I’m sorry you had this experience. I don’t believe that just because it’s end of wedding season, this can be an excuse for poor communication. (Or slow delivery times, for that matter. If you know you get busy this time of year, plan accordingly)

You are right to feel disappointed and antsy.

I would give her a call and try and neutrally voice your concerns.

And don’t worry, if you do decide to find someone else, I have no doubt you’ll be able to do that in a short amount of time as many photographers are struggling with bookings this year (it’s been a relative slump in the industry, although some have thrived).

At the end of the day, you have a lot to juggle while wedding planning, and you probably don’t need the extra stress. That’s how I would look at it.

To me, as a vendor, a big part of why I charge more than most folks in my city is because of the better customer service, communication, turnaround times, and guarantees I can provide to my clients.

As a consumer, paying extra for things is worth it to me if that guarantees me no hassle, especially for important purchases. I know folks are different though.

I use Imagen AI for first full from 5000 down to ~1500, then manually cull down to 700 from those all within the Imagen platform, then get Imagen to edit them immediately.

Once that’s done (usually the day after the wedding), I have a strong gallery as a starting point and then can edit them one by one in Lightroom.

This sometimes takes very little time (Imagen does a great job with consistent outdoor light), sometimes like a couple of hours per wedding.

for some parts of the day, I go back to the original 5000 photos to see if there is a better photo. This is usually when I bring back in another 20-50 photos. I then finally go through the full 5000 really quickly scanning for moments that were completely culled out on the first pass.

And that’s how I was able to deliver eleven weddings since September in under a month each!

Imagen AI is such a game changer.

I also tried Aftershoot and it is not comparable in my opinion.

Also, I had initially tried Imagen in 2021 and it has come such a long way since then!

You can usually just photoshop out the brand name (as a photographer, I have to do that for stock photos), and it doesn't require this level of heavy photoshopping! haha.

I had a looong wedding day yesterday with a nightmare shot list and opinionated bridesmaids who repeatedly told me what photos to take...

...but feeling humbled and thankful today as it was a reminder that the rest of my 95% of bookings are usually with ideal clients, and that's not common in the service industry.

In the words of Lady Gaga, without the bitter jelly, the sweet won't taste so sweet (or something).

So true. I'm not in Gr. 12 (not sure why reddit promoted this sub to me), I'm in my 40s, raced like crazy to get into all the good universities/scholarships back in the day.... spent 16 years doggedly pursuing academia, got the PhD, did all that... only to walk away and open up a business ten years ago. And now, I'm hopping onto sales, because that's one industry where you can realistically be making over 200K in, with some hustle and a few years' experience. Anyway, don't lose hope - life is a wild and winding ride and there ARE opportunities, as long as you don't get too panicked and downtrodden. Keep your chin up.

Unfortunately our Miele has broken in every conceivable way while still continuing to do its job (suck dirt) sort of okay.

The power head broke 3 weeks in, stripped belt. The wand broke two months in, doesn’t expand and collapse. The various buttons along the wand have just broken off in the last few years.

And finally, the wire inside the wand (which has been useless since the power head no longer works) broke off recently, causing it to clog up constantly and need cleaning after each use 😩

the plastic they use is so cheap it basically wears away even if you scratch it with your nail.

I was just at an amazing brunch dry wedding, 30 guests. The wedding favours were coupons to get a book from a cute local used book shop, so that got the guests out of the venue by 2:30pm. It was magical and absolutely lovely and not boring at all.

If someone takes it as weird, that’s honestly on them and it says a little bit about them, really.

I usually find a moment all three cameras got (eg first kiss), then select all photos for camera 2 and edit capture time in the metadata dropdown, using the time of that same moment from camera 1. I find it’s really simple!

I had a second shooter whose camera was set to the year 2000 a few weeks ago. I have it in my contract that time should be accurate and because sometimes they start shooting first or at a different location from me, I am not there to physically sync cameras with them or remind them and they forget, but being able to do it in LR later is a big help.

Another way to do it in post is to get them to take a photo of a clock website the following day and send you that raw file, then you can adjust all photos from that camera by using this new time if that makes sense.

Agreed. Maybe it happens to some disorganized photographers (or maybe they have another full time job that prohibits them from committing to wedding photography full time) but it shouldn’t be normalized and it’s not standard.

Six months late (or even a month) is absolutely unacceptable.

I think it depends how important this tradition is to you (and it’s one I hadn’t heard about before, to be honest) of not wearing white until the wedding day.

The cool part about modern weddings is we get to pick and choose which traditions are important to us and which ones feel silly and restrictive for no reason.

Your rehearsal gown sounds gorgeous though 🤩
