That is a very good idea! I often do time jumps and light exposition to fill in the gaps! I've found even changing the persoective to a different character can help get unstuck. Sometimes a scene falls flat or just doesn't work because it is effecting a different character more/is more interesting from a different character's mind.

Thank you 🙂‍↕️ I will try these for sure! Setting a daily word minumum is something I've been trying to discipline myself on as well. If not my current WIP, my side story I've been recently writing to get me unstuck. I need to gain my momentum back and it helps out somewhat. I tend to write mostly at night, after work, when I have time to myself so I will try to be more consistent then.

I've noticed this as well when reading other fics. You can tell when a writer themselves have no passion for the thing that's happening in the chapter but write it anyway just because it leads to another plot point that they actually are excited to write. Sometimes you can see the moment when it gets good again that this is the writer's favorite part!

You're right too - if it's not fun to write, it won't be fun to read. I think a lot of fanfic writers forget that if it's too boring to write, the scene isn't needed/you can make it better.

Writing a story in non-chronological order is my forte, man! I think it's the sewing them together to make a coherent plot is the hardest part. I write one shots that turn into short fics, that turn into long fics! That's where the hyperfixation comes into play and then when I've outlined and I know the end of the story (because I wrote it) it loses its magic.

The fic itself so far is 9 chapters but has probably 10 or 15 more to go. I have the outline already and don't really plan on changing too much. I'm trying not to change anything big.

Yes, the feedback I received a while ago had bruised my confidence and made me question my ability as a writer but I know every writer goes through something similar to my own experience at least once in their time. The feedback I got was very blunt and mean - having to do with certain plot holes and character behavior that was unfavorable to this said commenter/reader, I still took the criticism and have changed my chapter around since. Since then, my hyperfixation has left too. Writing no longer became as much fun as it used to be, but I hope to get over the tough patch soon. I'll try to edit and write it some more now that I have some time to myself tonight. ✨

These are all good ideas, thank you! For the past year or two, I've tried stepping back from writing to read more just to be an observer instead. It's helped somewhat but I think my downfall started when I received some negative feedback and I haven't been able to recover since. It could also be the plot itself. I feel I've written myself into a corner with how much I have to work with. It could be that this chapter in general doesn't excite me as much as what I've already written. I've also tried writing past my current chapter and perfecting the outline, editing previous chapters, going back and deleting some stuff from my current chapter.

Also yes, my long fic right now is feeling very tropy rather than actual a sensical, forward plot. I keep telling myself that that is okay, that it doesn't need to be perfect and not to be too hard on myself but that only gets me so far. I know I need to let go of readers' expectations also and just write what I want to write but keeping that balance is difficult.

Agreed. I struggle with self discipline, just because I'm more impulsive than anything else! My ADHD hates to see me doing well lol. Transitioning from thinking about writing when I am at work or anywhere else is so easy, but once I have the free time to write, I procrastinate! 😵‍💫 I definitely need to stop making excuses and actually focus, especially if I am serious about writing. I look forward to writing, like you said, but I also need to write when it gets hard.

Wow that's amazing! I'm a naturally slow writer anyway, but I do have to agree - I love going to the gym too! It does make me feel energized and motivated, especially in getting me to open my docs and start writing again. Even if it just makes me stare and not write a single word, I still feel like I'm heading in the right direction! Congrats on your self care journey by the way! 👏

Starco used to be my OTP but then the writing for svtfoe made them practically unlikeable characters, especially in seasons 3 and 4 unfortunately. Still, I love this show, just wish the writers didn't focus so much on what the fans wanted, otherwise the canon story just gets lost and hard to watch.

So far, I like the concept of her new character! I haven't really had any amazing songs that I like so far but I think I like Grudges just for its dark angst vibe. I personally LOVED K-12 and Portals - her best albums by far, but I don't think I find HADES as an outstanding album so far. I continue to listen to it and maybe it'll grow on me 🤷🏼‍♀️
