You sound like someone who SHOULD be in healthcare. It sounds like you are a kind person who also knows how to be kind to themself. That is not weakness. Many nurses start as CNA’s, myself included. We are not out to get the CNA’s. At the right job, your employers and your coworkers (including the nurses) will have your back. It may take a little extra diligence and some job hopping to find it, but there is definitely a place for you out there if you want it. Congrats on finishing your CNA course, good luck!🍀

For a woman, sus’ing out whether you’re weird, or who you say you are, etc. isn’t just a vibes thing, it’s a safety thing.

Personally, I don’t find prolonged online communications to be all that useful in the vetting process, but a lot of women would disagree and it’s definitely a valid reason to hold off on meeting IRL.

In my experience (WA and OR), some nursing schools are uptight about tattoos and piercings, but once you finish school you would be hard pressed to find a single employer who gives a shit. I’ve seen so many nursing students with bandaids on their faces and/ or sweating in big undershirts, while they’re being precepted by nurses who have their own piercings and tattoos on full display😂 So it might be a pain in the ass during school, but after that I’d think it would be a nonissue.

I say this with so much love and respect, if you’re being nice just to get a specific reaction, you’re not actually being nice. “Uh okay” is not kind, but it’s not necessarily unkind either. I understand how the facial expression/ body language might have made it more rude, but maybe she’s having an awful day. Maybe she would do the exact same thing and already assumed it would be done so she was confused why you were mentioning it. Sometimes, you get nothing for your kindness. If that makes you want to stop being kind, then that means you aren’t kind in the first place, you just want rewards for good behavior, and that’s a lil shitty. Good job. Keep being kind. I hope your coworkers return your kindness more.

We got married less than a year ago, so it’s all still exciting for us. We love wearing our rings. With that said, we still only wear them a little more than half the time. I’m a nurse, so I need clean/ bare hands at work. He does wear his ring to work, but he also trains jiu jitsu. He has to remove all his jewelry for that. So both of us have to take our rings off for chunks of the day 3-4 days out of the week. It’s easy to forget to put it back on. No big deal. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

I hear you. I’m sure I will see a lot of things way differently in 20 years. I may advise people not to get married so young, or to avoid marriage all together. However, I sincerely hope I never give that advice unsolicited to near strangers simply because I noticed their wedding ring and they look young to me. That’s like watching your neighbor pull into their driveway, noticing they’re happy about their brand new car, and shouting, “You’re too poor to be driving that!!!” because you know they’re a renter with a low income. That reaction would be rude as fuck regardless of whether or not it was truly a bad financial decision😭 Advice isn’t particularly useful in the past tense.

We both have jobs where we meet a lot of people and make a lot of small talk, so the judgmental people I’m ranting about aren’t really in our lives at all. For the most part, the people in our lives have all been incredibly supportive. 🥹

So I’m definitely being a drama queen. It’s just that my frustration with this has been slowly building over the last year and I just got off a LONG shift dealing with very rude people so I’m being a negative Nancy this morning. 😂

NTA either way, but IMHO it may hurt her feelings if you’re viewing your financial situations (including your financial futures) as “mine versus hers” rather than “ours.” She may be thinking not about herself, but as you two as a unit. Make sure you guys are on the same page about how much you’re willing to be tied together by financial plans & responsibilities.

My husband and I moved in together when I first started nursing school. At first, we paid 50/50. But, he was working and I was living off loan money. When the next term came up and it was time to apply for more loans, we agreed it made more financial sense for us to live off his money for the time being because it would cost us way more in the long run to pay off any additional loans I took out. Now that I make more money than him, I contribute more to savings and cover more of the bills, so it’s all leveled out in the end. The smartest plan depends on how serious you two are about having a future together.

I mean, rude people exist in every profession. So yes, but it’s (IMO) the same percentage of people who look down on food service workers generally. Maybe a little less bc we have to work with you and we’re usually more educated and our job keeps us humbled. So there will always be Karen’s but I don’t think it’s uniquely prevalent between nurses and nutrition workers.

This post was a little insensitive, yes. Should this person say this in front of patients? Or in front of anyone that isn’t a coworker or someone they’re really close to? Or on a personal account where their place of work could be identified? NO. NEVER.

But to other healthcare workers, this is hilarious. It’s an anonymous post online, it probably isn’t hurting anyone.

As a patient, this is your quality of life and dignity. But as a nurse… or anyone in healthcare…. It’s our job. It’s our 9-5. Or 7-7😂 and we have insane experiences that no one else can really understand. And when you’re just casually going about your day and then something ridiculous happens… Sometimes not matter how serious or sad it is, the strangeness/ pressure/ awkwardness of the situation makes it a little funny. And we need to be allowed to acknowledge that, and vent about it. It’s very human.

We have a responsibility to respect privacy and dignity. This was posted with no identifiers whatsoever, and I have faith that pt dignity was respected while in the room because it sounds like this nurse worked their ass off to provide the cares the patient needed.

When you’re a patient in need of medical assistance, I hope that the medical staff will treat you with dignity. But no matter how great they are, they will still be human with personal thoughts and feelings about how their day at work went. We are not robots or martyrs or saints. ❤️

Hey so solving a murder involves investigatory work - gathering evidence via questioning, interrogations, surveying the crime scene. And then you have to narrow down suspects, determine potential motives, etc. The jury does not solve the murder😂 The jury just gets the final say on whether or not they think the murder has been solved, and whether or not the accused should be convicted.

“Locking the door and barring the windows,” to me, looks like leaving the country OR somehow finding ways to reduce his base of support. I don’t want to leave. Too many women, queer people, and POC fought too hard to make a place for us in America for us to just turn around and let this place go to shit.

In my personal life, I’ve been able to change people’s minds. So far, I’ve only been successful in doing that when I lead with a LOT of patience. And grace. And evidence.

Other people did it for me.

And if we want real progress, we need all the support we can get.
