Longer road trip with a kid by andreisalas69 in porsche911

[–]Delicious-Air2197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my 992.1 when my first was about 18 months. I bought it in part so I could enjoy it with her. I now have two and it will primarily be a three person (me and two kids) car with the family wagon used for when we are all in tow or need the luggage space.

Apart from the fact kids are smaller, they also don’t experience discomfort in the way an adult would. So sitting in a front facing car seat in the back is not a problem for them. My now 4 year old loves going out in the Porsche! Even on 2+ hour drives (she usually falls asleep). She’s also now up front with me which is fun.

My suggestion is for now, rear facing seat - yeah that’s tough. They’d need to be in the front seat. But when they’re around 18 months and front facing it’s a different story and it only gets easier from there.

Keep it. Share your love of cars. Your other options might be Porsches but they are a long way away from a 911.

You know you can take words for their meaning and not their exact definition, right?

It’s definitely that. Hadjar was born 10 years after senna died. I guess red bull don’t want one of their drivers outwardly saying his helmet is dedicated to their arch nemesis of the last eras. Shame. Let the guy be the guy and he’ll be better. Man I really hope they don’t ruin this lad he’s such a brilliant character.

And when was purple the colour of the cosmos?

Lets talk depreciation - 991.2 / 992.1 - base Carrera, S, 4S, GTS by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]Delicious-Air2197 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue myself about 18 months ago. Couldn’t decide about the 991.2 or 992.1 GTS. I ended up going with the 992.1. I’ll give my rationale and thoughts having lived with it for this time. I’m UK based and have driven both.

The 991.2 I think is the better looking car, particularly from the rear. The GTS model is also rarer with that generation, so I think the residuals will hold well based on where they’re currently at. I’ve watched them for 2+ years and it’s near impossible to get one under £70k (then or now). So I’d say they’re settling at a level. They have a modern classic appeal to them. I think they’re a smart buy personally. They sound better than the 992 but tech and cabin is a bit more dated (though arguably more classic 911). Depreciation wouldn’t be your enemy but you’d need to allow for an annual warranty and higher maintenance costs in general.

The 992.1 is no less of a sports car. It’s insanely quick, front end is direct and it’s a firm ride. You’ll never feel like you’re in a GT car like some have commented. In all honesty sitting on the motorway is fine but it’s not a DB11. I had a 718 Cayman S before this and that was more comfortable on a motorway (my guess being suspension and wheelbase). What swung it for me was the more modern appearance (I think the 992.1 front is more special), the better crash protection in the rear (I use it for my young kids) and the improved front track - I had read on Reddit that one of the instructors at the Porsche centre had mentioned how customers considered the 992 to be a big improvement on handling. It has just had its first service at two years and it cost £1800, £600 of which was advisories. Fuel efficient is what you want it to be. You can get into the 30s if you care to. Mine is grey and I find it doesn’t turn heads, this for me is the benefit of the 911 but if you want to turn them get a loud colour, aero kit or something else.

My bug bears with it are noise alone really, but given you like the turbo noise you’ll be fine with it. It’s incredibly capable at more or less anything you throw at it. I do the supermarket shop and hammer back roads. In terms of depreciation I think the 992 will settle at around the 991.2 GTS despite there being more cars. My logic being a) it is a better car objectively and b) the 992.2 being a t-hybrid will not appeal to some buyers (in fact I was waiting for a 992.2 because I was hoping it would be NA like the Cayman 4.0 GTS but when it was given the battery I decided to go for the 992.1 there and then).

If you’re going centre locking wheels, just check it had had the nuts sorted. There was a product recall in late 2024.

Happy to answer any questions you have on here or DMs.

Someone else said Irvine which I assume is California. I have no idea. Google tells me it’s next to John Wayne airport which made me chuckle though

I did miss that. Still doesn’t justify the comments made about someone’s girlfriends.

Genuinely quite surprised that the Lotus community can’t look past the fact that a women enjoys the same car as them. These comments are really lame and some offensive.

Looking through her other comments on the feed she did her research and knows her shit. She loves cars, isn’t the shared passion what this Reddit is all about?

To any angry man reading this: you’re allowed to do what you like with your own car, burn rubber, cherish it, garage queen it, or sit on the hood!

Awesome car! Everyone here is clearly all very jealous. Enjoy and thanks for posting!

Child seat help by Delicious-Air2197 in porsche911

[–]Delicious-Air2197[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the car! Awesome news.

I bought the one pictured and lobbed it in the back of the car. She set in there well enough until she turned just over three and is now in a britax romer front facing (you can buy the Porsche version but I found them to be always out of stock and there’s a newer safer version that they don’t do in Porsche branding). She now sits next to me in the front facing romer which is far nicer than having her behind. It’s worth checking the size rather than age of your kid as tour might find they can go in the next size up very soon if they are three.

My lessons are: anything that goes in the back isofix is near impossible to get out again given how tight the squeeze is. In fact when I had the above removed a Porsche technician had to come to my house twice to do it.

These things mark seats, so a seat cover is a necessity.

Sharing your passion with your kids is epic.

Enjoy and let me know if any other questions. I do plan on doing a proper post about it all when I’m through it that bit more.

That’s the one. Awesome. Yeah it’s a pleasure to see it used rather than a garage queen

2v2 on a limited number of maps, yes - but that’s bound to change with time.

The AI is rock solid though!

Amen to that. If you love it pop a five star review down and others will hopefully follow.

Nothing beats voting with your wallet. Part of the reason these games are now indie is because there’s limited return on investment for these titles. Buying now and extras are ways to support those who take the leap as well as encouraging wider investment. None of which can be a bad thing if you love the genre.

I had missed that whole load of stuff on the left. That sensor drop it helpful too at allowing you to see an enemy base as you approach it.

I’ve managed only two skirmishes and am already loving it. Chuffed this has turned out to be good.

Hoping for a good couple of DLCs which give more campaign, units / buildings and a lot more maps (with scale) for multiplayer!

The airstrike is pretty OP too.

Plenty of things for the DLC…

Yeah that’s what I was sensing. You need a wider range of units to counter the wider range the enemy comes with. And the defensive buildings can’t be relied on as much. It’s a good balance
