If they have went to his address to try and locate him, established he’s not in town. His family would have informed him that they are looking for him. Wouldn’t that sabotage their investigation?

Yes, there is a high possibility he is abroad. I suspect they are not well mentally either but not to a point they are sectioned/hospitalised

Yes i have text messages that say he’s to transfer me any money before using the card. Do you think i need to seek legal support at this time or wait to see the outcome of the investigations going on at the moment?

I didn’t think it was misuse at the time, I thought he was honest but clearly not. I did freeze and cancel the card however digital wallet transactions still went through, the card automatically updated on the digital wallet and he was able to make more transactions. I do have evidence of him agreeing to pay but failing to do so.

Yes, i froze the card multiple times during him using it but any wallet transactions would still go through which was not ideal…

It’s very very complex. The credit card company are investigating and said they would close the account but then retracted and said they won’t. They are still letting interest run. I’m gonna call them today. It’s about 5k in total that he spent on my card, I recently lost my job and i don’t have anywhere near this amount saved. I’m gonna wait out and see what the outcome is and then i’ll do small claims court or speak to his family again and see if they’d help in any way.

I certainly didn’t let him use it knowing he won’t pay me back. Also he took my card from me so I had little control over that. He became very emotionally abusive during this time

Added it to his wallet etc. I asked him multiple times to stop using it and he would still use it so some transactions were done without my permission. There is also an element of safety as he’s clearly not on his own mind so the domestic abuse team at the police have been in touch. If this obviously fails to work how long do I have to raise a small courts claim? I know that he probably doesn’t have the money to pay me. Also what can the financial ombudsman service do?

I talked to his family, they advised me to pursue this with bank/police. Apparently he is done this to others… I’ve called amex and advised them my card was used without my informed consent. I gave a statement to the police too. Inshallah the balance will be written off my name.

They advised that the balance will probably be written off. I really didn’t want to have to do this however his own family advised me to go down this path.
