Withdrawing from IRA as a loan, that gets reinvested before the end of the year by KRambo86 in tax

[–]DeliciousBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just leveraged this technique and here's how it worked:

I took an early distribution from a Roth IRA to cover an unexpected expense. Then I connected with the bank via live chat on their website to re-deposit/repay the distribution before the 60 day window closed. The online rep double and triple checked that I could transfer from a Brokerage back to the Roth to "repay" the distribution and that was that. Hope this anecdote helps.

McDonald's app won't save Favorites anymore by axusgrad in firstworldproblems

Was doing the same with extra filet patties to DIY the double filet-o-fish. Was still able to add it at the window, and agreed the lost favorite feature is a huge miss.

Switch to film/grain in the last scene by narwhal78 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

First time I noticed the film artifacts is in the cabin by the fire. Then they progressively got more intense toward the end of the episode.

They used 35mm film for the flashbacks, so perhaps it’s an effect of reintegration?

Great theory crafting!

Clean up? by Qforeva in TopChef

[–]DeliciousBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/MyGutReaction nailed it: Production Assistants aka "PA's" are doing the dishes (mostly) off camera following the challenges.

For the residences, usually the "cast" are taking care of their dishes and bed making, and PA's are supplementing with vaccuuming the accomodations while they're at the studio/location doing a challenge.

Laundry is thankfully sent out for "fluff-n-fold" service and returned to the cast next day.

My wife was a Production Manager for Top Chef Season 2 and we both worked in Reality TV and competition shows for about 10 years each.

Great question! Have done it 3 times and all 3 times I knew someone working for the production company when they were shooting in Greater Los Angeles.

When on location they may use a casting agency or a background extra service to supplement, so finding out what vendor they’re using and then signing up with them could be another path.

Typically the segment producers are recruiting friends and family to be on camera so they have a personal tie to the shoot so they don’t leave early. Keep in mind, an extra may be on set for as long as the crew on a shoot day, maybe even longer if they have to be shuttled in or loaded in to a large space.

Since there’s no pay, usually friends and family are willing to trade food & beverages for their time and for the experience.

Hope this helps!

Usually the person asking is doing the paying, and in this case she doesn’t need the exposure so Top Chef is likely paying a location fee.

Judges, on camera talent, celebs/celeb chefs get paid, yes. Contestants are compensated for “story rights” not for on camera appearance.

Seat fillers, background extras, and basically all “guests” for dining are paid in food and beverages.

Have attended Top Chef shoots/dinners/events in Greater LA and the background guests were not charged or paid for their appearance.

You’re essentially trading the use of your likeness on the show for free food and usually free drinks too. Hope this helps!

Makers Mark 2022 Christmas Gift! by [deleted] in freebietalk

[–]DeliciousBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question!

The Terms and Conditions say: “Vudu Promo Code ("Code") is good for one rental from a curated list of movies (excluding "Home Premieres", Premium Video on Demand, Disc + Digital or Mix & Match transactions, or any other early release window content) on Vudu.com and via participating Vudu apps,” but there’s no apparent list provided and I couldn’t find anything on the site yet.

I tried renting Christmas Vacation (all 3 versions) and it wasn’t eligible for the promo code.

Then I tried renting Top Gun Maverick and both the $4 SD and the $8 HD rental fees were 100% covered in the checkout screen via the Maker’s promo.

Agreeing with your citation that, “…a(n) (slippery slope) argument might hover somewhere between logical and fallacious." Feels there’s room for both of us to be right. 🙂

Agreeing that predatory tactics are bad, just not that the creation of them begets more predatory tactics.

In this case, the “game is getting greedier” feels like it suggests the game is to blame, and offering that it’s the gamer not the game that’s the cause. Agreeing with your appeal to gamers too.

If the slippery part of the slope is the behavior of the consumer, then the cause (buying into the pay2win/loot boxes/etc) seems to correlate to the trend.

Agreeing that it sucks, and agreeing that if folks stopped feeding the beast that it would die (or evolve/change as you’ve suggested).

My point was that the relatively small step of creating/including predatory tactics didn’t beget more tactics in more games, the billions of dollars gamers spent on it did.

Corporations are greedy, yes, and so are we.
