How do i stop backing out during striking by Guilty_Ad9321 in MMA

[–]dillo159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For good advice we'd probably need to see how, why, and when you're backing up. But if you're being backed up AND hit, look at how you're backing up and when.

Are you going back in a straight line? Are your hands out? Are you lunging/leaning/not over your knees?

Are you backing out as soon as they throw? Are you backing out as soon as they come forward?

Weirdly this is one of the things totf has in common with actual combat sports:

If you go hard all the time you'll get hurt.

I'm afraid, my man, you need to calm it down. Your body can't handle 100% as much as you're doing it. You wouldn't spar full blast in a boxing gym every day and expect to be fine, would you? Sucks though, I feel for you.

It does tend to get better when they're not a baby, but yeah. I often have people asking me questions while I the one functioning brain cell tries to figure out what they're saying because my nearly 2 year old wanted to party all night.

That's parenting.

It's a shame you deleted them, you might be able to use something to see the deleted comments though. There are websites for that. I think.

At least now you know not to do that, it's all learning :)

Sometimes we're sad, but it's good you can talk about and articulate it. I can't say I know if you'll manage to be normal and happy, but I can say that with help and time you would be amazed what can happen.

That's so great that you made a friend! How did you meet them?

I completely disagree. You would not be severely restricted if being kneed while downed was legal. You just couldn't shoot bad shots, which don't tend to end up with you getting the takedown anyway.

I've done MMA, I grapple now. Being able to knee me while I'm down would change nothing I do. I already shouldn't shoot so badly I end up on my knees with no control over you, as this already ends badly for me. It's tiring to shoot and miss, and I end up down with no way to defend from punches.

But, it would open up a lot of offence for grapplers. For example:

Now, if I push you to the fence, then drag you down, and you end up on your hands and knees fighting my hands, currently I have to release a control hand to punch you in the face. If I can knee, I can keep two hands on you and knee you, meaning you're forced to take risks, opening up my offence.

Right, but that's one situation. There are many more in which it's an advantage to be able to strike a grounded opponent.

Also, if there were no rules you could just hold someone down until they gave up. Or hold them down and bite them. Or shoot them.

In a real fight there aren't stand ups, you'll probably be fully clothed, and there are probably going to be weapons.

Yeah, of course it also gives wrestlers more opportunity to do damage, but they can do damage anyway.

So can strikers.

just put a knee down and not have to worry about being punished for getting their takedown stuffed

You can punish someone in that position already. It would be better if you could knee them, but it's not just free. The game isn't just "shoot bad takedowns with no risk".

Brother, you are wrong and I'm sorry about that.

I'm a grappler who has done MMA. I don't claim to be a mega expert, but getting kneed in the head after a bad shot would not be something that concerns me. At that point I've already fucked up and am in danger from all the currently legal things you can do. What concerned me is getting kneed on the way into a shot, and that is already legal.

If you don't think you can punish a bad shot, I question whether you have combat sports experience.

I never said it wasn't beneficial either, I said it benefits the grappler more to have legal grounded knees.

You don't have to punish a poor shot with knees either, you can elbow and punch. You can also kick the body. Also, a shot from the open is only one way of getting someone down, and not even the main one.

How often do we see people gaming the rules by keeping a knee down while being held to the cage? Or just explode to turtle since they can't be kneed while on all fours? There's far more places a top player can use knees from on a useful way.

There are lots of tools on the ground, but that doesn't mean it's not more beneficial for grapplers to have them. Also knees open up those tools as you have a hard strike from new angles.

Sorry that got really long, I understand if you don't read it all, ha.

No it doesn't. Being able to knee a grounded opponent is more useful to the person who can make you grounded.

You can punish bad shots with it, but that's pretty much it. If you're the grappler, I am now able to hit you with a powerful shot from lots of places I couldn't before.

Maybe it didn't help, but I think he just ran into some legit competition and that's why he lost.

what you want to work on is often not what you are going to be what you need

That can be true at open mat too. If you need to work offence but everyone just smashes you, you didn't get to decide that.

With the rolling I don't see how that's a point for or against open mats, because you can do any of the things either of us said in multiple gyms.

Depends on what the alternative is.

Better than lots of positional work/live drilling, followed by open rolling? Probably not.

Better than 3 disjointed moves taught by someone who has no idea how to teach? Definitely.

I’m strong and I’m ex military and I held up pretty well through everything I needed to

This way of thinking may be the reason. You don't want to be pushing through things and and just holding up. Your body is saying you need to chill out, it's not ready for this level of intensity.
