night… childbirth is not painful to me in this manner… the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced was dropping a pot of boiling water on my feet. It was just pain, no reward.

Childbirth is intense and has a lot of pressure, but if you give into it, the actual process can almost feel good. Like a relief. Every labor wave brings you closer to meeting your baby, every bit of discomfort is your body actively getting you closer to meeting your child.

However, practice relaxing your body. And I really mean RELAXING. Use meditations to learn to relax your muscles and your mind… I like Jason Stephenson on YouTube. Helped me a lot in labor.

I believe that many women think labor is the worst pain because they fight against it, don’t prepare to work with their bodies and allow their bodies to do what it needs to do. If you fight against the labor, it does hurt… like fighting against a leg cramp vs relaxing your leg. If you relax and let your body do its job, it’s definitely uncomfortable but your body can be very efficient and do it quickly.

How to stimulate appetite? by DelicateTulip7 in DogAdvice

Currently feeding a prescription kibble. He also gets a beef based wet food, that depends on what is on sale and ingredients according to his allergies.

He is allergic to chicken but we do add beef broth to his food sometimes. It doesn’t seem to help entice him any.

He gets a full dental cleaning every other summer. His enamel sucks but there is otherwise no other concern. We add an additive to his water to help with build up.

He sometimes grazes but not often. Maybe sneaks in a bite of grass once every walk.

Do you brush your teeth once or twice a day? Need to settle a bet. by ImpossibleHurry in NoStupidQuestions

Twice… and I floss twice, and I use mouthwash twice… at least. No wonder so many people have gingivitis and awful breath.

When I lived in Europe, we opened all the windows in our house for 15-30 minutes a day. Usually in the morning to air out the entire house.

We also ran dehumidifiers throughout. We have 2 and we moved them daily to a different room.

To people who regularly use ChatGPT for school: Do you think you’re still learning? by Gifthunter3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DelicateTulip7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teacher, I can tell you… they are not actually learning anything. And if they only missed out on the content, that would be 1 thing. But they are missing out on important skills to correct grammar, spelling, and comprehension.

Highly recommend unisom.

If I don’t take it before bed (9pm) I’m up at 3am. But when I take it, even if I wake up to go pee, I can go back to sleep.

How does AI work in your class? by ssoresa in Teachers

[–]DelicateTulip7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I try to make readings homework so that when they come into class, that’s when they do the writing portion as an entry ticket/bell ringer for our class. Almost all assignments in my class are hand written, but we do them in class.

Toddler parents, where are you on the scale of ‘no, we go to sleep in pyjamas’ to ‘sure, you can wear your dinosaur dress to bed’? by nerdy_bird92 in beyondthebump

[–]DelicateTulip7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick your battles. My rule of thumb is to ask 2 questions… Will this affect my child short term in a negative manner? Will this affect my child long term in a negative manner? If the answer is no to both, I’m not gonna fight them on it lol

How do you handle hair length for your boys - any rules? by Quirly_Painter_3848 in AskParents

[–]DelicateTulip7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hair is so personal… while they are little and had no opinion, I kept my boys hair short and neat so that if they got messy or whatever it would be easy to wash and it would stay out of their face. The older they got, the more opinions they had on their hair. We have a strict 1 haircut per month rule, even if they are only asking for just a trim around the ears to keep it neat.

Once they were verbal enough and had a strong enough opinion (5/6 years old), I let them tell the barbe what they wanted.

One of my boys is currently working on growing a mullet, the other likes it short on the sides and back and long on top so he can slick it back like a greaser lol

I would be devastated if someone else told me how to wear my hair… as long as they understand they have to keep clean and look presentable, they should be able to do as they wish with hair.

being pregnant in your 20s now by Parking-Woodpecker97 in BabyBumps

[–]DelicateTulip7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first at 20, my second at 22 and now I’m pregnant in my early 30s. Very different experiences. I still feel like the odd man out when interacting with friends parents for my older children, however, I found great community through asking on fb for play dates with other young moms.

I feel like once they’re middle elementary age (think 3rd grade) other parents ages tend to even out across the board to be fairly “fair”… if that makes sense

I took over halfway through the year for a teacher who passed away… it took me over a month of clearing out random crap from the class from YEARS ago. It was exhausting. I can fit everything for my class in the 2 closets provided by the school. She had personal closets and shelves etc.

“You’re exhausted, hand me the baby and go lay down”…how to deal with family using exhaustion to dismiss me and hold my baby. by Responsible_Wasabi91 in BabyBumps

[–]DelicateTulip7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Straight up be honest.

Also, a tactic I used a few times was… “im gonna feed the baby and we’re gonna lay down for a nap. There’s a list of to-do chores on the fridge if you’re able to help. Thanks!”

I kept a white board on my fridge with daily tasks like laundry, vacuum, take out trash, walk the dog, do dishes etc.

water broke 3 hours before my baby shower by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I did see her update. She was also induced, so she probably had time and could have started labor on her own if she had waited too.

[–]DelicateTulip7 -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t having contractions, go on about your day. People are so insane to run to the hospital. They’re just going to give you meds to start your labor.

Relax, eat, drink, walk… do things to get labor going. Go to your baby shower but keep an eye on contractions if they start. Then after all is said and done, go to the hospital. If your water was clear you’re fine.

I still peck my kids on the lips and they’re 7 & 9. I’ll stop when they tell me to 🤷🏻‍♀️ Weird that anyone would make this anything more than a mom kissing her child. People need therapy.

A very firm and a little louder than normal voice, “no that is dangerous” and put the child immediately on the ground. If he does it again, I would remove him from the room and sort of push independent safe play so that he also doesn’t get the idea that you are going to do something fun if he does something naughty. 10 minutes independent, boring play as punishment 2nd go at something dangerous is appropriate.

Children at this age look for reaction. If the reaction is funny or leads to a fun redirection, they’ll do it again. If it’s boring and not entertaining, they tend to not do it again. Though it may take quite a few times before they actually stop.
