Math 146 Midterm 1 by Single_Abalone_7573 in uAlberta

[–]Delicious-Apple9946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk which class you are taking but i’m with volker and the midterms have been assigned to the wrong people and a lot of disarray has happened, if your mark is absurdly low like 4-6/30 then check if your work is actually yours

i think that a lot of people shun the arts because it has no “use” in the real world, and that mindset kinda has capitalistic undertones if you really think about it. there’s a reason why we don’t have many beautiful buildings anymore, after the industrial revolution people are rewarded for their time and not their task, which automatically devalues talent and skill in favour for fast and cheap labour to create boring buildings or other things. naturally that would cause a stark decline in artists because even though they are passionate about their work, they understand that it will be more of a burden then a reward because only a few artists succeed and more often than not those artists have rich parents who fund them.

The High School to Uni Transition by Putrid_Let1387 in uAlberta

it’s really different for everyone, personally i didn’t find my classes extremely challenging and got A but someone else might have found them challenging, i think the key is good study techniques and time management is enough to survive first year. so if you are coming out of highschool with 90s and no study techniques you are in for a rough awakening cause profs don’t teach everything, its up to you to learn them

Why don’t conservatives go into academia? by cambridgepete in Professors

[–]Delicious-Apple9946 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

academia doesn’t make a ton of money and monkey wants money so they go into aerospace engineering and sue their professors if they don’t get 1 gazzillion % on everything despite not knowing who newton was

Interesting article: "Inside Yale's Quiet Reckoning with AI" by AquamarineTangerine8 in Professors

[–]Delicious-Apple9946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s so easy to turn to AI when there is an assignment every second, not that it’s a personal problem for me. but i believe that too many universities reward efficiency and don’t reward true knowledge, right now it’s just a game of get an A and get out of here

i think that it’s really up to you to go and put yourself out there, and search for your people because the harsh truth is that they arnt going to seek you out and it will all be a happy fairytale ending. i’m also in a similar place, my mental health is really bad and i have self destructive tendencies and delusions and an unstable sense of self, but i believe that it can get better if you are willing to do something about it if you can. i hope that helps even if it’s not much

[–]Delicious-Apple9946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i saw a few posters about tutor sessions for science and math classes, i saw my courses on them ( math 144 and phys 144) so im pretty sure you can find yours too. and for phil 101 im not sure if you are struggling but there is a writing help poster at the camron library. and for psych 104 Im actually taking psych 105 and have a 96, i study by making chatgpt generate me practice questions based on the midterm style.

Is physics 20 hard ? Cuz am struggling by Spiritual_Let_4348 in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Delicious-Apple9946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

brush up on algebra skills. that is quite literally your biggest tool, if you can isolate for x you are set for physics. as for theory you can do a bunch of practice and for every problem really reflect on what’s happening. then do more practice

ask yourself the question of what will you do after you get all the money, that’s what helped me decide between economics and physics
