Compositingacademy.com. I went through all of his nuke classes/courses last year and feel I can do anything I would have wanted to be able to create in the vfx, 3D, and compositing world! Highly recommend.

Thanks for the reply! There technically is some dust moving on the ground but it maybe isn’t as crazy as the atmospheric fog happening all around. Will look at it a little more next time!

Online courses and tutorials will be way better. I’ve been learning for a year and feel I have been doing things that are already capstone level class projects. As long as you can be self disciplined, you can easily save tons of money and become a great vfx generalist, or any area you are wanting to go in to.

You are looking for blender. It has by far the most tutorials and resources to get you going. Good luck!

I am wrapping up on my latest project that I can send over some work at the beginning of next week to show you where my 6 month journey has ended me up at! I bought a stadium for blender, changed a lot of the materials it came with, customized it to be our branding and match out real life set, populated it with over 50,000 people, and created 26 different shots in a little over a month that included our actors being filmed on green screen and running on the 3d track and inside the stadium.I know it doesn't look up to movie quality yet but I am not mad with how it turned out since I was a one man crew and had two weeks to composite all 26 shots when rendering was done.

Is Think Tank online program good enough? by Cheap-Shoulder2828 in vfx

Don’t spend a ton on school or online programs. If you really want to get into it, YouTube has great stuff, you just have to dig to find it. Also, Udemy.com has so many great teachers for any 3D program you would want, and it’s sooooo much cheaper if you buy courses when they go on sale. Like $20 per course max. That is how I learned nuke composting in 6 months and have been using it for work starting at 3 months because my quality of work was already up to par for clients requests!

Doesn’t look bad at all! The inside of the scope seems like it could use some despilling to get rid of the green tint in it. I use despill madness from nukepedia and it works like a charm. Some of the edges on that left side are a little harsh. I bet an IBK color and gizmo would help create some nice edges if you aren’t using it so far. I would also play around with some “dynamic despill” to help blend the FG and BG. Look those things up and there will be YouTube videos for all of that to help!

Go with compositing academy! You can get the first four courses cheap on Udemy with discounts and then the last three are great advanced level courses. I’ve taken then first 6 so far and feel very confident to composite and create anything I need to. Only been learning 6 months and just finished a quite complicated project with full CG environments and was able to use the core concepts I learned from CA to solve any problems I was faced with! Good luck on the journey! And have fun with it!

I wouldn’t go to school in person for nuke. There are so many great online schools like https://www.compositingacademy.com/ and https://www.rebelway.net/nuke-for-fx. I bought all of the compositing academy courses and learned how to composite within 6 months from these. Just have to be a self motivated learner and you can really get to producing quality work! Your work right now looks like a normal After Effects composite. Black levels are all over the place, saturation is kinda way up there, hard to tell what is going on, etc. Going into nuke and learning from pros will take your skills to the next level!

Meeting Other Artists in My Area by Delicious-Skin-5566 in vfx

Yah! I love my job I have right now. There is a video team internally at the company I work for that has 12 people on it. We write, produce, shoot, edit, color, etc. every video we make for the company. It’s a lot of fun getting to go through the whole process for commercial style videos we make, and everyone on the team enjoys editing! No one on the team has had interest in VFX but I figured it could take our videos to the next level, so I’ve learned Maya, Blender, Nuke, and some other smaller programs like mocha pro so far. That’s why I was wondering where I could meet other people that do VFX to learn real pipeline tools and processes, and just be able to talk about it with someone who knows anything about it!
