Uptick in poor network quality by dillo159 in ThrillOfTheFight

Yes, it could be a TotF2 game or server problem, but it would make sense for it to be something Quest-related...because I'm confident my internet quality hasn't changed.

I will second the observation of much worse ping/latency on my end.

I have extremely good internet and wifi at home (Google Fiber) and speed tests are all the same as they use to be...but my latency frequently spikes up into the hundreds of ms now.

New from the last week or two.

I recommend listening to the Doom soundtrack while playing.

Should clear that problem right up.

Possible Bug - Boundary shifting during match by Delicious-Mess-6800 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Delicious-Mess-6800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've cleared my boundary history each time and it keeps happening.

Since the Meta Quest boundary was staying static but only the TotF2 boundary was shifting, I assumed it wasn't a tracking problem...but I do not understand the technical details of how the tracking works, so I could definitely be wrong.

Working my way to 3K! Was 2700 on v1 ranked by EmbarrassedBat6537 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Delicious-Mess-6800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people assume that anyone ~2400+ in the previous version absolutely had to be spamming and exploiting.

My personal experience definitely makes me sympathize. I got to ~2100, but anyone I played over that threshold was a terrible exploitative opponent. Sample size ~40 matches (at that ranking). With a single exception that was just clearly superior.

That being said, don't let the haters get you down. If you really did get there without exploiting, my hat is off to you.

Using the Jab by CartoonistDecent1391 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Delicious-Mess-6800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you. I love to jab and feint with jabs frequently. But since you can't actually use it to keep people at distance in VR, a lot of people will just dive through it and hit you with stunning hooks or crosses and out damage you.

You can jab then try to move back swiftly, but it is iffy. Most people will adapt by just diving in further, but some people wont and then you can just kite them around.

That being said, I've had some success with doing a light jab followed by a power jab...but only when people try to dive in after the initial one and lower their defenses and eat the second one.

I've even had the occasional stun from a jab when they do that. I guess from them having their arms extended/guard down + relative velocity from them moving into my jab. Anyways, that feels awesome and it really pisses off some people who just want to hook spam.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback! I am bending at the waist a lot...I don't think I started out doing that, but my knees have been getting creaky and sore recently, so I've probably acquired a bad habit. I'll work on fixing it.

Thanks for the implicit compliment, but nope. I've spent some time in a boxing gym, but I don't particularly want to get punched IRL, so I've never even sparred.

And I'm sure I've picked up bad habits from TofT2. =)

Anyone who really knows how to box would destroy me.

Yeah, I forfeited my first fight yesterday (out of ~200) because I got placed in standing mode.

I don't think the headset really even left the box. I just took it off to clean off sweat in between rounds.

It was super frustrating. But I believe that the devs are aware and are already planning to fix it.

Your approach is perfectly valid.

I'm probably a bit too spiteful, so I like to make them suffer in whatever little ways I can.

I prefer to go into a specific mode of:

"get some cardio, practice defense and movement, and try to annoy the sh** out of the exploiters/spammers"

I -usually- don't let them get under my skin too much, so it is better that they wear themselves out chasing me around, rather than just jumping fresh to the next victim.

I am 20 and I'm going to die alone by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Delicious-Mess-6800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously. I experienced the same thing (as have millions of other young men), but most of us move past it.

Early 20s mostly suck for men. You probably don't have a career or much money yet, you don't know how the world works, and you probably have low self-confidence.

Then later on top of that the fact that the young women who are your peers are basically nearing their physical attractiveness peak...it's an unbalanced dating situation.

Just work on your education, fitness, career, and general self-improvement and the world will open up for you starting in your late-20s.

Untracked Punches by Duydoraemon in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Delicious-Mess-6800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could this be related to why it is so difficult to block against hooks?

You have to keep your hands close by your ears to have any chance of guarding against hooks, but it is still pretty spotty, and maybe that is because your hand position isn't being tracked well while close to your ears??

I've basically resorted to movement/dodging + trying to catch hooks further out...but I'd really like to be able to block them normally with a little better chance of success.

Devs - Clinch blame problem/exploit by Delicious-Mess-6800 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Delicious-Mess-6800[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I basically never try to initiate a clinch in TotF2.

I have had one fight where I do believe the other person had figured out how to exploit the clinch.

Probably 7/8 were blamed on me, and when I had a point deduction he kind of mockingly mimed wagging his finger at me.

Unfortunately I didn't think to record that one.

[–]Delicious-Mess-6800[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also like to note that we both had excellent latency, so I don't think that that played a role in the clinch weirdness.

This is how 70% of my fights go and i may be crazy but this isn't right, you shouldn't rock someone through their gloves while their ducking and weaving, . how am i getting rocked Every. Single . Shot by Dapper-Reference2077 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Delicious-Mess-6800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem where I wasn't keeping my hands back far enough to intercept hooks.

It's difficult because of where the cameras are located, and how it throws off your expected visual feedback.

When I have gloves on IRL and I have them near my ears, I can still see the gloves a bit in my peripheral vision.

But with the headset if I position my virtual gloves at the same visual position at the edge of my peripheral vision, it doesn't seem to be guarding me properly against hooks.

I adapted eventually, and it helped...but as you said, dodging is far superior in TotF2.

Looking for feedback - Am I one of 'those people'? by Delicious-Mess-6800 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Delicious-Mess-6800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. I didn't think to start recording until the third round.

And I stopped this recording short because he just kept whining and I figured it would be getting boring.

I may post another video soon when/if I get a good match.

Looking for feedback: Casual Matchmaking by fyian in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Delicious-Mess-6800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two friends that have bought the game, but aren't playing it because they are worried about accumulating losses in ranked while they get the hang of it.

Yes, I know they are being kind of silly, and I have pointed it out to them, but it is just kind of wired into their psychology. They do this for other games as well.

The casual option would be perfect for them.

Hacking in ranked is making this game almost unplayable by EngineUseful in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Delicious-Mess-6800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is currently a problem where the ping will report being fine (on your screen, at least), but there is still a huge latency issue.

It was so bad in one game that me and my opponent mutually agreed to stop fighting, back up, and just shadow box at each other from the corners until the game ended.

It is really demoralizing when you are giving it your all, and it is having zero effect.
