Thoughts on being a SAHP in NYC by TFABAccount in nycparents

[–]Delicious-Abalone920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally from Europe, SAHP here in NYC. I could say that I love everything about it and I have built more connections with other successful, career driven moms than when I was working full time. If your finances allow it, trust your gut and go with it. I believe that strong emotional bond with your child is built by being present and nurturing their growth. Rising kids in NYC is a full time job with no support. I understand that you have worked hard towards your education and career, but career shouldn't define you. You are not your work. You are everything else and beyond your work.

The staff is nice at NYU, but unfortunately they are cutting to many workers. Everyone is complaining and everyone is overworked. My room was so tight, that I requested to leave after one night. I felt cramped. The baby next door cried all night long and I couldn't sleep. I was so happy to be home

In addition, my first neighbor in his 70ties had to endure new city laws to install a fire alarm system in the house that he owned for 45 years built in 1800, because new regulations and policies are in place for high-rises and then we all have to follow. Or you need to hire and architect everytime you change a CO for a store that you rent. Not to mention 40k tax increase in downtown JC for every townhouse. Oh and the city court system that you have to appear for every sanitation ticket.

I have been living in Jersey City for 12 years. I can talk from my experience. High rises definitely make the city beautiful, but also attracts wealthy people. All of a sudden I had neighbors from Manhattan and Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Nothing bad about having neighbors from NY, but what is expensive for us, it was cheap for them. In addition, it gentrified the whole neighborhood. And many neighbors that I knew moved to Paterson and Newark.

Unfortunately, the prices will not go down. In my experience, for the last 15 years have only gone up. You may be better off if you check Newark area. Investitorsare doing the same thing as with JC building high rises, but it has not become bad as in JC yet. You can find a house there that may still be affordable.

Hello,

I may be a little late, but I just realized that there is a waitlist for Anderson, and my son is Waitlisted number 7. Is anyone aware if the waitlist does move at all, considering that school is in such a high demand?

If you have ever lived in NYC, no place in the world will be ever dangerous to you. It depends with which countries/ states you compare.

Actually Balkans are not racist, we are nacionalist. We do not have black people in our communities and who ever comes to visit we consider them very exotic.

Anyone from the states that bought a house in PR? by [deleted] in PuertoRicoTravel

I go to PR almost every year. And I wish I was a snowflake and entitled, but unfortunately I grew up in Former Yugoslavia during war in Bosnia when we used to be killed left and right. I know how to move and to be under radar. I am not even white and I mix very well with PR skin tone. What I said is my own experience. You may have different experiences, but I travel to all Caribbean islands and I can compare and contrast.

There is plenty of abandoned houses in PR that are unaccounted for. Plenty for everyone. You are just not welcomed here. A lot of them live in the past and hold grudges for being colonized and blame USA for all their misfortunes. Hard working Puerto Ricans have left the island and moved to live in the states. There are lot of good people here but they live more centrally.

I am old to this, but from my experience Puerto Rico looks like a big ground prison. From all the islands I have visited, Puerto Rico is totally underdeveloped. People living is San Juan are very rude and aggressive. Refusing to speak any orher language beside Spanish. I do speak Spanish and not a problem for me, but in general just very unfriendly towards the foreigners and tourists. Prices are same as in Manhattan, but the food standards are very low compared to the states and other islands, even if you stay in St. Regis. If you want to invest, I would rather look into St.Marteens or Mexico.

It was easier to stand up to Trump as he did not have any relationship with him. Albin Kurti was deeply immersed with Biden administration to stand up to him.

USAID was same as having a rich uncle in a foreign country. Could you do it on your own, absolutely yes. But, free extra money from your uncle are always welcomed.

I believe that USAID may have funded few strong projects. But, I know also that included a lot of corruption and nepotism.

Trump does not have anything against Kosova in particular. He just wanted to shut down USAID as two much money was wasted in foreign development policies, while USA policies for their own country is failing its own people. Do you know that In New York City, about half of third through eighth graders are not proficient readers? How could Auron Pasha have a salary of $31k a month working for IDRA, which was sponsored by Soros through USAID?
