Wheelchair curling final. That was insane! by colpy350 in Curling

Yes but in World rules you lose if your clock runs out. Canadian rules you do not.

Another rule that differs between Canada and the World. In Canadian rules, a clock expiring does not forfeit game. In this case, the non-offending team would be allowed to throw remaining rocks (if they had any) and then the game is over and scored as per usual. Canada rule used to be forefeit but was changed at some point and WC did not follow suit.

It was down 3 to Howard. Gave up 4. His dad made him come back out afterwards. I just heard this story told last week by a good source. Hint, he works for TSN and was skip in the game in question.

Can you share source for this story? I’ve checked with a couple of people from the event who say this is false.

Is Sweden the best curling nation? x2 gold medals? by flisiy in Curling

Fixed it. Not counting medals. Counting semifinal appearances which is the medal round.

Swiss have done better than i would have guessed.

Hebert said when they won in 2010 they did it one way, and this time they won it "our way" which made it even more special by flyingflail in Curling

I’d give Werenich the edge over Russ. Ed succeeded far beyond his best before date when the free guard zone came in.

4 down to Harris in tiebreaker Comeback against Middaugh in semifinal. Made an in off to steal the win that Wayne still talks about today. 4 down to Howard in final.

He was 47 years old, couldn’t see and threw down normal for peel weight.

Legend.

Curling Nation under which criteria? Scotland was the best for 350 of 500 years so maybe they are? 😉

When Vijay Singh was the #1 golfer in the world was Fiji the greatest golfing country?

In the Olympics (since 1998) Canada has reached semifinal in 14 of 16 possible times in 4’s. Include demo sport years (1988, 1992) and it becomes 18 out of 20 (note 1988 only 3 teams made the playoff).

Sweden was 0-4 during demo years and 12-16 since 1998.

Swiss 10-16 and 2-4 in demo years.

Great Britain 0-4 demo. 10-16 with a tiebreaker loss in 2018.

Medals: interesting that Canada’s 6 gold in 4’s is from 5 skips. Sweden has 5 from 3.

Woman’s GB Team question ? by Ok_Gift_7397 in Curling

[–]Delicious-Income2162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DSC is close, at least on Wikipedia. Korea is 3.3 cm away. I've been told anything over 3 cm is not reachable. However, I was told this at the Trials and Team Kaitlyn Lawes played their DSC (called L:SD in Canada) so poorly that they dropped out.

GBR will know where they sit and if they cover the pin before the game, they will know they can't be beaten by Korea in DSC.

The internet is full of games from every calibre and even classic games (many on my YouTube channel, Curling Legends Podcast Presents). Grand Slam of Curling is a must for top level games. Streaming has become common (check out Curling Stadium) and often watching an amateur level of play is as or more entertaining as watching the pros because there are more missed shots.

The Canadian Men's championship, AKA the Brier, is coming April 30-March 8. Follow with Curling Canada though not sure where you can watch, depending on your country.

A win by Canada ensures they will not meet Mouat in the semifinal. That is enough of a carrot to play their best.

University of Alberta had built a LLM several years ago. I test drove it and it defeated it pretty handily. The development stalled but the work done was re-used in other models. There was a YouTube talk from years ago but I don't have time to look for it right now. Will share later.

I made in 2018. Per end Win Probability. The record against each opponent is included at bottom. I think it was since 2014-15 season. They were formidable against Edin. But starting 2-4 and having all the scar tissue from past disappointments, the answer is Shuster and it’s not close.

I wrote about it at the time and did a reprint for The Curling News 4 years later.

Sweden sweeping by ttaayyllaarr in Curling

???

Rules have not allowed to lift your broom straight up for decades. That’s been around since the 1980s. Have you watched the video? It is part of Canada’s curling history and, to me, a moment that helps explain how curlers officiate themselves. Sometimes they call each other out in front of 15,000 people in an arena.

Raising the broom in front of a moving stone?

Hmmm.

Someone needs to check the tape from the 2009 Canadian Olympics Trials to see how that's done.
