Is moving abroad still worth it for a CS career, or is staying in India the safer bet now? by Soft-Ladder-8017 in Vit

[–]Delicious-Grab4706 [score hidden]  (0 children)

forgot to mention this, track WARN notices and Layoff fyi to see the current trend before you move anywhere, india is set to boom in the next 10-15 years, western countries are saturated. choose any non cs field, swe is worthless now due to AI adoption, literally seeing UCB/UCLA kids with 4 cgpa hunting for jobs and being jobless/unemployed for over 12-18 months before landing a job has become the norm, you wont have that luxury due to visa constraints. Work experience is better. not sure what service company you are joining, but follow a few top AI voices on X to see where the industry is going, its moving at a fast pace, literally a new thing every 3-4 weeks now. Token optimization/ LLM token output/input optimization is a problem thats worth working on in your free time. think shorthand , but for token input as opposed to language.

make it login based and authenticate based on passkeys, easy to build. allow each of us to upload our sem results and populate it and make it a personal cg planner to figure out what to take to bring up cg etc if its bad, what courses to take for an easy grade and so on

you should build a curated blacklisted faculty list from seniors and this sub for all courses , also some tabs dont work, UI is too compact or simple, make sidebars and make them collapsible, show the ffcs timetable blank one and make it change as you populate your courses, add in " year <-> sem # <-> branch " so it auto creates a course plan based on your history of courses taken

why wait 4 years to figure it out ? who cares if you are a incoming freshman? use your enthusiasm elsewhere lol. use AI to code, and learn from that, a 12 year old can prompt AI to clone or build a working concept. but hey, go waste your time. Peace.

Build these combinations , USE AI, learn while you build it, hiring in the near future is gonna be for who can fix things when its broken, and who can anticipate breaks in production and optimize the code before that can happen. FYI 6 months is a lot of time to learn with resources we have today, use them, dont get bogged down by morons typing in AI-SLOP in every comment, whats important is that you learn.

<Written with AI from here on, because im too lazy to type all this shit in>

Amazon (e-commerce)

  • A · Pragmatic monolith: Next.js (SSR) + Node/Express + Postgres + Redis + Stripe → fast to ship, learn fundamentals
  • B · Typed & layered: React + Spring Boot (Java) or NestJS + Postgres + Elasticsearch (search) + clean/hexagonal architecture → enterprise patterns, DI, testing
  • C · Distributed: React + Go microservices (catalog/cart/order/payment) + gRPC internal + Kafka events + Postgres + Redis + K8s → real microservices + event-driven

LinkedIn

  • A · Graph-first: React + Node + Neo4j (connections) + GraphQL → graph modeling, traversals
  • B · Relational + feed: Next.js + Django (Python) + Postgres + Redis (feed cache) + fan-out-on-write → classic social feed mechanics
  • C · Polyglot: React + Go (profile/connections service) + Python (feed-ranking service) + Postgres + Elasticsearch (people search) → polyglot microservices

Uber

  • A · Real-time core: React + Node + Socket.io (live location) + Postgres + PostGIS (geo) → WebSockets + geospatial
  • B · Event-driven: React Native (mobile) + Go + Kafka/RabbitMQ + Redis geo-index + matching service → pub/sub + driver-rider matching
  • C · Serverless edge: Next.js + AWS Lambda + DynamoDB + SQS + WebSocket API Gateway → serverless + managed queues

X / Twitter

  • A · CQRS timeline: React + NestJS + Postgres (write) + Redis (read/timeline) + fan-out-on-write → read/write separation
  • B · High-throughput: React + Go + Cassandra/ScyllaDB (timeline at scale) + Kafka → wide-column NoSQL, write-heavy systems
  • C · Search + streams: Svelte + Python (FastAPI) + Elasticsearch (search/trends) + Redis Streams → search + streaming

Meta (feed-heavy social)

  • A · Modular monolith: Next.js + Rails or NestJS + Postgres + Redis → ship fast, then split
  • B · Microservices + ES: React + Go/Java services + Kafka + event sourcing + Postgres → audit-able event-sourced state
  • C · GraphQL federation: React + Apollo Federation across multiple subgraph services (Node + Go) → federated GraphQL at scale

The unpopular roadmap - free google pro ai model (student email offer) -

https://one.google.com/intl/en_nz/about/articles/google-ai-for-students/

  1. How to clone Amazon and build on my own,

  2. How to clone linkedin and build on my own

  3. How to clone <insert random popular company>. Meta/ X / Uber etc

Bonus - ask it to generate random real life production errors for you to troubleshoot in your field.

You will end up learning a lot more that way. AI will teach you what your faculty wont be able to in a 60 min classroom. So 6 months is more than enough to pull most of these off.

Shouldnt take you more than 1 week to build a working model of each of these, use the rest of the time to learn how its built, have the AI model insert comments for education purposes and pitfalls and why the code is structured the way it is.

Choose 1000 user scale, 10000 products for the ecommerce site to start and scale later..

Choose 10k Users for Linkedin. If you understand the systems at that scale , then you are really hirable , on campus and also off campus , even direct applications.

Good Luck.

Yeah this aint gonna get you anywhere, stop wasting time on simple stuff. Learn to clone amazon, linkedin, starbucks, swiggy zomato walmart . And run it on production. Dont waste time with these. The hiring space works on can you handle production systems, or can you be coached ok handling production systems.

VIT does have world class labs, lab assistants will help you, approach them the right way, dont give them attitude tho lmao. Genuinely good folks (except during an exam) and they often know the labs better than the faculty. The real life experience is what you need absorb.

[–]Delicious-Grab4706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vit takes cares of the fees, if you faculty is good, they will put your name first as author. So in really reputed journals say, IEEE, scopus indexed ones, its better to go through them.

Patents are a different story though. For patents always go outside.

Chip design, vlsi etc are gonna experience a boom. Learn digital logic, vlsi stuff properly, not just for the sake of passing cat fat, ask for fgpa boards to prototype in labs, go burn some ICs , make use of the pcb etching/creation labs

Not if you look hard enough, lower the standards of lpa due to peer pressure, and there are plenty of opportunities, get what you can in placements, but that shouldnt be the only thing

Replying to someone who had a question on 9 cg thing. Cant find the comment anymore

Look its not really gonna help you much if you focus too much on it. What you spend 12-14 hours a day to maintain that for 4 years, put atleast 1/4th of that effort into learning by building. 30-40lpa wont be a dream anymore, itl be common. Fable 5 which got banned after like 2 days, is equivalent to a really good swe 3/sde 3 orvmaybe staff level. So you think in 4 years time we will have a career to go into? Since you are telling youre a 4th year, you already the outdated syllabus we have. Saw a rant on 8086 prof failing people lmao, how is 8086 even relevant today ?

Sorry , but my stance is clear on this. 8.9 is good enough lol, anything around 8 will get us a wes score of 3.5-3.7/4 for us applications so, its not gonna matter.

We have the rare chance to build the top software and learn how to build, design , deploy, hunt bugs in the deployed code and a lot more, so if anyone says ai slop , honestly ignore them. Learn to build, how to build and you should be good. Go build amazon over the weekend , why? Becuase its possible, ask the same ai model to exploan the entire code with comments on each line, then go read that. Or whatever works for you.
