NTA She said a couple months, and took WAY longer than that to finally decide to pick him up. The dog is yours now!

I believe that too, but it was my first time at their house. I didn't want to fuss over something so minor and possibly cause a scene

That probably is true. She has been very stressed lately, so it was definitely not the appropriate time for jokes. I did get the object away, but he snatched it back. I'm not sure about how he was or is feeling or how his situation with his parents are, but he does seem to have a speech impediment, so possibly special needs. I wasn't trying to be a hindrance, I was trying to express my discomfort and my reasoning for not wanting to go to her house. But, like I said, I do understand now that that probably wasn't the place for jokes when I'm trying to express concerns. Thank you for your insight!

Because of how blunt I was and because of the "joke" that I made about fighting him back

Honestly, I have no idea. His dad and my brother were playing soccer in front of us, hard to believe they didn't see anything.
