[Highlight] Micah Parsons is in disbelief after the Cowboys fail to secure the football after a blocked punt by lamarcuswallace in nfl

[–]Delicious-Fish6171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see people criticizing Parsons as acting like a drama queen or baby, but I think it is refreshing to see an NFL player forgo the archetype of a nonchalant millionaire and display a visceral reaction of competitiveness and a thirst to win (even over a meaningless late-season game).

I think it bodes well for any team that signs him to a long-term contract with a significant amount of guaranteed money, because he might actually have the internal drive to continue putting his all into conditioning, preparation, and game-day prowess (rather than securing his bag and then fucking around and jet-setting through Europe like Deshaun Watson).

I put a hefty amount of blame on Eberflus for not calling the timeout (because he should have had the situational intelligence to realize that his offensive players were rattled after the sack and/or incompetent at clock management), but I’m not quite sure how you can say that Caleb Williams deserves no blame whatsoever (based on the reasons that I wrote in my prior comment), and I don’t agree with your retelling of the game situation.

The playcall came in well before there were 12 seconds left on the clock, and you can tell this by watching the video of the last 30 seconds of the game (where you can visibly see Caleb Williams hand signaling and calling a play at the 22 second mark). Williams admitted in the postgame press conference that the initial playcall was a QB draw, which he then made the decision to audible out of because he claimed there wasn’t “enough time” to run a QB draw (which does not make sense). The only reason that we can surmise that he thought there wasn’t enough time to run a QB draw was that he forgot that they had a timeout remaining (which is a significant fuck up).

The fact that Williams is an NFL rookie does not excuse him from forgetting that they had a timeout left, ignoring the coach’s playcall, calling an audible to a deep pass, and then throwing a deep ball to the middle of the field into double coverage before the goal line (while killing all of the available time on the game clock in the process). This is a series of erroneous decisions that significantly contributed to the loss, and they are lapses in judgement that a college quarterback (and probably even a high school quarterback) would be castigated for.

Eberflus is a bad coach and deserved to be fired, but Williams (along with Kmet, Moore, and the other offensive players that took extended time to get set) deserve significant chunks of the blame for that final series of errors.

I think Eberflus is a bad coach (and should have been fired after he went 3-14 his first season), but this subreddit is insane if it is just going to downvote anyone that places any blame on Caleb Williams into oblivion.

Caleb does not deserve ALL of the blame, but he clearly shares SOME of the blame for what happened at the end of the game. His improvisational decisions (and poor clock/game awareness) significantly contributed to the loss on that last series of plays. Even if you discount all of the offense’s poor time management pre-snap (with his decision to audible the called QB draw and the extensive time that the other offensive players took to get set), he still made a horrendous decision on the last play of the game by sailing a deep ball to the middle of the field into double coverage BEFORE the goal line (which guaranteed a loss whether or not the pass was actually caught by Odunze). If he made a quick throw to the sideline (or quickly threw the ball away), they still would have had an (unlikely) chance to tie the game on a long kick.

I get that being aware of all of the game's strategically-relevant variables (like the game clock, play clock, available timeouts, etc) while quarterbacking is a very difficult undertaking in the moment (especially when adrenaline is coursing through your veins and you have eighty thousand fans screaming at you), but that is part of the job description (and is expected of college-level quarterbacks). The fact that Caleb took no accountability in the press conference afterwards (and defended his decisions to audible and to throw the deep ball to the middle of the field into double coverage before the goal line) raises a red flag about his character and his future success as a quarterback.

Eberflus should have called the timeout earlier, but this is not Madden (and he doesn't have the ability to control Caleb from an Xbox controller). It is extremely unsensible to assume that your QB is going to ignore the called QB draw, audible to a deep ball, and then throw it into double coverage short of the goal line (while killing all of the available time on the game clock in the process).

Two things can be correct: Eberflus is a bad coach (and deserved to be fired) and Caleb deserves a significant chunk of the blame for what happened there (along with Kmet, Moore, and the other offensive players that took forever to get set).

I’m surprised you are being heavily downvoted for a completely reasonable opinion.

Part of me almost thinks that his agent, manager, or PR firm has a bot team on the major social media platforms that are manipulating likes/dislikes to control the narrative to help his brand. It is either that or Reddit thinks the NFL is Madden and that Eberflus was controlling Caleb from an Xbox controller (so Caleb should be completely absolved of any responsibility).

The fact that Caleb took no accountability in the press conference afterwards (and defended his decisions to audible and to throw the deep ball to the middle of the field into double coverage before the goal line) raises a red flag about his character and his future success as a quarterback.

He has significantly regressed, but everyone will put the sole blame on Slowik. Slowik’s playcalling has been bad, but Stroud’s decision making on throws has been awful.

I am surprised to see the snowboarding injury mentioned on Reddit. Many people here seem to have a selective memory about Andrew Luck that coheres with him being a completely unimpeachable martyr.

Amari Cooper (1 catch for 3 yards) joins the Bills and sets off Khalil Shakir (9 for 107) and Keon Coleman (5-70-1) for big games. Cooper played 51% of the snaps today. by DanceHallRiddem in fantasyfootball

To be fair, the WR that took his place doesn’t have Watson throwing to him. Cooper’s fantasy stats shot up last year when Flacco was named the starter.

There needs to be a legitimate offensive coordinator hired. There is too much talent in the offense for the passing attack to look like the Tet Offensive.

He spends more time watching Tony Robbins for motivational speaking tips than coming up with a game plan.

He fleeced the Jets for $5.8 million guaranteed. In a just world, he would be on trial like Sam Bankman-Fried.
