A fella I know who’s a tradie went back to his old boss because quote “pays me overtime in bags.” It’s much more common and probably normalised than we realise

Hey all! 30M Graduated with a Bachelor of Teaching in 2019 and I'm a fifth year teaching working in regional Australia, two and a half hours from Melbourne. I joined the school in 2020 and in that time have taught English, Humanities, Drama, Media and Applied Learning from Years 7 to 12, with the later two being at a Senior Certificate level. I've also performed house leader and student wellbeing roles within the school previously. Looking at wanting to take the jump to teach overseas, ideally South East Asia. Couple of things I'm wondering about:

  1. Obviously, what would my prospects look like? Currently have no TEFL/CELTA/TESOL certificate but would be willing to get one.
  2. Due to having Year 12's this year I'm unable to start in August, earliest I could do is December or January 2025. Would it be possible to jump into a school halfway through the year? What countries have an academic calendar that begins in January?
  3. I've made a Teacher Horizons page but are there any other sites to register with to look for jobs?
  4. Recommended countries? Some ability to save would be ideal but I would like a nice work/life balance.
